I am a software engineer from Dhaka with 5+ years of experience, mostly in backend and full-stack development. My stack includes Python, FastAPI, Reactjs, Nextjs, PostgreSQL. Secondary Stack - PHP, Laravel, Livewire, Vue, MySQL.

I've worked on enterprise SaaS platforms, production AI chatbots, IoT systems, workforce management software, and robotics projects. In university life, i lead multiple technical teams land world final.

I love handling clients, lead teams. I love to own stuff. I am committed and dedicated to the project, even i forget to eat.

I've been applying through LinkedIn, Wellfound, YC Work at a Startup, Himalayas, We Work Remotely, FlexJobs, and company career pages. Around 100-120 targeted applications so far, barely any responses. I have curated my resume, GitHub, portfolio, and detailed project case studies.

Looking for remote backend, full-stack, platform, or AI engineering roles, ideally around $1k–$1

Tk/month. Open to startups and smaller teams too.

Am I looking in the wrong places? Is being based in South Asia a major disadvantage? Should I start reaching out to founders directly? Would really appreciate advice from anyone who's managed to land an international remote role.

1. Would you use something like this, or do you already use a phone timer or Forest?

I've often heard that pursuing a PhD in the USA, particularly in STEM, can be mentally, physically, and financially demanding, with years of research, uncertainty, and isolation. But how worthwhile is it in the long run?

What career opportunities and financial prospects does a STEM PhD actually offer, both in academia and industry? Does the long-term payoff justify the sacrifices?

More importantly, would you leave behind a decent, relatively comfortable life in Bangladesh, including a stable family business, to start over in North America for a PhD? Would you consider it a worthwhile investment in your future, or would you rather build on what you already have?

I'd love to hear honest perspectives, especially from current PhD students and graduates from Bangladesh. Thank you!

Hey guys, I need some suggestions.

I'm looking for a good AI coding tool for daily development, but I don't really want to spend a lot on subscriptions every month.

I've been looking at Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Google Antigravity, and a few other tools. They all seem good, but I'm curious which one is actually worth the money if you use AI heavily for coding.

I mostly work with React Native, Expo, Next.js, Node.js/NestJS, and sometimes Python. I want something that can understand an existing project, work across multiple files, fix bugs, refactor code, and handle bigger tasks without me having to explain everything repeatedly.

One thing I'm especially curious about: I've heard people mention getting access to tools like Antigravity through third-party providers for around 100 takaper month. I have no idea how that works or where people get these subscriptions.

If anyone is using these cheap alternatives, I'd love to know:

• Where do you get them, and how do you set them up?
• Are they actually usable for daily development, or do they come with annoying limits?
• Are they shared accounts, API-based services, or something else?
• Is there any risk of losing access or exposing your code?
• If you don't use these services, what's the best affordable alternative?

I'm not necessarily looking for the absolute best AI model. I just want something that can handle real projects and give me the most value for my money.

Free options, official subscriptions, third-party providers, open-source tools — I'm open to anything as long as it actually works.

Please share your actual experience if you've tried a few of these. Especially interested in what you're paying per month, how much you can use it before hitting limits, and which tool you'd personally stick with on a tight budget.

Why do companies like GP, Banglalink, and bKash etc hire so many software engineers through third-party companies like Vivasoft, Miaki, Exabyting, and others instead of hiring them directly?

I understand that direct hiring comes with long-term commitments, benefits, and other liabilities. But from an engineer's perspective, this model feels frustrating.

For example, suppose GP pays a vendor 100K BDT per month for one engineer, but the engineer receives only 60K. The remaining 40K goes to the vendor. Obviously, the vendor has operating costs, but the gap still feels huge.

The client gets the engineer's skills, the engineer does the actual technical work, yet a significant portion of the budget goes to the intermediary. Meanwhile, the engineer may earn much less than what the client is willing to spend on that resource.

What frustrates me most is that this model seems to have become normal in our industry. Engineers do the work, but third-party companies take a substantial cut, while the people actually building the products may struggle to get compensation that reflects their value.

Outsourcing itself isn't the problem, but this resource-based hiring model makes it feel like engineers are being treated more as billable resources than as people building long-term careers. It's frustrating to see how much value can be created by an engineer while so much of the budget never reaches them.

I recently joined a company as a Senior Software Engineer after getting fired on July. I was desperate, had family and school going kid and other baggage's as well.

I have over 11 years of native android application development mostly in Java and Kotlin.

So upon joining I heard the whole android team has resigned and they are on notice period. So the HR and COO called, buttered my up and said that I had to be in the lead position (hiring is on the way to no i wont be leading me 😄)

But my salary remained out of the questions. Its like 2 responsibilities with 1 salary.

What should be my approach towards this situation? I am on probation period rn.

Been working on this for a while and thought I'd finally share it here.

I made a map that collects crime reports from newspapers like Prothom Alo, daily star, Bangla Tribube and a few others, & figures out which thana they happened in and puts them all in one place.

You can tap on any thana and see what reported there over the last 250days. Every report also links back to the original article.

Fewer reports in an area doesn't mean it's safer. As newspapers don't cover everything, some areas obviously get more coverage than others.

Made this because I wanted to see what's happening around my area.

Would love to know what you guys think or what else would actually be useful to add.
