Petition to Modernize Campsites

Joe of 718 Outdoors is raising awareness about campsite restrictions

From the petition page:

Currently, these regulations permit 6 individuals, 2 vehicles (with no limitation on size), and 2 tents at each campsite. However, herein lies an inconsistency: the same 6 people are not allowed to each use individual one-person tents. This policy seems outdated, a remnant from a time when camping was primarily about car travel and larger groups using hefty family tents. It inadvertently favors those with more vehicles while denying equitable camping access to individuals with lighter footprints – the hikers and cyclists.

HDMI Cables

I'm working with a Matrix Monarch HDX and got a single error of "incompatible HDMI signal" that I couldn't reproduce.

If I were to replace the 3-4 cables we have, is there a brand that is generally understood to be reliable?

I'm reminded of "Monster Cable vs Coat Hanger" in the 90s and it didn't make a difference. Is cabling today similar? Or are there quality differences in the manufacturing?

Replacement for Matrox Monarch HD

Looking for recommendations on brands/models that will record a single HDMI input (mixed in our Extron) to MP4 on a local SD card or to a network location.

I prefer simplicity and robustness, and preferably a "Record" button on the front that anyone can manage to not screw up.

El Goog's AI response suggested either the HELO Plus or the Epiphan Peral Nano as comparable units, but I have no sense of whether these companies are solid. I recently called Extron and was blown away by their support. I assume I'm not getting that level, but I would like robust support if needed (assuming I would pay for incident support).

I'm completely new to this world, so I won't know any jargon terms!

Thanks!

2015 Surly Disc Trucker mods

What I want:

1x crank with teeth in the upper 40s/lower 50s (currently have a SRAM 1x 42T that a shop put on for me, but I'd like a little higher gearing)

What I know:

Nothing. I have the tools and ability to take existing stuff apart and put it back together, but I don't know about retro-fitting parts and what things I need to account for (like critical dimensions and such)

Questions:

What do I need to look for in a crank?

Are bottom bracket diameters standard?

I hear about "chainline" and wondering what I need to consider with that (I have the stock 9 speed cassette on the Trucker)

Does anyone have any recommendations?

post thought:

I was also thinking about moving to a thru-axel on the front fork and was wondering if I could buy the current Surly Trucker fork - is the steerer tube diameter standard?

How are mileage ratings determined? What are the assumptions?

I live in NYC and rarely drive here. However, when I do drive, it's about 400 miles, highway, to my parents (800 round trip).I do this several times a year and it feels like I burn through tires way faster than the mileage rating.

Currently I have a set of Bridgestone Ecopia 422+ on my 2019 Golf (standard edition) from summer 2023. They're rated for 70,000 miles, but at about 30k currently, I don't see them going another 30-40k.

I was curious what kind of driving is assumed when making these ratings claims.

For my next go around, I'm looking at either of these:

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4

If anyone has any thoughts or opinions (gasp! On the Internet??) I'm all ears!

Create a Picture Control for Negative Film Scanning

  1. how do people build these presets?

  2. I'm using NX Studio, is there a simple "invert" function in here??

I'm just inverting the RBG curves manually and then I go to the "Custom Picture Control" button and click "Export Custom Picture Control" to get the NP3 file which I am able to transfer to my Z6_3.

But when I shoot with the Picture Control selected (I'm using the C-1 slot) the colors aren't inverted - I still have the negative film colors.

It feels like these Custom Controls aren't designed to handle true inverted colors, is that true?

Anyone have a good workflow for this?

Anyone know roughly how much I should expect to pay to upgrade the USB port to USB-C with PD charging? I'm also in NYC, so I expect a markup for that too

Also, is it something I can do without pulling too much apart? I'm fairly savvy with tech stuff - replaced a rear view mirror, and also have re-soldered a drone arm to the mainboard, make my own ethernet cables - I just don't want to have to rip apart major pieces to gain access
