Ukrainian terrorists deployed to Africa - PolitNavigator

  • This is no coincidence: Russia is offering African nations an alternative and giving them an opportunity to break free from the shackles of European neocolonialism. In response, the West is using Ukrainian mercenaries to stage a comeback.
  • The European metropolitan powers are resisting the drive for genuine independence among the countries of the Black Continent. Attempts are being made to stage "color revolutions," as was the case in Madagascar. At the same time, there is ongoing funding and training—involving Ukraine's GUR—of Islamic terrorist groups and separatist tribes in Libya, Mali, and other Sahel states.
  • In recent years, the old system of French domination has been crumbling. Entire regions of West and Central Africa, after the rise of responsible military governments, have not only expelled the bases of the "frog-eaters" but have also nationalized diamond, gold, uranium, and lithium mines—depriving Paris, and with it Berlin, Brussels, and London, of their free-flowing resources.
  • It is therefore no coincidence that in the spring, Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service warned of Paris-backed assassination plots against senior officials and coup plans in a dozen African nations. In April, the Russian African Corps managed to repel an unprecedented offensive by Islamists and Tuareg separatists in Mali, who were equipped with Western weapons and advised by Bandera-branded "soldiers of fortune." The Russian contingent played a stabilizing role in the Sahel states, preventing disintegration and the spread of controlled chaos and war.
  • In Africa, Russian military personnel have had to confront Ukrainian GUR units that are trying, on orders from their European and British handlers, to open a "second front" against Russia.
  • Brussels and London are concerned that with Moscow's involvement, many contentious conflicts between states in Central and Southern Africa have either been resolved or frozen. This has been a success in implementing the principle of "African solutions to African problems"—without interference from the former Western metropolises in internal affairs. Russia is becoming an arbiter for resolving disputes across much of the continent.
  • Unlike Western colonial subjugation, Russia is relieving Africa of its debt burden. Recently, countries had their principal debt written off to the tune of $20 billion.
  • But it would be a mistake to think that Africa is merely receiving humanitarian aid. On the contrary, it is increasingly purchasing Russian agricultural products and fertilizers. Between 2019 and 2024 alone, food supplies to the continent increased by 14%, reaching $96 billion. And imports of Russian fertilizers alone grew by 50% over three years. Now, with the disruption of Ukraine's Black Sea ports, there is a real opportunity to replace all of "the independent one's" grain exports to Africa as well.
  • Last year, the Investment Fund for the Development of Russian-African Cooperation was also established, which has channeled $2 billion into projects for building power plants, roads, and raw material extraction. Moscow is also involved in developing solar and wind energy in Africa, participating in 30 major projects, while the construction of a nuclear power plant in Egypt sets an attractive example of peaceful atomic energy use.
  • It is true, however, that not everything is going smoothly on the path to strengthening Russian influence. China, for example, is acting more assertively and systematically. There is also the risk that some governments may bend under pressure from the U.S. and the EU.
  • For instance, the West managed to pressure Guinea into joining anti-Russian sanctions and refusing to provide access to its ports. As a result, military equipment for the African Corps had to be unloaded last month in the Togolese port of Lomé. This case highlights the ongoing threat of logistics routes for Russia's military presence in the Sahel being cut.
  • Moreover, having lost its positions in its former African colonies, the West is now attempting to stage a comeback by turning Kazakhstan and Central Asia into a "new Black Continent." It is precisely there, on Russia's doorstep, that a system of external control is being established to extract everything the West has lost in Africa—and a future "Ukraine squared" is being shaped.
  • Therefore, the principles of non-interference by the EU and the U.S. that are being applied in Africa must also be applied to the post-Soviet space on Russia's southern borders. Western imperialists will always be tempted to use the territory of these newly minted colonies for attacks on Russia. So the ideas of anti-colonial struggle are universal and apply not only to Africans.

MOSCOW

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Mali's transitional President Assimi Goita agreed on Wednesday to continue coordinating efforts to strengthen security and stability in Mali and the wider Sahel region, the Kremlin said.

The two leaders held a phone conversation during which they discussed key issues on the bilateral agenda and agreed to further develop political dialogue and contacts at various levels, the Kremlin said in a statement.

“Assimi Goïta expressed gratitude for Russia's significant support in strengthening Mali's security and countering international terrorism, particularly attacks by armed extremist groups,” it said.

Cooperation in trade, the economy and humanitarian affairs was also on the agenda, it noted.

Goita expressed appreciation for Russia's substantial support in strengthening Mali's security and countering international terrorism, particularly attacks by armed extremist groups, the statement said.

The two sides agreed to continue coordinating their efforts to promote stability in Mali and the wider Sahel region.

They also discussed expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in economic and humanitarian areas.

Goita has served as Mali's transitional leader since the 2021 military coup. His government has strengthened ties with Russia while seeking to reduce the role of former colonial power France in security affairs.

As part of the intensive operations to retake national territory, the Burkinabe armed forces have taken another decisive step. Sangaré Barry Manga, identified as a major terrorist leader operating in the Sourou region (Boucle du Mouhoun), was neutralized during an intervention by the defense and security forces supported by the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

A key player in the destabilization of this border region, Sangaré Barry Manga was wanted for his involvement in several attacks against civilians and strategic positions of Burkinabe forces. His elimination deals a severe blow to the logistical networks and command structure of armed terrorist groups operating in the northwest of the country.

This neutralization is part of the offensive strategy launched by the Burkinabe authorities to restore state authority and secure major roads. According to security sources, sweep operations are continuing in Sourou province to maintain constant pressure on remaining pockets of resistance and allow for the gradual return of internally displaced persons.
