Hello! Not trying to get a translation just inquiring. I’m trying to get a nameplate of my name made. While I know my name in standard arabic fonts I searched calligraphy of it on Pinterest and found a slide of these. I want to know if it’s legible? Also if there are any that are illegible.

Obviously not saying my name to see if you guys can read this in your own

How old would you guess I am based off my wall of calligraphy

TRYNNA make my desk area look more traditional and grown up instead of still experimental , like everything should have an order , stuff should be in frames and maybe not so many themes at once idk idk what to fix to make it look more professional, also like my calligraphy area is in the female living room of the house for context

Edit: you might have seen a similar photo , but I added stuff and also I'm deleting Reddit so I just wanted ask one more question be4 I did , I'm deleting it because ik no one asked but asoon as I got it like for eg that blue circle frame I did last night , like nothing is perfect and I'm struggling to get perfect strokes so yeah after this probs after school or hifz tmrw imma take down the post

Native Urdu speakers: looking for a poetic bracelet engraving for a close friend

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping you can help me choose (or create) a short Urdu inscription for an engraved bracelet.

The bracelet is a birthday gift for a close female friend who has been learning Urdu because it’s part of her family heritage. I wanted the engraving to reflect something meaningful to her, rather than simply translating an English phrase.

The feeling I’m trying to capture is that she’s someone whose kindness and presence make the people around her feel brighter and more themselves.

Some ideas I’ve had in English are:

  • “Where you are, there is light.”
  • “You bring light.”
  • “May you always remain a light.”
  • “Keep spreading light.”

I’m not looking for a literal translation. I’d much rather it be something that sounds natural, poetic, and culturally meaningful to a native Urdu speaker.

If there are existing sayings, lines of poetry, blessings, or expressions that capture this feeling better than my ideas, I’d genuinely love to hear them.

The engraving will be quite short, so ideally no more than a sentence.

Thank you so much for any suggestions.

Need help identifying calligraphic style and translating red rubrication marks on this old manuscript page

"Hi! I have this page from an old manuscript bought in Istanbul in 1994. It features a miniature with elephants and horses, and the text has several red rubrication marks: vertical V/R-shaped signs between letters, a long J-shaped mark, and straight red lines over the black ink. Could anyone help me identify the calligraphic style (Nasta'liq?) or translate these specific red notations?"

Arabic calligraphy of a word for a tattoo

Hello dear people of Reddit!

Ive been thinking of getting a tattoo on my lower back and have had this idea of getting my nickname: عسولة in a fancy script or calligraphy style (such as the picture). Are there any skilled arabs that can help me with this? Shokran habibi

The word: عسولة

The tattoo: Will have to be horizontal, so the wider/stretched, the better.

Big fan of: Naskh, Diwani, Thuluth (Free to be creative!)

Tattoo Commission: "I suffered, I learned, I changed".

I was hoping someone could help me out with my next tattoo!

I'm looking to get a relatively small quote behind my ear that reads "I suffered, I learned, I changed" in Arabic.

I found it surprisingly hard to find Palestinian/Arabic speaking artists in St. Louis and was very excited to find this sub! I think it'd be much more genuine to be able to confidently know that my tattoo reads true and was also wondering if anyone has any better scripts than what's plastered all over Google. Including reference photo of the original quote I saw (if it's not accurate PLEASE correct 🙏🏾). I was thinking of it reading vertically behind my right ear.

If this is something you'd like to do please let me know your pricing, payment options, and timeline for getting me the design. Thanks so much!

Reading and understanding the Thuluth script: a six-week online course this summer (live and recorded)

This summer I'm running the first cohort of an online course on reading and understanding Thuluth, the script behind so many mosque inscriptions and museum panels.

The focus is not on turning you into a calligrapher in six weeks. It won't, and I won't pretend otherwise. It's on learning to actually read this art: to recognise the script, place a work by style and period, and follow how a panel is composed. Practising the forms with a reed pen is welcome but optional.

Details:

  • Six weekly live sessions, all recorded, with lifetime access
  • Open to all levels, no Arabic required
  • 18 July to 22 August 2026, taught in English

More information and enrollment: https://thuluthfoundations.art

Happy to answer any questions in the comments. Mods, if this isn't allowed here, please feel free to remove it.
