Savers haul.
All this was $22. My first blue note record in the wild!

All this was $22. My first blue note record in the wild!
Approx 40 pieces. There was some I wanted but the guy wouldn't split em up so I had to take the lot. Believe me, there's some crap in here, including early '70s budget comps 'reprocessed for stereo'. I wish they wouldn't do that.
I was laughing at the records as I went through them; "please don't make me take all these mister". But he stood firm, as was his right. I shouldn't dwell on the crap as some of this is ok.
For instance - Black Uhuru on D-Roy, Maytals, two early Trojan comps, Militant Barry (probably the best named toaster in reggae history. One song is about Sid Vicious 'Pistol Boy').
Gladiators, Aggrovators, Jacob Miller, Mikey Dread, Prince Buster and a bunch of things I don't know much about (Prince Mohammed also recorded as a singer under the name George Nooks apparently).
Anyway, I had a good natured negotiation with the seller and told him he was very lucky to get £20 the lot. He told me he wasn't a reggae fan ("apart from UB40") and that the records came out of a condemned building he was demolishing.
My first and only copy. 75 cents at an estate sale. VG-
Knew id find a few but did really well. Sorry for the crap photos phone was being weird
XTC is my favorite band ever, so I was ecstatic to see this!
Priced at $2.49 but I had $1 in points. Vinyl is gorgeous.
I go to all sorts of flea markets and used vinyl stores and buy it for almost pennies in order to make such mixes, they don’t turn out perfect, but they don’t have to be perfect, everything is real.
I’m vaguely familiar with several of these artists (mostly by reputation) but haven’t ever gotten too far into the deep end with jazz. Any diamonds in the rough here? $1 each from my neighborhood shop. Jackets are beat up but the records themselves are in solid shape…
Here’s what I got at the small WFMU record fair in Jersey city last Saturday let me know if I got anything good
The Pete Rodriguez is a little worse for wear with a constant crackle. Hopefully a run through the spin clean takes care of a little bit but I’m not super hopeful. Either way, I had to take a chance and couldn’t pass it up. Original mono press for $3. It is a survivor and deserves another spin or 10.
I Spent $77 on a birthday gift for myself of a USB Microscope (Mine is made by Pluggable but do your own research)
I got it so i could look at my bargain bin find First Pressing 1979 Blue Wave Records pressing of "Uncut" by the powder blues which had a locked groove in the middle of "Buzzard Luck"
I was able to use the microscope to find where the offending scratch was and with some light prodding massage the grooves back into shape with a sewing pin.
I don't reccommend doing this on records you can't afford to re hunt down or that you really care about but in my case I turned a locked groove into a minor pop and now have an album that plays all the way through.
The special part about this pressing is it has 10 tracks on it "Gimme Some Lovin'" which is track 5 on side 2 is Omitted from all future pressings both on Blue Wave and on RCA
I have the RCA version so really I on'ly had to care that "Gimme Some Lovin'" played properly on here which it did. I still wanted to see if I could fix it.
The microscope has now fixed for me several minor skips and one more locked groove in some bargain bin stuff I have. The only time I gave up is my 45 of "Had A Dream (Sleeping with the Enemy)" by Rodger hodgson which has a locked groove I just can't seem to fix and sounds horrible otherwise and since its super common and I also own the album it comes from I'm just going to buy the next copy of it I see in the wild and replace the one I have.
All in very nice condition, Always nice to find JC!
Dropped off some stuff at a local thrift store and went in just to check, immediately found the Kiss record so I went through everything and found some really cool stuff. Been looking for Faces for years.
And then today I found out that this is the "No Kissin Time" pressing of Kiss to make it even better!
Literally 2 minutes after I sat down another guy started going thru everything after me, just got there in time.
I also copped a pair of Technics SB-CR55 speakers for $10 that sound incredible.
