New in ButterKit v2.2.05:

  • Support for Finder Quick Look: Preview your projects directly in macOS Finder. Select a .butterkit file and press Spacebar (or use the preview pane) to see what's inside without opening the app
  • UI improvements

Small update but hopefully makes using ButterKit a bit smoother!

Available now in v2.0.06: Export device-only artboards, one-click Callout style sync, and more

Thanks to everyone in this subreddit and Discord for your help getting these improvements in! Update v.2.0.06 is available now for the direct version (soon on the Mac App Store):

  • New "Include text & images" toggle: export artboards with only the 3D devices, leaving out any text, logos, and images. Useful for websites and marketing posts. (thanks u/getfitbee)
  • Copy a Callout's style: right-click a device callout name in the inspector and choose "Copy style to all Callouts" (thanks u/Sherlocked_)
  • Set a default Callout style: applies to new Callouts across all projects (saved as a user preference)
  • Undo now restores translated text correctly: fixed an issue where undoing wouldn't properly bring back a text block's translated content (thanks u/Neolitix)

Please keep the feedback coming. More info on the website: https://butterkit.app

Any interest in marketing-sized templates?

Considering adding some common marketing sizes to ButterKit Templates. Is there enough interest in this, and what sizes are folks looking for? How would you use these?

ButterKit 2 beta is available, would love your feedback

V2 beta is a major update and now available for download! Backwards-compatible with V1, free for all existing users, and requiring macOS 26+ going forward. If you have a minute, give it a try and let me know your feedback.

(New here? ButterKit is a native macOS app for App Store screenshots, localization, and metadata uploads)

Performance

  • The rendering and compositing engine leans harder on SwiftUI in V2, and you'll probably feel it immediately. Everything is faster, smoother, more responsive. It also pauses properly when ButterKit is backgrounded, saving power when inactive.
  • Improved RAM usage
  • Animations and transitions have been tuned
  • App Store Connect uploads are much faster -- improved batching logic and parallel processing
  • Many, many tweaks. In general: much more butter

Features

  • More intuitive and polished canvas: editing is faster, artboards are more organized. Double-click artboard titles to rename right on the canvas.
  • Screenshot callouts can now be customized per localization (thanks Manuel, u/Lemon8or88 and u/byaruhaf)
  • MCP server is now more reliable (thanks u/Habitoti)

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where linking a folder of localized screenshots would sometimes show the wrong images (thanks bitcontrol)

Compatibility

  • Fully backwards-compatible with V1 .butterkit files
  • These performance improvements largely stem from newer APIs only available in macOS 26+, so ButterKit 2 requires macOS 26 or newer. About 5% of users are still on macOS 15, and ButterKit 1.9 still works and will remain available for download.

Keep me posted if you run into any issues! Will roll out later this week via the app updater as well.

Coming soon: edit text directly on the canvas (plus smoother everything)

Really excited to share an update to the text editing features in ButterKit. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time but it required restructuring the text and canvas engine (which also brought performance/RAM improvements, will share more on that soon).

Some of the improvements coming:

  • Edit text, position, and padding directly on the canvas (so much faster)
  • Smoother performance by moving more of the heavy lifting to SwiftUI
  • Reduced RAM usage
  • More butter all around, lots of UI tweaks and fixes

Want to try it early? Let me know in the comments or DM and I'll add you to the beta.
