Traveling to Azerbaijan alone

I'm thinking of going to Azerbaijan in the fall or winter, I hate hot weather, that's why I skip summer. I'm from Türkiye and I'm a woman. I just want to experience a different place on my own; I don't really have much of a plan beyond a few key locations within the city. I'm thinking of staying for a week or ten days. I'm not sure if a hotel or an airbnb would be better. I wanted to get some opinions on whether I might have difficulty traveling alone to places far from the city center or to see more natural sights.

Solo trip to Baku

Hey guys, I'm heading to Baku for 5 nights, traveling solo, no agency nothing just winging it. It's my first time in Azerbaijan so I have a few questions if anyone can help.

First, where should I book my hotel? Like which area/neighborhood makes the most sense to be based in as a first timer?

Also I really want to explore the city properly, less tourist trap more actual culture. So if anyone has good spots, hidden gems, local places worth visiting I'm all ears.

Are there any other cities or villages nearby worth doing as a day trip? I've seen a few names pop up but not sure what's actually worth the trip vs just hype.

And last thing, any good pubs or bars where I can catch the World Cup? Just need a decent spot with a screen and some atmosphere, nothing fancy.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Ashura in Baku

Salam guys.

Where can we see the gatherings and the ceremonies during Ashura this week in Baku? Is it ok for locals that there would be tourists around? We wouldn't want to be around if it is considered inappropriate.

Thanks.
