The whole point of a sequel is to be better than the game that came before it and that’s exactly what 2 did. Better graphics, better combat, more weapons, way more suits, way better traversal, and better quality of life features. It’s a no brainer that 2 is the best in the series despite the trolls here on Reddit and the grifters on YouTube say. Newer is always better, it’s common sense.
For all the people waiting for a discount on Screamer, you can now play the demo on Steam
Game has a button that plays the game for you no wonder IGN gave it a 10
I did three races using auto drive and every single one of them I won
First Festival playlist coming soon but I'll miss all cars
So I'm going to miss six months of gameplay, which should be equivalent to about twenty cars. And I still don't understand how it's going to work. With FH5, it was a mess; miss one week and you'd have to wait a year, maybe even two.
Like do I at least have a guarantee that in FH6, I won't have to wait two years for a car to come back?
Perhaps I should wait until the first series ends in June, and see how the players who want to obtain the past exclusive cars manage to do it, of course without the AH, there will always be cars that are too rare.
Ubisoft killing The Crew made it all the way to the European Economic and Social Committee
youtube.comWhy in the name of all that is holy is the letter "E" on its own a forbidden character?
Is it offensive to E shaped individuals will I get banned if I create the letter E out of shapes?
Sorry to all E-ndividuals if it is offensive
Forza puts one in the game, nobody bats an eye
You put one on a 2013 Cadillac XTS Limousine, everyone loses their minds
Why are these rebuilt models still so inaccurate?
The front bumper doesn’t match the skirts. Anyone can immediately tell that the skirts sit significantly lower than the front bumper, which looks inaccurate and ugly.
I haven’t seen any reviewers point this out.
A Not-So-Brief Analysis of Forza Horizon 4's Change of Public Perception
Introduction
Forza Horizon is one of the most critically acclaimed racing game series currently active, with one of the biggest fanbases out there; but it isn’t free of critique.
Horizon 4 and 5 in particular have been the biggest targets of criticism from more diehard racing game fans and, later down in their lifecycles, by the general public.
One thing that’s always intrigued me though (and that isn’t exclusive to this franchise) is just how the public perception of Horizon 4 has done a complete switch to the positive side, whereas Horizon 5’s has worsened considerably with time.
Why does it intrigue me? Because both of these games are incredibly similar in terms of structure, handling, and style. So much so that it’s a running joke in the community that the franchise hasn’t really changed since Horizon 3. So much so that so many of the major criticisms that people make towards Horizon 5 also apply for Horizon 4; yet it feels like people turn a blind eye to them nowadays, despite them being made constantly when 4 was the latest game, which is, to say the least, kinda silly.
Following are some of the main targets of criticism in FH4 back in the day:
Main targets of criticism
- Campaign
- Lack of progression
- Cheating Drivatars
- NPC dialogue
- Wheelspins
- Map
- Location
- Lack of tighter roads
- Lack of elevation
- Lack of biome variety
- Lack of a modern city
- Lack of car-centric infrastructure (race tracks, parking areas, drag strips, mountain roads, gas stations, etc.)
- Winter
- Multiplayer
- FOMO
- Bad and slow connectivity
- Lobbies
- Broken ranked multiplayer
- Meta builds/cars
- Cheaters
- Cars
- Lack of customization options
- Car audio
- Lack of ‘regular’ cars
- Outdated car models
- Miscellaneous
- Soundtrack
- Lego DLC
Some of these I got from my memory of being part of the community back then, but most of them are also present in HokiHoshi’s FH5 wishlist video, which I think is the biggest and best receipt I can bring out for my argument, as the wishlist was made entirely out of player suggestions. And I also think they speak by themselves, since you don’t have to dig too deep to find criticism like these being thrown at Horizon 5 nowadays, but ignored when it comes to Horizon 4.
Why is it like this?
Pinpointing an exact reason for why we see this is simply impossible, but I think I have a few plausible explanations that aren’t just ‘people simply liked 4 more than 5’ or ‘5’s map sucks’.
Horizon 4 was their first Forza game. While I think Horizon 3 is the first ‘mainstream’ game of the series, FH4 is the one that really blew up and introduced the series to a massive contingent of people. I think I say for most that the first experience of a Horizon game is an absolute dopamine overdose: there’s really nothing like it in the market right now. When you go to another game after already having experienced part of what it offers, the thrill wears down faster than it did before.
Nostalgia. Horizon 4 is almost 8 years old, people have made dozens of memories and dedicated hundreds of hours to it, especially during the period where the pandemic had boomed. Nostalgia is almost inevitable in this scenario.
Burnout. Horizon 5 released in 2021 and has had, by far, the biggest lifespan of the Horizon series, with its last major DLC (Rally Adventure) coming out in 2023. Many people eventually got tired of it or felt like they did everything that they wanted to and just moved on, or played it so much that they got burnt out.
When you count all of these together, I think the picture becomes clearer: players have already experienced the core experience of Horizon in the 4th game, so it doesn’t excite them as much in the sequel. Because of that, the shortcomings become clearer and people feel burned out faster, whereas nostalgia works as rose tinted glasses for their first game, hiding the flaws and highlighting the good moments.
Closing thoughts
I have to make it very clear that I don’t dislike Horizon 4: I’ve sunk over 900 hours in it throughout its lifespan and I don’t regret it one bit. The things that the Horizon franchise excels cater really hard to my specific taste in racing games, and FH4 is a very meaningful game to me, just like the whole series. My purpose also isn’t to make you start disliking these games, you can think whatever you want about them.
But what I wanted to do is maybe spark a conversation about something I’ve seen in this community for years already and, even if unlikely, I wouldn’t doubt seeing this switch of public opinion again with Horizon 5 a few years down the line. Feel free to agree, disagree or add something to the discussion, I want to see what others think about this.
Why does Matt looks like he's holding his shit
Racing games / Game design : "If I would only have millions of dollars..."
I really wonder how many of you relate to this.
What happened to street racing games?
If I only had millions of dollars... and got to make my own game, I would make it:
1. Very deep and rich story
- In which you would care about characters and things that are happening.
- More subtle tone for the most part, not the later F&F space/Avengers shit.
- I would also involve some love story/stories in there. Gamers are still just people and have emotions. That would amplify the shit out of that game (the first thing that relates to this which comes to my mind is the Mass Effect series. This alone gave so much more to the overall story in the sense of emotional attachment.)
- Getting back to the game aching with wonder about what will happen next in the story. Late-night drives, texting characters, rivalries, trust, betrayal, garage conversations, road trips, dangerous races, car meets, random side stories, hard choices.
2. Very slow or at least slower progression
- You get an ultimately better sense of reward and achievement, and you would care more about cars you win/get and get to know them better. Not like these days where they will hurl supercars at you after the first race BECAUSE you played it and probably crashed through the whole race... the cost of cars would be MUCH higher so you would have to do a little grind to save money and buy them.
3. Harder overall
- Meaning you don't get to win every race, at least until the time you get a very good hang of it, and not like in many games like The Crew 2 where the AI opponents are soooo garbage that after 3 seconds in the race you are "racing" alone...
4. Thinner lanes
- I mean in the last Forza and Crew games the lanes are so wide that you could literally fit two and a half of your car in there... and when you add the opposite direction you get an airfield runway, not a road.
- That way you would have to drive more carefully and be aware of your speed and cornering or you would easily end up in a lamp or a ditch, which would add TENSION.
5. Damage to the cars
- It would not have to be so realistic that when you bump a curb you lose a wheel and you are finished for the race, but at least some sort of damage to the car so you would have to be more cautious, as every damage would cost you repairs and give you a disadvantage in performance if you hit something critical.
- Most importantly it would add more TENSION to every race. (The GRID series came to my mind just now.)
6. **** the festivals...
I don't know who wanted it or why. But I'm disappointed with this approach. You start as a tourist but:
"HEY THERE NEWBORN STAR! Let's give you a 68k car BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IN YOU! And you can keep it of course because we are all millionaires here and really don't know what to do with our money! --- fast forward 5 minutes after the first race --- OH MY GOD YOU NAILED IT! You definitely earned these 3 supercars worth 2.7 million for free and in addition let's give you 100k credits so you have some coffee money! ALSO spin this wheel of fortune and have a chance of winning a skin/parts!"
- Don't really remember if it was Forza or Crew that did this but I remember in that moment I was looking at the monitor and was like "what in Christ is happening here?". My opinion on the future progression system and motivation to go on after the first race felt like "WHAT progression". If they pushed it a little more I'm afraid I would get a car for free just for going to the main menu...
Screw the argument that these days the player base is different. What do you say to, for example, Elden Ring? It's hard but in the end people love it. Maybe not the whole globe but enough that it got Game of the Year. Not to mention survival games. People end up loving the game even if in the beginning it's frustrating and hard. And I know not all of them would like a game like this, but if at least tens of thousands of people loved it I would be happy. It would not be the first time where a not-so-accessible game wins the hearts of many players and this alone would create marketing for itself so then more simple players would give it a chance.
I say let's get back again to underground culture, dirty streets, police, not the festivals, influencers, instant rewards and constant positivity vibes.
Optional, but no FAST TRAVEL. If you want to get somewhere, DRIVE.
I'm writing this here firstly to know if there is anyone who relates to at least something from this.
And lastly maybe in a naive hope that maybe someday this will get to the right developer or millionaire and it will become reality 😃
And it would be game from the heart and not business.
I was wondering... where is neon lighting tuning ?
Isnt JDM is famous for its unique love to toxic colors and neon lighting?
But FH6 Street racing feels so bland
