Text backgrounds are coming: what styles would you want?

Working on a new text feature: customizable backgrounds behind text blocks. Think highlighter effects, pill-shaped labels, or subtle emphasis behind your headline copy. Shoutout to u/ThePattio who posted a DIY version of this in the sub today.

Current controls (per text block)

  • Background color
  • Horizontal padding
  • Vertical padding
  • Corner radius

Testing now and planning to rollout soon but wanted to get your feedback first: Any additional controls needed? Gradient fills? Opacity control? Drop shadows? Something else entirely?

Video above shows it in action.

First launch using ButterKit

Hey 👋

did my first launch using ButterKit. Open to any feedback. I did cutouts manually before the callout feature, so I’ll look into using callouts in the next iteration, although I still think I’d need to do some screenshots manually since those are special screenshots with some content removed so the expanded callout image looks better.

Zach already added quite a few things I needed 😄, but while working on this app I think what I was missing the most is either support for vector images or support for basic shapes like rectangles/rounded rectangles to create the word highlight effect I need.

Also, I think I’m hitting a bug where the default en-US screenshots override my en-GB ones. Here’s an example video. You can see how screenshot changes once and the goes back to default locale. The structure is en-US/iPhone 17 Pro and en-GB/iPhone 17 Pro.

Callout or no callout?

Thoughts? Opinions? Current App Store screenshots do not include callouts. Thoughts? Thanks!

Bug: Metadata translations don't preserve double line breaks

While generating translations for my app's description, I noticed that the double line breaks aren't being preserved across the translations. Double line breaks are pretty common in app descriptions for paragraphing/adding features - right now it all looks squished together in the other locales.

I'm not sure if it's an issue with the model I'm using (Opus 4.7), or whether it's to do with Butterkit itself.

I wish I was aware of the new Callout" feature!

Man, oh man! I could not believe this feature was already out (I only use Butterkit when doing screenshots so I miss it) Anyway I will try added on my next app update! As, you usually a monster time saver when doing screenshots. Thanks again for this tool!

Here my latest creation.

A fun (not medical looking) AAC App for kids 3-8. It helps children speaking when they are non verbal. It was pleasure to work on it. I also had a fun doing the screenshots with ButterKit.

The app is free for the 3x3 and 4x4 grid. You can upgrade to get the 5x6 grid, quick phrases and categories.

Please let me know if I should change anything on the screenshots or something that could help with conversion.

Thank you in advance!

ps: IF any of you knows of a kid that could use this app (non verbal), let me know and it will be my pleasure to provide them with a free code to the app.

ps:

Feature Request: Translate App Name, Subtitle and Keywords

At the moment, the metadata available for translation is What's New, Promotional Text and Description. It would be amazing if you could also add the app name, subtitle and keywords to this.

As someone who's starting from scratch and primarily using Butterkit to translate my listing into all the 40+ languages at once, the experience isn't complete and it's still a pain to translate and update the app name, subtitle and keywords into every language. In fact I still have to depend on another tool to do this, which I am reluctant to pay extra for since I know that Butterkit would be able to support it one day 😉

By the way, thank you for this amazing tool - it's easily one of the best software tools that I have purchased lately and I can see that a lot of thought has been put into the design.

How has ButterKit helped your workflow?

Hey everyone! I'm building out a new success stories section on the ButterKit website and I'd love to feature real developers and links to real apps.

If ButterKit has saved you time, simplified your App Store screenshot workflow, or made localization less painful, I'd love to hear about it.

Drop a comment with what it's done for you and I'll reach out about featuring your quote and a link to your app on the site. Short or long, doesn't matter. Just want to highlight fellow devs who have helped shape it!

Needs a set of eyes or a few to check updated screenshots

I'm updating my screenshots to have callouts show which part of the device screenshots users should look at.

The design matches my app's clean aesthetic but I feel there are too many words though I don't know what to cut. I'm trying to increase my conversion by appealing to many types of users who need more flexible alarms as that is one recurring theme in my reviews and support emails.

Can you please let me know any ideas?

14 languages, >400 screenshots, need a proper Butterkit automation approach?

My app is available worldwide and I have downloads from >56 countries. Until now I’ve been using Fastlane to generate screenshots and then use those in a template. They are very dull but high quality. I have looked into other tools, but 99% require manual work. With Fastlane I add JSON language copy, new UITest and let the automation do its thing.

My question is, how to approach this with Butterkit?
Is there a way I can create a template and it then just inserts the locale screenshots and uses the json locale text per screen?

I just saw the mcp being available. A lot of the automation is messing up per device, so I had to fine tune iPad, iPhone, Pro, Max..

Also when I run this with Fastlane it does take some time, but I can save the screenshots, so then I can focus on the App Preview Copy to improve and skip the screenshots each time. The copy is in JSON format stored like ‘screen_01:’ object with ‘title’, ‘subtitle’.. so I can adjust it according to the design of that screen.

With Fastlane I can’t get the overlayed screenshots between multple screens and also every small change is tedious. Making it quite boring in the end.

My question is mainly, having screenshots per locale and copy per locale, can I create a template and run some script to import those easily with butterkit? Or should I go with a different approach?

Thanks. 🙏
