The Only Girl on an 89-Member Team Takes Home the Dirt of Koshien

Ran Nakano is the only girl among the 89 members of Higashi Nippon International University Shohei’s baseball team.
She’s a third-year student and usually works as a team manager, helping with game operations and keeping an eye on the players’ condition. At Koshien, she was registered as the team’s scorekeeper.
After their run came to an end, she knelt down and collected some of the dirt from Koshien to take home with her.
“It was a great three years.”
“Thank you, high school baseball.”
For Japanese high school baseball players, taking home dirt from Koshien after their final game is a long-standing tradition — a small piece of the place they spent years dreaming of reaching.

Chicago WHITE SOX HELD
"PEACE BE WITH YOU" BETWEEN INNINGS.
I think MLB teams should offer peace, like singing, "Like take me out to the ball game".

Shohei making a young fan’s year!

Caught this moment between Shohei Ohtani and a young fan just before first pitch of the Dodgers/Cubs game on August 5 at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Ohtani hit a leadoff home run moments later. The kid is probably still on cloud 9.

there's a bat dog in minor league baseball and she's in the best shape of her life

Mokoro is a chocolate Lab and the official bat dog for the Lake County Captains. She retrieves bats after hits, has her own helmet, and gets louder cheers from the crowd than the hit itself.

I work at The Farmer's Dog and we got to be part of her story this season. Going into 2026 her trainer noticed she'd put on a few extra pounds — important for a dog doing that much running. She switched to pre-portioned fresh food and has already lost eight pounds.

Her trainer put it well — too much weight is hard on hips, especially when she's moving as much as she does.

Idk, it's just a good one. She absolutely loves her job.
