Someone to read "the trouble with being born" by Emil Cioran?

Hi! I have never read a books by Emil Cioran, although I have dig into his work superficially and made a little research about him before starting it. I am loving the small quotes but I feel it would be more interesting to debate them with someone, since most of them can be a bit controversial or interpreted in different ways...

I am from Spain so Spanish also works if you feel more comfortable in that language.

The dynamic I thought was about reading a few pages per day and discussing the ones we liked the most. I only demand thoughtful answers with critical thought, not something like "I agree with this".

For reference (if that matters to someone) I am 18 (although I have been reading philosophy and classics since I am 14)

Said that, good afternoon!

Anyone else want to be book buddies? Serious!!

I genuinely love the idea of reading. I have a stack of books I'm excited about, good intentions, and then… nothing. The focus slips, the days blur together, and somehow weeks go by without me opening a single page.

ADHD makes it really hard for me to read consistently not because I don't want to, but because starting and staying on track feels like climbing a wall some days. Deep down though, I really do want to build this habit. Books matter to me.

So I'm looking for an accountability buddy (or a small group) who gets it.

The rules would be simple:

  • We set gentle daily targets together nothing crazy
  • We check in with each other
  • Even reading for just one minute counts as a win. No judgment, no pressure.

If you're also sitting on a growing TBR pile and struggling to actually open it, DM me. Doesn't matter what genre you're into we're just here to show up for ourselves, one page (or paragraph) at a time.

Not Sure What to Read Next...

Hey! 38F. Ive recently finished London Falling by Patrick Radden Keefe and A Killer in the Family by Amin Ahmed. Ive got a TBR but not really sure what to pick next so Im passing the time with some fanfiction.

Looking for a buddy to read a book (s) together. If we strike up a friendship, that'd be great too. Im happy to discuss reccomendations. Im not fan of horror & litrpg sorry. Also, I like romance books but prefer to read those on my own. Id love to read more sci fi, high fantasy & nordic noir thrillers.

If this is something you think you'd like to try out, let me know. Cheers.

Looking for some talkative book pals

So, I am an obsessive reader and always have been. You know that type of person that takes any free second possible to finish a few pages no matter where they are? Yeah, that’s me. And I’m sure there are tons of you out there that are incredibly similar.

I’d love to find someone or multiple someones that are up for chatting on and off throughout the day about books. I’m down to talk about what we are reading, what we plan to read or make grandiose plans to read something new together. All of it sounds great to me.

I tend to stick to lit fic and genre fiction most of the time, but I’m always up for anything. Lately, my favourite writers have been people like Otessa Moshfegh, Max Porter, Olga Tokarczuk, George Saunders and Becky Chambers. Right now, I’m bouncing between a re-read of Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix and the fourth book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series (because of course I am…lol).

I hope all of you are having a great day. Feel free to reach out to me and let’s have some fun.

Need a friend to send a poem a day to

Hello everyone, does anybody here love poetry? I am very fond of it, poetry can act like the window to ones soul. It allows me to understand how other people perceive the world. Also poetry acts like a voice of resistance, as an political statement in an oppressive regime.

I am looking for someone who loves poems, short, long doesnt matter. And someone who i can send a poem a day to and through which we share our analysis of it and how it makes us feel

I believe the best way to understand someone is through a shared analysis of art, because art is what unites us all in this world. Let me help you in helping me understand the world better.

Also because poems are very short, this could be like an extra added bonus on your daily reading goals that will keep you accountable.

30F seeking book buddies for yapping and hyping (preferable from Europe)! < w <

Hello, hello lovely souls,

u can call me Pluto, I am female, 30 years old and (desperately) seeking book buddies around my age.

I can't quite recall the last time I had been in an active "book club group chat" and I have to admit that I miss the interactions that usually come with it. Most of the time, the formed groups broke up or rather got inactive after a book had been finished, so I figured it might be nice to rather look for people, who like to yap about the books they recently bought and love to hype the last stories they got lost in, because they had been simply world changing to them. There is no necessary need to read the exact same books, as long as you like to interact with someone about a common hobby.

I feel that a huge favorite of mine currently is crime/thriller and nonfiction, hold up, wait for the end and don't immidiately skip this add, pls! There is more!

I am looking for recommandations in these two genres, since I found my love to them later on in life. So far, I've read the crime/thriller books by Uketsu and really, really enjoyed them. I also started The Housemaid, which had an interesting plottwist. I also remeber that I really enjoyed the atmosphere of Girl on the Train.

As for nonfiction, I developed a huge interest in astrology since the beginning of the year. Also I really love to get my hands on books that talk about life-changing tools, uncovering secrets and even mythology of various cultures, like Ikigai or The Four-way Path, for example.

The books I usually love to get lost in often have way more fantasy aspects in them. My absolute favorite since a few years now is Before the coffee gets cold. I love cozy fantasy that confronts you with a harsh thruth right upfront.

Otherwise, I am also a huge fan of young adult (Six of Crows, The invisibvle life of Addie LaRue, Caraval, Katabasis), the classics (Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, 1984), fairy tales of various cultures as well as mangas (CLAMP, Nana, The summer Hikaru died, To your erternity).

I am pretty late to the game, so there are still a lot of books which prominent readers probably already have read twice before, haha. Therefore, I'd appreciate people who kinda struggle with finding the time to sit down and read daily. I don't mind if you are someone who actually reads a lot, don't get me wrong here. I do think that it could also be quite motivating to hear that someone actually manages to read through a few chapters per day. All I will definitely need is someone who doesn't try to either set me under pressure, whether it is about reading (especially when reading a book together, for example) or my general activity, since I am not someone who is able to be chronically online and responsive.

Now, why did i specifically ask for people from Europe? Though people from all around the globe are welcome to shoot me a DM. I love to interact mostly on Discord if I feel comfortable enough or, this time, preferably on Instagram, where we could also send each other reels of book recommendations (pretty, pretty pls)!

If I shall actually find people whom I can vibe with, though, I'd love to attend conventions together, preferably the Leipziger Buchmesse in Germany (yes, I myself am from Germany). Since I can't seem to find people in my inner circle who'd like to go with me, I am still hoping to find others who might suffer from the same problem and would love to go together.

43/F Who wants to buddy-read "King Sorrow" by Joe Hill?

You can also read a different book of fantasy/horror/sci fi/crime and we will exchange our views. I miss talking in English to someone. I was once an English teacher but my language skills got rusty. I live in Poland.

Do You Guys Feel Like Reading Is A Lonely Hobby? How Do You Feel About That If You Agree?

My heading says it all. I listened to A Place For Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza and then Together Tea by Marjan Kamali and then The Lion Women of Tehran and I’m having such a good time. But I also feel really lonely .. I feel like it’s just me and the story or just me and the author .. it’s funny though because there is such a thing as a book club where a group of people are all listening to or reading the same book and that sounds like it may address that issue. But I’ve never been a part of one lol. I think I was also sad because I wrote a question about what to listen to next after A Place For Us on a book Reddit and got no response.. It was really disappointing. What do you guys think?

Seeking book buddy with loads of patience

Heyo I am 35f from Europe and ever since moving and having a child I have lost touch with all my book-loving university friends. I would love to have someone to talk about books with again.

I read fantasy, heaps of it, together with classical and contemporary literature. I enjoy books that I can recognise myself and the general human condition in, so I suppose on the deeper side theme-wise, but it doesn't always have to be a brick. I do enjoy poetry every now and then, though I find it difficult to get into compared to novels.

My favorite authors are JRR Tolkien, Robin Hobb, Benedict Wells, David Grossmann, Valerio Massimo Manfredi, and probably a dozen others I cannot recall now that I need to.

I cannot stomach the Booktok's craze for porn in fantasy guise, nor for books that need a gazillion trigger warnings, nor for standardised romance without plot. So if you are a hard-core romantasy/dark fantasy fan, we probably aren't meant to be. I also am unable to be interested in biographies and non-fiction books.

I am usually a pretty fast reader, but with a small child and a full-time job, time is what it is. So I would ideally looking for someone who isn't trying to clear 5 books in a week, I probably need a week or two to finish one book now, to give you an idea :)

Also, I can read English, Italian and German, so we can also do multilingual exchanges if that's something you enjoy.

If any of this feels interesting to you, I am looking forward to meeting you! :)

Anyone reading Dracula right now?

Hey there.

This is my second time reading Dracula. I read it for the first time in Malayalam, my mother tongue.

I picked the English version today and started reading. There's lots of stuff I am noticing for the first time. I go back and forth thinking of what happened in the movies I watched and what's happening in the book.

So, I thought of sharing/discussing it with people who are reading it currently.

If interested, hit me up :)

Looking for book buddy same age as me or older. ^_^

About me:

I am 30f, introverted, and based in Europe. Most of my time goes into studying, especially chemistry, microbiology, German, and immunology. I am a slow reader, but I am trying to read more consistently and improve my German at the same time.

I like honest conversations, dark books, science, and people who can talk about difficult things without turning everything fake-positive. My favorite hobby is spending time with my husband. Mostly I am looking for a calm book buddy or friend who likes reading and talking about what a book actually does to your brain.

Books I am looking for:

I want dark, tragic, page-turning novels, preferably from the 21st century. I like stories with lonely, damaged, intense characters who are mentally unraveling. Themes I am drawn to include depression, emptiness, anhedonia, rage, trauma, abuse, isolation, obsession, and descent into madness.

I do not want heavy romance, explicit sexual content, or books where romance is the main point. I prefer psychological, literary, or realistic fiction, though light science fiction is fine if the emotional core is still human suffering and mental collapse.

The kind of mood I want is somewhere near The Bell Jar, No Longer Human, and A Little Life, but preferably more modern and easier to get hooked on.
