JUSTICE LEAGUE DETROIT

Image courtesy DC (Omnibus Cover Art)

This is my personal favourite rendition of the JL to currently exist (second only to Wonder Woman's JLA in the early 90s).

I've always been in support of unorthodox (or perhaps "unexpected" is more appropriate) matchups in blockbuster superteams of this high a Calibur. The fact that we have Arthur in a position of leadership is in direct violation of the whole *"*Fishy Talk Dude is a Joke" meme that The Boys went berserk on with the Deep. J'onn and Zatanna's relationship was fun (I still ship them), and everyone else is extremely well written and surprisingly relevant. Even in the political sphere, this group is relevant, especially when the writers made the bold decision to have one of their first ventures being rescuing Superman, Wonder Woman, and Barry Allen from the Soviet Union. I don't seem to recall the mainstream continuity discussing the Cold War all that much (this was reserved for Frank Miller's Batman: Hunt the Dark Knight).

I ought to also point out that ALL of this team up becoming prominent figures in The CW's Arrowverse, which is no coincidence since the Bronze Age gave the narratives that were utilized for most of the series (plural). Not certain how this will work out in James Gunn's DC Universe, since the Vibe is just a mural in the Hall of Justice in James Gunn's SUPERMAN, but one can see that some of the older looks will make a comeback.

AQUAMAN/GREEN ARROW: NOT JUST DEEP TARGETS

Image courtesy DC (DC UNIVERSE REBIRTH 2017/DC SHOWCASE 2010)

IK we had a crossover with these two around three years ago titled Aquaman/Green Arrow: Deep Target, which was phenomenally written and really fun; but the fact that we never had them team up in the mainstream prior to that one Season 02 episode of Batman: The Brave & The Bold still irritates me. At this point, unless there's another continuity reboot coming or James Gunn incorporates it OR BOTH (cause the plan is for his universe to become the mainstream), IDK if we'll get another team-up with these two.

If I were involved with DC back when the Rebirth was still ongoing, I would have had the two of them team-up almost indefinitely and combine their runs till the continuity reset. A hot take?? Might be.....let me know

Current Run

Hello, I know everyone is different but I was reading the current Aquaman run but i just wasn't loving it so dropped it around issue 10.

What are people's thoughts?

If you didn't like it at first did it get better for you?

I dropped it as I liked the upgrade Aquaman got but the story line with THE BLUE/alternate ocean thing was not for me. I wanted to explore Atlantis a little more and see him exist in the main world.

Side note - I am no expert on Aquaman, I read Geoff Johns run, watch Brave and The Bold, Young justice when I was young and recently read Aquaman Andromeda. I like the character most in Johns run or when he is first a king of Atlantis, superhero second feel like it makes him stand out more compared to others heros.

EDIT - THANK YOU. People gave some really good insight and advice on a post I thought might get 2 or 3 replies with 2 sentences at best. Everyone seems genuinely passionate to talk about this character. Every fandom has its toxic parts but seems like a really healthy fandom to me so far.

The way writers write Aquaman in the justice league is frustating.

He is most of the time in the JL seven but it feels like he’s included to fill the roster rather than because of something else. Even though he is a founding member, he almost never gets the spotlight. Most of the time Aquaman feels like he’s just present rather than actively shaping in the outcomes of the story.

Like he is just the water guy and nothing else. Even his power as king of the Sea feels like something irrelevant, not a major factor in solving the problem and not even used in a way that feels cool or impactful in the story.

And I can write more about how he is the first to be replaced or just sometimes dissapears but I'm going to keep it short.

As a Aquaman reading Justice league comics is awful.

(Like of course there are exception like Jl: Obsidian age and the Atlantis invasion, but I am talking about the regular jl mission.)

Still far from the end..

So far we've seen a lot of the prophecy that Arion mentioned come to pass, and one of the things said in multiple places alludes to Aquaman saving the universe. Initially it could be looked at as a throwaway/generic statement, but as he says the Blue wants to use him to counter the Omega which I find interesting as I read more because it seems that the Blue is possibly the direct opposite of the Omega. Everyone in the tournament has a vision that seems to be one of Doom, so much so that both King Shark and Jarro have sworn fealty and loyalty to Emperor Aquaman in order to see his vision of what needs to happen come to pass. While the main DC universe thinks this is over and they are waiting for Darkseid to make his move, what they don't know is that Darkseid has the same game going on throughout the Multiverse and while Time Trapper has given Superman all of his Alpha Energy the Energy looks eerily like The Blue.

Emperor Aquaman #17

What are your thoughts on this latest issue? Having Starro becoming a part of Emperor Aquaman shows that the Blue is a Universal Power that seems to have no limits. I like how Jeremy is dropping hints of what he can do, and with the visions, show that he hasn't even scratched the surface of what he's capable of.

They keep saying that Aquaman will save the universe and I for one cannot wait to see exactly how he does it. Kind of curious what the Omega symbol on Starro means... Jeremy is known for dropping nuggets that get answered much later down the road and I'm curious if this means anything or not.

Could Aquaman control Leviathan if it existed?

hey guys

Man, I got really curious to know the answer to that question because if Aquaman could control it, his power level would increase a lot. I think he could even go toe-to-toe with Superman.

And it could be Aquaman from both the movies and the comics, just to be clear :)

Do you think there's connection between the Thule in the current series and the Thule from the New 52?

"Thule" is the name of Mera's grandfather in the current series. But that name was also used for the ancient Atlantean nation from the New 52 Exiled storyline. Is this Coincidence? An Easter egg? Meaningful connection?
