To women of Brisbane, do you approach men?

Hello,

I am a young man in Brissy doing some research about people and social dynamics. I’ve noticed quite a few times online, there is a rhetoric about men not approaching in the women’s world, yet in the manosphere men complaining about “hypergamy” and somehow all the women approach the top 1% men.

I know that’s all up in the clouds. However, I go to Uni and as someone with a thing for people and culture, I can point that pattern pretty consistently at least. You pull up a few posts on the uni’s stalker page or the love letters page, and it seems a decade ago, the dynamics were a bit different.

My question to women and (men), how do you show that you’re interested in the other person nowadays? How do you send those signals? Do you no longer find your self being approached? What makes you not take the first initiative in 2026?

Cheers,

Community Proposal: Picnic, yay or nay?

Hey Brisbane people!

I recently made a post looking to meet some new people, and I was genuinely surprised by how many responses I got from others who are also looking for friends and a bit more community. I have since found a lovely group of Reddit misfits with whom I've been spending much of my time. The best part is that, whenever I mention this group of friends publicly, I receive a lot of comments and dms asking to join.

So, I thought... why not actually get a bunch of us together?

I’m thinking of organising a casual public picnic somewhere central, probably New Farm Park or Roma Street Parkland, where people can come along, bring some food or snacks, sit on the grass and meet some new humans.

Nothing formal, no weird networking energy. Just a low-pressure afternoon for people who would like to expand their social circle. Come alone or bring a friend, stay for half an hour or stay all afternoon.

At this stage I’m mostly trying to gauge interest before I organise a date/place properly, so if you’d genuinely be keen, comment or send me a message!

Apparently Brisbane has a small army of people all sitting at home wanting friends. Many of us have migrated to Australia, relocated from other cities or one day woke up feeling a bit lonely and a bit blue, so we may as well do something about it 🌳🧺

Keen to hear your thoughts!

I've created a Discord channel for Meet Ups! https://discord.gg/mm7gp2th4

Looking for new friends in Brissy, based at Spring Hill

I’ve recently moved a lot , NZ, Sydney and Melbourne working in the film industry and keen to meet some new friends in Brissy. Unfortunately I lost touch with a lot of great friends moving between counties and cities.

I worked the last 20 years in the movies industry and as a teacher at Queensland College of Art doing 3D Visual Effects on movies, as well as Unreal Engine Environments on survival PC games. Was super fun ! Ex Lucasfilm and Weta FX artist. So if you love movies or games we will have something in common.

My hobbies for fun lately is going to the beach at Sunshine Coast, Coolum beach and Noosa is amazing fun. I love going to the movies , live music, playing guitar, collecting records, listening to soundtracks on my Klipsch sevens, playing ps5 , retro gaming like snes/neo geo, bbqs, beers, I have been flying big electric RC planes and Helicopters recently at an airfield and race 1:8 nitro buggies.

Would be great to meet some new Dude friends or friend girls who want to hang out and do fun things together on weekends or weeknights after work. I’m a very chill person and easy to get along with. Catchup at Newfarm, the city or Southbank for a drink or something.

Any film geeks, or gamer geeks reach out. Super keen to say hi. Also any 80s kids who grew up in the 90s skating , EDM music, Silverchair, Prodigy, Nirvana era reach out say hi 👋. I was born in 82 and went worked at Skatebiz in Albert St in the 90s and can share retro era stories !

Ok hope everyone has an awesome week !

30F ready to make some new friends ✨

Hello all!! Longtime lurker, first time poster. 30F with various interests and hobbies looking for some new friends.

So I’ve got some long term friends I’ve had for many years but due to changing life priorities, I only see them a few times a year.
In the last year I made friends with a good group through bouldering, however I was recently done dirty by my closest friend of that group. We will probably remain friends, however I need space from that friendship for a bit and that means I have to avoid my friends that I usually see a few times a week.
SO, I’ve taken this opportunity to start seeing my other friends that I’ve been neglecting and I thought I’d also take this opportunity to try and make some new friends outside of my bouldering group.

Hobbies: Bouldering, pole fitness, yoga, hiking (especially for mushrooms), crochet, embroidery, painting, drawing, clay figures, seeing horror films, used to be more of a gamer but now I’m a casual one.
I love karaoke, picnics, going to gardens, medieval festival (I go every year), any excuse to dress up/wear a costume, Halloween, escape rooms, trying new food places (especially sweet treats), going to the art galleries, ice skating/rollerblading, sometimes I’ll watch a musical or ballet at QPAC, ghost tours, music events and any random pop up events that come to Brisbane. I also really want to go to Area 51!! Also haven’t been to Dreamworld or Movieworld for many years, so maybe a trip to there soon.

I live in Logan but I pretty much drive wherever. Mostly to Brisbane, but sometimes up to the Sunshine Coast or down to the Gold Coast depending on the activity.

If I sound like a friend you’d like to have (strictly platonic, please) DM me a selfie so I know you’re real and tell me about your favourite thing!! (If you can’t follow this simple instruction, I’m deleting your message). I’m thinking of organising a meet in a few weekends (not sure the activity yet, probably something lowkey) and if it seems like a few of us will vibe, maybe even a group hang✨

(Also I’m already part of the discord server)

What's the Hap in Brisbane

Hey Brisbane Social,

I want to share a project I've been working on for some time, because I think it could be a benefit to the community.

What's the Hap

https://whatsthehap.com/

Is an event and activity indexing platform.

I catalogue all the things going on ("the haps") in Brisbane, and present them in a consistent interface, with many other features, like collabs with your friends.

Why not just use Eventbrite, Humanitix, Meetup, etc?

If you want to go to 13 different websites, all with their own interfaces and filtering options to find stuff to do, be my guest.

I wanted to bring everything together into one place, with useful and consistent filtering options, like searching by Next weekend, just Tomorrow night, or maybe a specific date in the future like Halloween night, or by category instead e.g. dancing or boat parties.

And then there are other cool features, like saving the haps, schedule view, map view, and inviting your friends to an upcoming hap, seeing who's keen by collecting RSVPs.

What's wrong with Facebook events?

Not everyone wants to use Facebook, and I personally found it a pain to filter things properly. It doesn't seem like Zuck really cares about events that much, apart from to drive ad views in FB.

Is this an app?

Not exactly. You can use it like any other website, or follow the prompt to add it to your home screen, just like an app.

I wanted to remove any friction to get started using it.

Do I need an account?

You can totally use it without creating account, but some features will be limited, like syncing your saved haps across devices, and creating invites.

It takes two minutes anyway, whenever you're ready.

There are too many paid/regular events!

I index any given thing to do in Brisbane-- would you believe there's 1000+ in any given week?

However many of these are paid activities that you can do any week. If you want to see less of these, click on Filters and then untick Show Recurring.

If you want just the free events, you can also go More filters -> Free

What's on the roadmap?

More haps!

I index 13 different sources currently, but always want to have more!
If you see a hap out there that's not listed, let me know.

Create your own haps!

Great for hosting private parties or community events, I'm going to make an easy way to create your own event listings, and invite your people.

And more!

I have lots of ideas, but I want to hear from you. Tell me what you've always wanted from a platform like this :)

What's a "hap" anyway?

It's something that's a happenin' ;)

Quite an old term actually, have a read if you're interested

Looking for local friends

Hi Guys!

Moved to Brisbane 10 years ago (south east), but have struggled to make any long lasting local connections other than my fiancé and kid 😅. Hoping to find some fellow locals to chat with and make some long term friends.

39 Male, pretty time poor due to work and having a small kid. Hobbies are gardening, gaming (ps5), bbqs, film (horror mostly), nerdy comic stuff (spider-man and Batman are favs), aquascaping (procrastinating on my new build), and anything spooky related.

I am pretty reserved at first, but typically won’t shut up when comfortable. No preference for age or genders, just someone genuine with relatable interests and life experiences would be so rad! Open to a chat here, the. Perhaps a coffee or a whisky.

Cheers!

So this is difficult for me but here goes…

Hey.. so this is a fairly last resort. I’m struggling. I’m 39, male, living with his wife and son. Very happily married. Except since July and until October: my wife is 650km away doing her uni prac. It’s really proven to me just how few friends I have by myself. The two I do have are the best friends you could ask for but… they got their own lives and pretty insane stressors at the moment. Ie.. C - she just lost her dad a week ago.. M is at breaking point himself. There problems mean they need time and space…

So, hmm me… neurodivergent af. Recently diagnosed AuDHD with emphasis on the ADHD inattentive. Medicated since 38.. not 12m yet. I game, just bought a 3d printer (so if you’ve used a resin printer, I’d love help learning), my wife and I go to a lot of concerts.. we’re going to Foo Fighters, Jet, Cake, Death Cab for Cutie, dizzie rascal, Hillary duff (wife’s one, but it’s in NZ so.. fuck it, should be fun. Also desperately wanna do good things for the 4th in a row.

I don’t drink much at all, but not opposed to a pub friend. I am a medicinal marijuana patient. So while I’m not a skateboarding stoner, I do dress like I stepped out of a THPS game set in the late 90’s. I am very.. philosophical. If you want the best worldly advice; I gotchu.. I just wish I could follow some of that sage wisdom myself. lol I’m a huge TMNT fan.

I don’t care about age or gender.. only that we have some things to talk about.. and they’re appropriate for friendship. :)

Whats on Saturday - CBD or surrounds 40s

I'm travelling solo, guy in my 40s, looking for something to do Saturday afternoon/night.

Staying in the city, familiar with the area and tend to check out the gallery, walk the river etc but feel like maybe having a few drinks in the sun, could be fun way to spend the Saturday afternoon.

What kind of place could I rock up to and blend in?

I've seen all the lists, whisky bars and cocktail bars, casino, Doo Bop seem to be the most favourites for a solo to blend in or at least have a few solo and not feel too out of place.

Thanks!

Camping trip on 29-30th August Weekend

Hi

I (26M) will be travelling to Giraween national Park for camping and hiking with folks from a fb group. I'll be driving alone there so have a spare seat if you want a weekend gateway, have nice conversations and make it a fun outdoor experience. I have booked a campsite as well. All you need to have your own camping gear and possibly share the fuel costs. Thanks

Looking for friends Northside (northlakes, Mango hill, redcliffe areas) 21 f!!

Tldr - looking for friends / group in the northside of brissie bc sick of commute

I’m 21F, originally from Victoria and moved to Brisbane last year, and I miss having that little close-knit group from high school where you can literally just message someone like “wanna go for a walk?” and they’re 10 minutes away.

I’ve made friends through UQ, but I cannot keep fighting for my life on the Redcliffe line every time I want to see someone lmaooo.

Ideally looking for girls around my age in the North Lakes/Mango Hill/Redcliffe-ish area. And I’m very much willing to actually organise things rather than just saying “we should hang out sometime” and never doing it.

About me / things I’m into:

• Dog walks / going for random walks in general

• Gym — I go to Anytime Fitness!!

• Shopping + wandering around + yapping

• Redcliffe markets!!!

• Arts & crafts, air-dry clay, jewellery, painting etc. I am NOT particularly good at them but they’re fun to do, especially with a moscato lol

• Perfumes/fragrances, op shopping, and currently working on the interior design of my room and garden!!

• Nature, day trips, travelling — I fuck heavy with Bird watching too

• Hiking in theory because I am currently very unfit but working on it 😭

• Getting dressed up and going out for drinks

• I loveee a fish too, so if any girls wanna go fishing, I’m down  but also equally down to go check out Mecca afterwards

• Gaming, Stardew Valley, Roblox, RDR2, GTA, Fortnite. Love bored and card games too !

• Anime + random TV shows + MAFS

• I love AFL, but I also fw One Piece, GOT, rom-coms, love island, better call saul, twd, true blood, omg so many hard to thinkkk etc

• I love YouTube,  Drew Gooden, Papa Meat, cooking shows etc

• Love movies and musicals. I watched Cats the musical and thought it was kinda weird but enjoyed it  but I LOVED Pride and Prejudice when it was playing at QPAC in Brisbane. So good, you have to watch it

• I’m not a huge drinker but if the group wants to go clubbing I’ll absolutely come along

• Trying random hobbies/things just because they sound fun

• Love history, debating and reading, was on chess team in hs like to try sports like tennis squash ect

• never done it b4 but im sure I'd be into trivia

I’d like to think I’m a jack of all trades, master of none type of person (in a good way??). Like, if you have some niche hobby, I’ve probably tried it to some degree or something similar, and I’m 100% up for trying new things.

I’m honestly looking for the kind of friendship where we can be like:

“Dog walk this afternoon?”

“Yes.”

“Shopping Saturday?”

“Yes.”

“Wanna drive to Maleny tomorrow?”

“Why not.”

I also think a group of girls would be so much more fun for this than constantly trying to coordinate 1-on-1 friendships across all of Brisbane.

I’d genuinely love to build an actual little group that hangs out regularly.

If you’re also local and thinking “wait, I want exactly this too”, DM me!! We can start a group chat and see if we all vibe.

Sorry if I seem very forward or if this was a ramble lmao 😭 It’s hard to convey interest and balance some sort of personality display without writing an entire autobiography, but I figured I’d give it a shot!!

(18f) cosplay photoshoot for my favourite show! 😊

Hi guys, recently I have started making a costume for a female Black Noir from one of my favourite tv shows The Boys. I also ordered a private angel cosplay and I would love to do other characters like Queen Maeve and Starlight.

The only problem is I don’t have many friends that watch The Boys and none that are into cosplay in general. Usually I take photos by myself or my boyfriend takes pics of me but I would absolutely love to make some friends who would join in on the action. For Halloween I want to dress up as Black Noir or private angel and take pics around Brisbane and it would be so cool to have someone dress up as another character with me.

It doesn’t even have to be from the boys, I would just love to meet cosplay friends to take pics together or go to events.

Other stuff im into includes superhero media in general like DC, Marvel, and I also love anime, (I want to cosplay Miku and Lum from urusei yatsura) cartoons (I did a fiona cosplay from adventure time), disney and more.

Feel free to dm me or comment if you’re interested 😊😊
(Sometimes for some reason dm’s don’t show up for me so if I don’t reply for a while leave a comment)

Friends anyone?

Hello everyone!

I'm 25M based in Brisbane area. To preface my post, here is a quick background: I have a small group of very close friends I've known since start of high school who I'm very thankful for and talk to every day still. This year I've noticed life is getting in the way a lot more for all of us. Nobodys free time lines up any more, every hangout gets less frequent and feels more hyped than an Avengers movie.

If you feel like you're in a similar boat (not required) and around my age or even just looking for a mate, check below for a bit about me and see if you think we'll click. Open to being friends with with people from all walks of life, and down for just about anything :)

  1. I love to travel, my bucket list is to have walked on all continents one day. Currently got ideas for my 3^(rd) Europe trip early next year.

2. I'm a car guy thanks to things like Top Gear, motorsport, forza/sim racing and need for speed (most wanted 2005 was my canon event). I'm always down for a cruise to anywhere with a bit of safe spirited driving along the way. I will never say no to more cruise mates, if you're up for it feel free to message. Bike or car doesn't matter the more the better.

  1. I like my music, all kinds of genres and eras. My playlist is cooked from just adding every song I like to it over the years. I got a few gigs on later this year. My friends don't share my music taste so generally go to these alone. Currently contemplating going to see Rise Against and Dropkick Murphy's. If someone wants to go lets do it!

  2. Big space and sci-fi nerd. I usually win star wars quizzes but I'm past my prime so nowadays I need to warm-up by going on a binge... which I'm currently due for.

Oh and being a gamer I think goes without saying lol. I'd say I'm just an average dude making his way through life. All the other usual things too like nights out, casual drinks, bbq's etc I'm into all that. If you feel like we'd get along feel free to message or leave a comment and I'll be in touch :)

31F Looking for friends - North Brisbane

As the title suggests, I’m looking to make some friends around North Brisbane. I’ve recently relocated here from interstate, so outside of the people I work with, I don’t really know anyone.

I’m into pretty much anything fitness and outdoors related. Hiking, swimming, the gym, pools, saunas, beach days, anything active really.

I’m also a huge horror and psychological thriller fan. Movies, books, creepy aesthetics, all of it.

I’m into video games too. I definitely play less as I get older, but I’ll always make time for them as a bit of an escape. Even if these days that means living vicariously through someone on Twitch or watching YouTube videos 😂

I’m a massive animal lover. I have a cat, but I’m definitely a big dog person. If I see a dog, there’s a very high chance I’m stopping to say hello and wrestle it.

I’m also a massive coffee snob, so if you know any cute, cosy cafes around North Brisbane, send me/us there.

I’m bubbly, outgoing, quirky, direct and honest. I’ve lived a bit of a life and have a fair amount of life experience, so I’d love to meet some mature people who are open to teaching me new things, having good conversations and growing together.

*Bonus points if you can teach me how to cook because I’m running out of creativity! I mainly eat meat and stick to a carnivore diet, so my kitchen repertoire is getting dangerously repetitive.

Male or female, I genuinely don’t mind. I get along with all sorts of people. I just really value mature friendships, good people and people who are past the stage of wanting to constantly get up to no good.

If you’re into any of the above and looking for new friends too, feel free to reach out 😊

Any decent surfers who regularly make the trip from Brisbane down to GC and NNSW for a wave ?

Hey guys I've moved down to brisbane from the sunny coast and now make the trip south to surf on weekends and some weekdays when I get the chance.
I don't really know anyone down that way and would be cool to meet new people, share the trip and of course share the stoke when there's a good swell!

New to Brisbane

Hey everyone I’ve recently to Brisbane and looking to meet some new people and make some friends.
26M and would be keen to meet people around a similar age either gender. I’m pretty easygoing and into cars, gaming, going out for food/drinks or just having a chill one and seeing what’s around Brisbane, I’m open to anything!
Don’t really know too many people over here yet, so thought I’d give this a go. If anyone’s in the same boat or keen to catch up shoot me a message

Anyone up for a hit 🎾

Hi All!

Over the last few months I’ve had a bit of a change in schedules and looking to fill up some time outside of work to get active with someone or someone’s preferably casual walks, kick of soccer or really any racquet sports (squash, tennis etc)

A bit about me - 27M full time shift worker, in a long term relationship with my beautiful partner. Live inner Northside and work at the airport. I’m healthy and relatively fit. I would say I’m an extroverted person that likes giving things a crack. I used to go to the gym and had a PT but looking at going into an apprenticeship so wanted to limit my spendings. Since I’ve stopped that I’ve found myself missing the social side of being active. I’m a big Pies and Bunnies supporter and enjoy trying new things and strategic games. I manage a restaurant so am relatively busy but want to start putting effort into my life outside of work. I’ve got a kelpie named Chef and we both enjoy going to dog parks and throwing a ball. I don’t enjoy running or golf unfortunately which seems like the in sports for guys atm.

I’m really just wanting to meet a new mate/s male or female to have a casual friendship with that’s respectful of each other and share similar values. Definitely get along with both genders pretty evenly but have more friends that are women than male, but would love to have a male mate that can enjoy watching the footy with on the odd occasion, get out and about couple of times a month.

Few things that I pride myself on and would be deal breakers; I have large amounts of respect towards women so being within the manosphere would definitely clash with my values and beliefs, not interested in only meeting up for beers (more keen on having an after activity beer), I’m pretty progressive but have a strong interest in listening to others stories and backgrounds. I don’t enjoy touching or being too physical. I enjoy people that have strong respect for themselves and others and respect their own set of values.

So if anyone has any recommendations of social adult tennis around Northside of Brisbane or other sports that are looking for a fill in, meet up for a dog walk or dog play or something similar let me know!

Thanks 😊
