CIMA SCS August 2026 Kwirtmak: Stop Revising Everything and Start Practising Decisions

With the CIMA SCS August 2026 Kwirtmak exam getting very close, I think there is a point where more revision stops being the best use of your time.

You probably already know what SAF is.

You probably know the advantages and disadvantages of an acquisition.

You probably know DCF, P/E valuation, risk registers, stakeholder analysis and the Balanced Scorecard.

The question now is:

Can you actually use them when the unseen gives you a messy business problem?

That is what I would focus on in the final days.

For example, imagine the unseen tells you that Kwirtmak has an opportunity to acquire a smaller technology company.

Do not immediately start writing everything you know about acquisitions.

First ask:

Why would Kwirtmak want this company?

Maybe it provides technology Kwirtmak does not currently have.

Maybe it gives access to a new market.

Maybe it strengthens R&D.

Maybe it helps Kwirtmak respond to competitive pressure.

Then move to the risks.

Could Kwirtmak overpay?

Are the forecast synergies realistic?

Could key employees leave after the acquisition?

Could the cultures clash?

What does due diligence need to investigate?

Then think financially.

How should Kwirtmak value the target?

How will the acquisition be funded?

What happens to gearing, liquidity and shareholder value?

And finally:

Would I recommend it to the Board?

That one scenario has already brought together E3, P3 and F3 without forcing them into separate sections.

The same approach works for almost anything CIMA could give us.

If Kwirtmak is considering automation, do not write everything you know about technology.

Ask whether it improves cost, quality, capacity and competitiveness. Then consider implementation risk, employees, cyber risk, investment cost and return.

If Kwirtmak is entering a new international market, do not dump PESTEL into the answer.

Ask whether there is genuine demand, whether Kwirtmak has the capabilities to enter, what political and currency risks exist, what investment is required and whether the expected return justifies the risk.

If the issue is a new CEO or Board appointment, do not automatically say an external candidate brings fresh ideas.

Ask what skills Kwirtmak actually needs and then judge the candidates against those requirements.

If the issue is sustainability, do not stop at saying it improves reputation.

Ask what it costs, whether customers value it, whether it reduces risk or waste, whether regulation is changing and whether it supports Kwirtmak long-term competitive position.

This is what I would practise now.

Take a blank page and give yourself a random Kwirtmak scenario.

Then force yourself to answer:

1. What is the actual issue?

2. Why does it matter to Kwirtmak?

3. What are the strategic implications?

4. What could go wrong?

5. What are the financial implications?

6. Which stakeholders matter?

7. What would I recommend to the Board?

If you can do that quickly, you are preparing for the actual Strategic Case Study rather than preparing to reproduce textbook knowledge.

One other thing I would practise this week is making a decision.

Students sometimes analyse both sides reasonably well and then finish with something like:

There are advantages and disadvantages, so Kwirtmak should consider both options carefully.

That is usually not very helpful to a Board.

If the evidence supports one option, recommend it.

Then explain the conditions, risks and mitigation around your recommendation.

At this stage, I would spend more time doing this than trying to memorise another 20 models.

For anyone who wants it, I have put the wider CIMA SCS August 2026 Kwirtmak final revision topics together here:

https://keystoneacademia.com/cima-scs-august-2026-kwirtmak-final-revision-important-topics/

For those sitting the exam, what are you spending most of your final revision time on now: mocks, answer planning, Kwirtmak facts or technical revision?

CIMA SCS August 2026 Kwirtmak: 7 Risks and Strategic Issues I Would Not Ignore Before the Exam Part 2

Following my first post on the CIMA SCS August 2026 Kwirtmak exam, here is Part 2.

Part 1 focused mainly on competitive performance, R&D, M&A, valuation, digital transformation, funding and dividend policy.

For Part 2, I want to focus more on the risk, governance and stakeholder side of Kwirtmak.
Again, these are not predictions. I am not saying these topics will appear in the unseen.

They are simply areas I would want to be comfortable applying if they do.

1. Cybersecurity and intellectual property

This would be high on my P3 revision list.
For Kwirtmak, cyber risk is not just about someone stealing customer passwords.

This is a technology and manufacturing business. A serious cyber incident could potentially affect:

Intellectual property
Product designs
Customer information
Manufacturing systems
Normal business operations

So if a cyber scenario appears, I would not stop at:
There is a risk of reputational damage.

Think about the actual business consequences.
Could production stop?
Could commercially sensitive technology be stolen?
Could customers lose confidence?
Could Kwirtmak face regulatory consequences?
How quickly could operations recover?
Then think about the controls: access management, backups, employee training, network security, supplier controls, incident response and business continuity.

The important thing is to link the control back to the specific risk.

2. Supply chain risk

Kwirtmak manufactures sophisticated commercial 3D printers and operates internationally, so supply chain resilience is another area I would not ignore.
An unseen could potentially introduce a supplier failure, material shortage, quality problem, logistics disruption or major increase in input costs.

Possible responses could include:
Multiple suppliers
Alternative materials
Regional sourcing
Long-term supplier relationships
Supplier audits
Additional safety inventory
But every solution has a downside.

Holding more inventory could improve resilience, but it also ties up working capital and increases inventory risk.

Using several suppliers reduces dependency, but Kwirtmak could lose some purchasing power.
That trade-off is what I would discuss rather than simply saying Kwirtmak should find another supplier.

3. Geopolitical and foreign exchange risk
Because Kwirtmak operates globally, political and economic developments could create significant problems.

Think about:
Tariffs
Trade restrictions
Political instability
Exchange-rate movements
International supply-chain disruption
If the unseen gives us a problem in one country, I would avoid writing a generic PESTEL answer.

Instead, ask:
What exactly is Kwirtmak exposed to?
What happens to revenue, costs or cash flow?
Can production or sourcing be moved?
Can the currency exposure be hedged?
For foreign exchange specifically, I would be comfortable with forwards, futures, options, money-market hedges and natural hedging.
But I would only recommend an instrument after understanding the actual exposure.

4. Leadership, CEO succession and Board capability
I think this could create a very good Strategic Case Study requirement.
Suppose Kwirtmak needs a new CEO or Board member.

The easy answer is:
An external candidate will bring fresh ideas.
That is not enough.
I would first ask what Kwirtmak actually needs at this point.
The company is facing declining financial performance while Breskko is growing. It also operates in a rapidly developing technology market.

Does Kwirtmak need stronger commercial leadership?
Technology experience?
International experience?
Someone who has successfully managed strategic change?
Or is continuity and deep knowledge of Kwirtmak more important?
Once you identify the capabilities required, you can properly compare internal and external candidates.
That makes the recommendation much stronger.

5. Corporate governance and ethics
I would definitely revise this, but focus on application rather than definitions.
Ethics can appear inside a normal-looking business decision.
Imagine a director strongly recommends a supplier, acquisition target or adviser where there is a personal connection.
Now we potentially have issues involving:
Integrity
Objectivity
Conflict of interest
Professional competence and due care
Professional behaviour
Do not spend half the answer defining the CIMA ethical principles.

Explain what the ethical issue means for Kwirtmak and what should be done about it.
Governance is similar.
Think about whether the Board has the right information, expertise, independence and controls to make and monitor major strategic decisions.

6. Sustainability and ESG
Kwirtmak wants to be a sustainable provider of additive manufacturing solutions, so sustainability is already part of the case.
An unseen could potentially involve environmental investment, recycling, energy consumption, materials, suppliers or sustainability claims.

I would avoid stopping at:
This will improve Kwirtmak reputation.
Go further.
Could the investment reduce waste or energy costs?
Could customers value it?
Could it strengthen differentiation?
Could regulation make the investment necessary anyway?
What will it cost?
Will customers actually pay more?
Could Kwirtmak face greenwashing accusations if its claims are not supported by evidence?
The strongest answer will balance sustainability with commercial reality.

7. Stakeholders and strategic change
This is probably something I would use across almost every requirement rather than treating it as a separate chapter.
If Kwirtmak makes a major decision, somebody will be affected.
Potential stakeholders include:
Shareholders
Employees
Customers
Suppliers
Lenders
Government
Regulators
Local communities
But do not simply list them.

Ask:
Who actually matters in this scenario?
What do they want?
How much power do they have?
Could they help or obstruct implementation?

For example, imagine Kwirtmak introduces significant automation.
Shareholders might welcome lower costs.
Employees could worry about job security.
Customers may care about quality and reliability.
Management may need employees with completely different skills.

The Board therefore needs to manage the strategic change, not simply approve the investment.
One more thing I would keep in mind: scenario planning

I would not necessarily revise this as a huge separate topic, but it can be useful in many Kwirtmak scenarios.

If management presents a major investment based on one forecast, challenge it.
What happens if demand is 20% lower?
What if implementation is delayed?
What if costs increase?
What if Breskko responds aggressively?
What if expected acquisition synergies do not materialise?

A best case, most likely case and worst case can help the Board understand whether the proposal remains acceptable when assumptions change.

Finally, do not forget the risk of doing nothing
Students are normally quite good at identifying the risks of a proposal.
An acquisition is risky.
New technology is risky.
Entering another market is risky.
Increasing investment is risky.
But what happens if Kwirtmak does nothing?
Kwirtmak revenue and profit have fallen while Breskko has grown.

So the real comparison may not be:
Risky proposal vs no risk
It may actually be:
Risk of changing vs risk of continuing on the current path
That is a much more strategic way to look at the decision.

Going into the CIMA Strategic Case Study August 2026 exam,

I would keep a simple approach in mind:

What has happened?
Why does it matter specifically to Kwirtmak?
What could go wrong?
What is the financial impact?
Who is affected?
What can management do about it?

And finally:
What would I recommend to the Board?
You do not need to mention E3, P3 and F3 in every paragraph.
You need to think using E3, P3 and F3 and apply that knowledge to Kwirtmak.

That is the difference.
For those sitting the CIMA SCS August 2026 Kwirtmak exam, which risk would concern you most if you were sitting on the Kwirtmak Board right now?
Cyber risk, supply chain disruption, competitive pressure, or something else?

CIMA SCS August 2026 Kwirtmak Exam Next Week: What Should You Focus On Now?

If you are sitting the CIMA Strategic Case Study August 2026 exam next week, I would not spend the final few days trying to relearn the whole E3, P3 and F3 syllabus.

At this stage, the priority should be Kwirtmak application, strategic judgement and exam practice.

The pre-seen puts you in the role of a senior manager in Kwirtmak's finance function, reporting directly to the Board and advising on special projects and strategic matters. Kwirtmak is a quoted company producing customized commercial 3D printers.

That role should guide how you write every answer.

Watch Top 50 Topics: https://youtu.be/2V44kL-DlLU?si=Yraj60gWw9Nd6YmO

Here is what I would focus on.

1. Know the Kwirtmak story, not every sentence of the pre-seen

You should be able to explain Kwirtmak without opening the pre-seen.

Know:

  • business model and sources of competitive advantage
  • commercial 3D printing industry
  • customers and markets
  • products and technologies
  • Board and governance
  • principal risks
  • sustainability position
  • financial performance
  • Breskko comparison
  • share price and investor concerns

Do not memorize paragraphs.

Understand why each fact could matter in an unseen scenario.

2. Financial performance is a major area to understand

Kwirtmak's numbers create several strategic questions.

Revenue fell from E$2,856.6m to E$2,320.0m.

Profit for the year fell from E$1,142.4m to E$810.6m.

At the same time, competitor Breskko increased revenue from E$2,744.6m to E$3,016.0m and increased profit.

Kwirtmak also reduced research expenditure from E$285m to E$270m while Breskko increased its research spending.

Do not just memorize these figures.

Ask:

Why is Kwirtmak declining while Breskko is growing?

Possible unseen issues could therefore require you to think about competitive position, innovation, R&D, pricing, customer needs, investment, restructuring or strategic growth.

3. Growth strategy

Be comfortable evaluating different ways Kwirtmak could grow:

  • organic growth
  • acquisition
  • strategic alliance
  • joint venture
  • product development
  • market development
  • geographic expansion
  • entry into new 3D printing applications

Do not automatically recommend the fastest option.

Use Suitability, Acceptability and Feasibility.

Does it fit Kwirtmak?

Will shareholders and other stakeholders accept the risk and return?

Does Kwirtmak have the finance, people and capabilities to execute it?

4. Mergers and acquisitions

I would definitely revise M&A properly.

Be ready for:

  • strategic rationale
  • target selection
  • valuation
  • due diligence
  • acquisition funding
  • synergies
  • overpayment
  • goodwill
  • cultural integration
  • employee retention
  • systems integration
  • post acquisition performance

Remember that a strategically attractive target can still be a bad acquisition if Kwirtmak pays too much.

Think E3 + P3 + F3 together.

5. Digital strategy and new technology

Kwirtmak is already operating inside a technology-driven industry.

Think about:

  • digital transformation
  • AI and automation
  • data analytics
  • cybersecurity
  • new digital business models
  • technology investment
  • digital skills
  • employee resistance
  • leadership of change
  • customer experience

If the unseen introduces an exciting new technology, do not automatically recommend it.

Ask whether there is customer demand, strategic fit and financial value.

Then consider implementation and cyber risks.

6. Market-led versus resource-based strategy

This is a useful strategic tension for Kwirtmak.

A resource-based strategy asks:

What is Kwirtmak particularly good at?

A market-led strategy asks:

What does the market now want?

With Kwirtmak's performance weakening while Breskko grows, the Board should be prepared to challenge whether existing capabilities are still aligned with customer requirements.

7. Leadership and succession

Be prepared for scenarios involving:

  • CEO replacement
  • internal versus external appointment
  • succession planning
  • Board composition
  • leadership capabilities
  • change management
  • commercial versus technical expertise

Do not simply say an external CEO brings fresh ideas.

Ask what capabilities Kwirtmak needs for its next strategic phase and then evaluate candidates against those requirements.

8. Stakeholders

Stakeholder analysis can improve almost any SCS answer.

Think about:

  • shareholders
  • employees
  • customers
  • suppliers
  • lenders
  • government
  • regulators
  • communities
  • Board members

But do not dump a stakeholder list into the exam.

Ask:

Who is affected by this specific decision?

What do they want?

How much power do they have?

Could they help or obstruct implementation?

9. Risk management

For P3, I would prioritise risks that can easily become strategic scenarios for Kwirtmak:

  • cybersecurity
  • supply chain disruption
  • technology obsolescence
  • R&D failure
  • geopolitical risk
  • foreign exchange exposure
  • interest rate risk
  • operational disruption
  • reputation
  • business continuity
  • acquisition and integration risk

Always move from:

Risk - impact - mitigation - residual risk

Do not stop after identifying the risk.

10. Funding and financial strategy

Be ready to advise the Board on funding major investments.

Revise:

  • debt versus equity
  • cost of capital
  • gearing
  • interest cover
  • financial flexibility
  • dividend policy
  • investment appraisal
  • business valuation
  • foreign exchange risk
  • interest rate risk

Kwirtmak already has E$1,350m of long-term borrowings, so any major new investment or acquisition should be considered in the context of its existing financial position.

11. Dividend versus reinvestment

This could create an interesting shareholder conflict.

Kwirtmak paid E$432.2m in dividends despite the decline in profitability.

If management needs money for R&D, acquisitions, new technology or debt reduction, should it continue returning significant cash to shareholders?

There is no automatic answer.

Think about investor expectations versus long-term shareholder value.

12. Ethics and governance

Do not neglect ethics because it can be embedded inside an apparently normal business decision.

Prepare:

  • integrity
  • objectivity
  • professional competence and due care
  • confidentiality
  • professional behavior
  • conflicts of interest

Also revise:

  • Board effectiveness
  • NEDs
  • governance
  • risk oversight
  • executive remuneration
  • succession
  • internal controls

Most importantly, apply the ethical principle rather than defining it.

13. Sustainability and ESG

Kwirtmak's vision includes being a sustainable provider of additive manufacturing solutions.

Possible issues include:

  • environmental impact
  • materials and waste
  • energy consumption
  • recycling
  • sustainable suppliers
  • ESG investment
  • stakeholder expectations
  • greenwashing
  • sustainability versus profitability

A good answer should recognise both the commercial benefits and costs.

14. Scenario planning

If an investment depends on uncertain demand, do not rely on one forecast.

Think:

Best case

Most likely case

Worst case

Then ask whether the proposal remains acceptable if assumptions change.

This is especially useful for new technology, acquisitions, new markets and major capital investments.

15. Practice recommendations

This is probably one of the biggest things I would focus on during the final week.

Do not end every answer with:

"Both options have advantages and disadvantages."

You are advising the Board.

Give a recommendation.

A simple structure:

Recommendation

What should Kwirtmak do?

Reason

Why?

Risk

What is the biggest downside?

Mitigation

How should management control it?

That sounds much more like a senior finance professional.

Final week strategy

At this stage I would spend less time passively reading textbooks and more time practising unseen scenarios.

For every scenario, force yourself to ask:

What is the actual issue?

What does the pre-seen tell me?

What is the E3 strategic implication?

What is the P3 risk implication?

What is the F3 financial implication?

Which stakeholders matter?

What should Kwirtmak do?

That is the mindset I would take into the CIMA SCS August 2026 exam.

Do not try to predict the exact unseen.

Prepare yourself to deal with whatever unseen CIMA gives you.

And remember: Kwirtmak facts should support your argument, not replace your argument.

For those sitting next week, what are you focusing on most right now: mocks, pre-seen revision, E3, P3 or F3?

SCS May 26

I hope anyone that took the SCS exam today felt it went well, and good luck to everyone else taking their exams week! Thought I’d give people a giggle with my experience that in my test centre the building work next door was so bad they provided everyone with ear defenders 😅 yes 3 hours of wearing ear defenders…not something I had prepared for!

CIMA Certification

Hi all,

i'm 28 male living in Itlay (Nord) and currently working as a controller in a large multinational company. I'm happy with my role and pay at the moment but i d like to keep learning and growing as a financial professional. So, i've been looking for something that allows me to learn, can be put in the CV and be recognized by employers. Finance Certifications could be the way and CIMA looks to be in line with my interests and career. Can you help me decide? I have some questions, it'd be very appreciated if you can give me some tips and advices:

  1. What do you think about CIMA? Is it worth doing in your opinion?
  2. Is it a credible and recognized financial certification?
  3. Does it make sense to do it if you are not from UK or working for UK company?
  4. For those who did it, would you do it again?

Thanks a lot!
