How to disable emergency alerts on android

Due to Manitoba government not enabling reasonable alert tones/volumes for lower priority emergency alerts(nuke launch tone for every alert is way overkill), I've resorted to this method that works to disable all emergency alerts. If the government allowed the settings in each android phone to work properly I could enable/disable each tone as needed but they didn't implement it properly

For Android 13 and newer:

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.cellbroadcastreceiver

How's it like in brandon

Hey everyone, I may have the opportunity to move here from Hamilton Ontario.

The housing market here is crazy and even with my good job I can't afford anything. I have a buddy moving out here as well and I'm curious how all of you like the city?

I am a heavy wrecker operator so finding work will be relatively easy.

What's the worst possible thing you can say about it and the best.

Unethical action by investment advisor / mortgage broker

Hi, we are dealing with a situation right now due to a person that was acting as an investment advisor / mortgage broker in Manitoba. I have been advised that there are numerous other former clients who faced:

- this advisor churning mortgages for commission

- having clients sign over title on homes they didn’t
own (like their parents homes) to invest the money earning the advisor a commission

- took advantage of ESL individuals

I would like to hear from anyone who has experienced this and how they dealt with it.

Looking for someone who will fix my laptop

I have a PC laptop that's been out of commission for a couple of years now. I was hoping to get it fixed and get some recommendations on where to actually FIX THE PROBLEM.

When it stopped working, it would only turn on when it was plugged in and would cut out all the time. Then it stopped turning on all together. I took it to Brandon Computers, and they said it was the battery. So they replaced the battery. It worked for about a week and then it did the same thing. I ended up leaving it for a few months then I decided to take it to myITsource. They ended up replacing the battery. I then called Brandon Computers, explained my situation, explained that I had it there a few months ago. They said that the battery and work was out of warranty. Okay. That was expected. They then said that batteries are supposed to be disposable anyway. Yeah not after a week on a laptop, and especially when it costs $150 to get the work done.

Does anyone have recommendations on where to go that's not Brandon Computers or myITsource that will actually fix it right? To put into perspective, the laptop cost $1000 and lasted a year and a half.

Why'd they rebrand 96.1?

I know i'm several years late, but it seems like an out of the blue marketing decision. The BOB fm brand seemed to be working fine for them, so idk why they would change it up.

Anyone here in Assiniboine College’s Practical Nursing (LPN) program in Brandon?

Hi everyone,
I’m considering the Practical Nursing (LPN) program at Assiniboine College in Brandon and was hoping to hear from current students or recent graduates.

I have a few questions:

~ How has your experience been with the classes and instructors?

~How are the clinical placements?
Is public transportation in Brandon reliable enough to get to campus and clinicals without a car?

~Are clinical placements usually within Brandon, or were you sent to other rural sites?

I don’t have a car, so transportation is one of my biggest concerns.

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks in advance!

My Concepts for a PTH 1A Kemnay Truck Bypass

For an initial design, I'd realign PTH 1A on the Mile Road (Road 117W) to connect with TCH 1. The current Intersection would be closed off in order to reroute traffic away from Kemnay. Whereas the new Intersection would be upgraded to accommodate slip lanes on and off of the TCH. The Railway Crossing would be left as at-grade. The Intersection just East of the underpass would have a turning lane to direct trucks North towards TCH.

The Ultimate Design could be used in the future when/ if PTH 110 gets extended from Brandon South to PTH 1/1A. It would have a Diamond Interchange with TCH 1, along with a Service Road connecting PTH 1A to Kemnay, ultimately shutting down the old underpass.

Disclaimer: These aren't official drawings, these are just my concepts. While they're not perfect solutions and obviously pie in the sky, they're just ideas that the Highway Department could take notes from.

Help me meet some new people

So, been in Brandon for 2yrs+ now. Sometimes this town feels too depressing & lonely. I have friends I hang out with sometimes but it just doesn’t feel alive. Plus it's so hard trying to find a girl. Maybe me being chubby has something to do with it🤦‍♂️

Anyway, the point is tell me what u guys do here exactly. The ones who have been here a long time. It feels like there is this community who walks talks dates within themselves😑. Plus I don’t drive currently so going on a 50km drive on my own isn’t an option anymore.

Hotel Recommendation Along Brandon Air Shuttle Route to Winnipeg Airport

Hi everyone,

My two friends (2 female) are travelling from Brandon to Winnipeg using Brandon Air Shuttle. They have early morning flight the next day, so they'll need to stay one night in Winnipeg.

The shuttle mentioned they can sometimes drop passengers at hotels if they're along their route to the airport. We're looking for:

  • A budget-friendly hotel (around $100–150 if possible)
  • Safe for a female travelers
  • Ideally on or close to the shuttle's route to Winnipeg Airport so they can drop them directly

Has anyone done this before with Brandon Air Shuttle? Which hotels have they dropped you at? Any recommendations or hotels to avoid?

Thanks in advance!

Moving to Brandon soon! 22F, non-driver, ECE II what should I expect?

Hi everyone!I’m a 22-year-old Early Childhood Educator (ECE II) planning a fresh start, and I’m looking into moving to Brandon soon. I’m really excited for a new adventure, but since I’ve never lived there, I have a few big questions and would love some honest advice from locals!

A few key things about me and my situation:

I don’t drive: I rely entirely on walking, biking, or public transit. How realistic is it to get around Brandon without a vehicle, especially during the winter? Are there specific neighbourhoods I should target for housing that make commuting easier?

The Job Market (ECE II): I work in child care. For those in the field or parents with kids in daycare, how is the hiring market right now for ECE IIs? Are there specific centres (like the Y or the college/university daycares) that are known as great places to work?

General Vibe: As someone who loves adventure but also appreciates a quiet, peaceful lifestyle, what is it like living there? Is it easy to make friends in your 20s?
