Was inside the stop & shop supermarket near Barclays today when a group of three younger Hasidic Jewish folks came up to me saying they’re a phone company, and then asked me if I’m Jewish. Then one of them gave me this card, said Shabbat shalom, and left.
For context, I’m a South Asian man. Has this happened to anyone before ???
Hi! My partner and I are planning to get engaged but we want non-traditional rings, preferably from a local jeweler in Brooklyn where we could try them on in person. Any recommendations are highly appreciated! Here are a few options that almost hit the mark but still leaned a little too "rock(s) on a band" vibes:
(TL;DR we don't want something that immediately reads as an "engagement ring," we're more interested in a ring that's still high quality and incorporates gemstone(s)/diamond(s) but has a highly designed and original look. We're definitely open to jewelers that don't categorize themselves as engagement jewelers!)
Hi. Sitting in Hoyt street garden I witnessed 3 officers hit a woman on a citi bike at full speed in an unmarked white car running through a red light. They clearly attempted to hit and run before a huge crowd formed. As much as I’d like to name and shame them I worry this could hurt any possible case associated with this injury. The officer said she was going “so fast I didn’t even see the light.” I am in complete shock. They attempted to stop her from calling 911, take her property and laughed, actually laughed at us while we got her into the ambulance. What should I do aside from make an internal report which will do nothing?

This playful 1½-year-old is struggling at the shelter.
Jasper was found on the streets of Brooklyn where he didn’t belong & was almost hit by a car. He’s super healthy, but isn’t microchipped, and no owner has been located.
I was able to get him in my home where I assessed him; he immediately made biscuits, claimed the toys and baskets, climbed the cat furniture and acted like he always owned the home. He’s a chatty curious guy. I have cats of my own and sadly, I cannot keep or foster him.
Now he’s in a shelter cage, and he’s really sad. He is far too active to be cooped up. North Brooklyn cat rescue Whiskers-a-GoGo graciously offered to pull him after his neuter, but he urgently needs a foster home to go to. Cat rescues are overwhelmed right now & Jasper needs OUT.
He is only a year and a half old. He’s smart, affectionate, treat motivated, incredibly busy, and LOVES to play. He’s also a polydactyl. This is a cat who wants someone to get out the wand toy and spend time with him. He also likes to bunny kick his toys. He has so much energy and personality, but he needs somewhere he can actually enjoy being himself. If you’ve ever wanted a Bengal/Toyger type breed as a rescue, this is your guy!
Jasper could be a wonderful match for anyone who wants an active little companion and has the time to keep him engaged. He’d also be great for a family with kids who understand how to play gently and respectfully with a cat.
I got to see Jasper comfortable in a home and seeing him so sad now is heartbreaking. He needs out of the shelter and into a home where he can play, settle in, and feel safe.
Can you foster him, or give him a permanent home? Please fill out a foster or adoption application. If you can’t take him, please share this with someone who might. A foster home will be his next step out.
Someone unfortunately swiped my friend’s uppababy while she ran inside for a minute.
I live on the B/Q line and often need to get to north Brooklyn. Fastest way to do that? Leave the station at Atlantic Ave and get on the G at Fulton. Why should I have to pay a double fare just to get to work? A $12 round trip. Who can I petition about making this a free transfer.
Last night around 8:55pm, my friend was riding a Citi Bike and was involved in a hit and run with a motorcycle at the intersection of Bergen St & Grand Ave. He’s currently in the hospital undergoing surgery.
Posting in case anyone witnessed it or saw which direction the motorcycle went afterward. We’re trying to track down security camera footage from businesses around the intersection or along either street, so any leads would be really appreciated. Thank you <3
