Looking for recommendations on places/events of Black cultural significance

I’m Black, F, visiting from the States (I cannot write Black American, it makes me feel physically ill, so I’ll say first generation born there, to a Barbadian mum, German dad.)

I’m here until first week of June and trying to find Black cultural/historical events, organizations, talks, walks, etc, to support, experience and learn about Black British culture and history. Not surprisingly, the usual tourist sites have precious little to say about anything significantly Black. Doesn’t have to be big or well-known! I’m based in Hereford for the duration but willing to travel if I can make it work and figure out the trains (ha ha). Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

life is very different for POCs in England and the UK generally speaking outside of major cities like London

Anytime the are racial talks on TikTok between black Americans and black British ppl there is always this narrative floating around that “there’s no that much racism in the uk its more so classism” the uk most definitely has a class problem but outside major cities non white ppl aren’t really welcome . There’s even people genuinely shocked on TikTok that reforms won a bunch of seats throughout England like whyyy ??? do people not know about racism in the 1980s in London and how severe it was. Ask your parents about all the racist white people who used to live in London and how they left to areas nearby like Essex’s when black and brown ppl moved into London . The racism in the uk seems so shocking now bc it had never been addressed at least in America they have real conversation everyone knows “hey the south doesn’t like black ppl” but for some reason black brits who’ve never left there bubble in London believe outside London they are rated by white people like no I promise you go to these areas and try to enter a spoons you will get the most dirtiest looks ever. I can’t be the anyone one who’s realised this.
