"The community center in the block of flats is actually a house of prayer, a mosque, which I presented in previous recordings," says Kostrzyński. According to him, the assurances of the service of the premises "were not true", and the residents of the housing estate learn about the prayers held there "from the Internet".
The National Movement has announced a picket at 1 Dworska Street for 6 July. During the assembly, the activists want to conduct a survey among residents about the functioning of this place.
The City: Attempts to Foment Fears
Ewelina Pytel, the Mayor of Krakow's plenipotentiary for equality policy, reacts to these actions. In its statement, it writes that once again we are dealing with attempts to "artificially fuel fears and incite conflicts on religious and cultural grounds".
In her opinion, this time the Muslim community, which gathers for prayer in a rented apartment in the Podwawelski housing estate, has become the object of attacks.
Pytel points out that bystanders take photos and videos of people praying and then use them to instill fear on social media and beyond. It appeals for caution towards such messages and the use of reliable sources of information.
Announcement of a meeting with residents
The plenipotentiary announces that in the near future she will organize an open meeting for residents with representatives of Krakow's Muslim community. The goal is to talk and clarify doubts.

The case of the activity carried out in the premises of the Al-Fajr Foundation at Dworska Street in the Podwawelski housing estate in Krakow is coming back. The National Movement published a video of men praying inside the room and an argument that took place outside the door. "It was supposed to be a center of Muslim culture, not a place of prayer" - say the nationalists. The religious function (also) was not a secret, and the whole situation is an illustration of increasing and more dangerous social tensions. Which, unfortunately, are fueled by politicians themselves.
Muslims in Krakow
This place in the Podwawelski district became famous in February this year. Then the news broke that in one of the blocks of flats the Muslim community in Krakow wants to create a new meeting and prayer place for herself. There were protests by residents, the matter became political. The center was established, it works.
Was his religious function a secret? No. "In addition to religious meetings, the venue is also to host charity activities, integration initiatives, and educational activities" - we wrote in February.
Now the topic is again publicized by activists of the Krakow National Movement: Michał Kostrzyński and Justyna Sak, who also introduces herself as a resident of the Podwawelskie housing estate. The meeting place for Muslims is called an "illegal mosque" in correspondence. They publish recordings in which men can be seen praying.

Today I am publishing some of the recordings from 1 Dworska Street" - wrote Michał Kostrzyński on FB.

The Islamic Cultural Centre has been operating in Krakow for years
In Krakow, the Islamic Cultural Center has been operating since 2011 in a tenement house on Sobieskiego Street. Most recently, in March 2026, it invited to prayer in the Hall of the 100th Anniversary of Cracovia at Focha Avenue. And in March 2025, for prayer in the Com-Com Zone hall at Ptaszyckiego Street. The Centre's profile is followed by 4.4 thousand people.
The case of the Podwawelski housing estate differs in that the Centre operates in a tenement house and hardly anyone knows about it, and large events associating Muslims are rarely held. In Podwawelski, the place of prayer is a large place on the ground floor in the middle of a heavily populated housing estate.
We are collecting more information, we have sent questions to the city about the function of the facility. We will come back to the matter.
Today, new questions arise. If the place at Dworska Street is only a space for integration, education and culture, why are there regular prayers with the participation of many people? If, on the other hand, there is a regular place of prayer "mosque", why have the inhabitants not received clear, official and verifiable information?
We do not question the right to religious freedom. However, we ask about transparency, compliance of the way the premises are used with its purpose, safety, nuisance for neighbors and the right of residents to know about what actually functions in their immediate vicinity. Residents of the estate raise concerns about the change in the nature of their immediate surroundings. In the correspondence addressed to those monitoring the case, there are questions about whether the housing estate will not begin to experience problems known from some cities in Western Europe, where similar processes have aroused social tensions. There are also concerns about the comfort of life, safety and the potential impact on the attractiveness of the property. In our opinion, the matter requires an urgent reaction from the Krakow City Hall, the building manager and the owner of the premises. Public reassuring of residents cannot replace the facts presented by residents on recordings."
Back in February, we contacted representatives of Al-Fajr. They assured that they care about peaceful coexistence with the local community, and the place they create is to be "open and safe".
