Need advice for Bilbao airport stay

#asking for my friend

Hello folks!

My friend is traveling to Spain from India, will reach Bilbao airport at 11:30PM. She has to go to San Sebastian, where she has booked the hostel. However, we got to know the last shuttle bus is at 12 midnight, and getting out of flight, collecting luggage might take some time and then she might miss the bus.

So, what to do?!

  1. She can stay in Bilbao, take a taxi from Airport to some hotel.

  2. She can stay at the Bilbao airport in the night, leave for San Sebastian in the morning using shuttle bus.

  3. She can directly take a taxi to her hostel in San Sebastian (but that's quite expensive).

Are there any other options?

Thanks. Please let us know!!

Zona Hotel a Bilbao

Buongiorno.

Long layover in Bilbao

Hi, I'm having a long layover in Bilbao (14h) from 19h/8pm until my next flight at 9 the next morning, I've seen that the airport closes at night but that the car rental lobby was still accessible to sleep in, how true is that? And what other cheap option could I have, I'm kind of scared to miss my flight if I go in the city during my layover. Thanks a lot if you can help!

Spanish schools in Bilbao with home stay accommodation options?

Hola! I’m moving to the País Vasco region and will be in Bilbao from Sept to Oct and I’m looking for Spanish schools that offer homestays accommodation options (living with a local family, daily immersion, meals, etc).

I start an English language assistant job just outside of Bilbao in November, so I’d really like to improve my Spanish before then. I’m around A1/A2 and mostly need speaking + everyday practice.

Despite the positive reviews on Google, I’ve seen a lot of forums with people saying Hemingway Institutoa is terrible? So I’m unsure about that one.

If anyone has recommendations or personal experiences with schools or homestay programmes in Bilbao (or nearby with easy transport), I’d really appreciate it.

Gracias ☺️

Food tour?

Is a food tour in Bilbao through Viator or Secret Food Tours worth it? We are a couple traveling, spending 2 days in Bilbao, first time in Spain. Thanks in advance!

Airport Timing

Hello!

I am flying Bilbao -> Madrid -> New York. I just got email from Iberia asking me to arrive at the airport 4 hours early for my flight! Can this possibly be correct?! When I arrived, the airport seemed small, friendly, and easy to manage. I was not expecting to do customs until Madrid, but even if that is wrong, does it really take 4 hours? That seems crazy to me. Can anyone confirm this from experience?

Is Bilbao/Basque Country a bad place to solo travel to as a non-spanish speaker?

I've been thinking about traveling to Basque Country for a while now. Although I do not speak spanish so I won't be able to talk to most of the people. I'm a social guy who likes to grab a drink so not being able to talk to would suck. What do you guys think? You still think it's possible to find some english speaking people (other tourists, locals etc) in Basque Country?

Looking for eclipse glasses in Bilbao

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for eclipse glasses here in Bilbao today. Does anyone happen to have a spare pair that I could buy?

If not, does anyone know where I could still find some on short notice today? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Does anyone have a spare pair of eclipse glasses you're willing to sell me, please?

I got one! 😁

Hi,

I’m on a road trip to Spain to watch the total solar eclipse. I thought I’d be able to buy a pair along the way, but everywhere I’ve been the last few days, they’ve been sold out. I’ll be passing through Bayonne. Does anyone have a spare pair they’d be willing to sell me?

Thanks in advance!

Bilbao during Semana Grande

We (myself, spouse and our 1 year old) have a long weekend booked in Bilbao. We didn’t realize Semana Grande will start when we are there.

It looks like a lot of the festivities are Casco Viejo and the Arenal area.

How crazy will it be? Will the Guggenheim be way too crowded? If we want to tour Casco Viejo - is it best to do that Friday before it starts? If we tour in the morning- will things be less crowded?

Will the surrounding area be more crowded or will this draw everyone into Bilbao leaving the other parts of the region less busy?

Are there any Semana Grande activities that would be pleasant with a toddler? Or should we scrap our plans and go elsewhere in the region?

Semana Grande looks awesome! Just not sure it’s an appropriate (or pleasant) vacation with a toddler.

A place to get married?

I’m visiting from Texas and have spent a ton of time in Bilbao. So much so, I consider it my second home and a place to where I’ve chosen to get married on New Years Eve.

This is only ceremonial as we are getting married back in Texas after our trip. Hoping to find resources on a photographer and someone to officiate.

All I care about is marrying my soon to be wife and it just us. We aren’t having any guests as we are eloping.
