Introducing "DL ADVANCE"

We are adding "DL ADVANCE" to provide funds to:

  • GROUP 1 students.
  • Only aid is Federal Direct Stafford or Unsub.
  • Enrolled part-time (6-11 FA eligible credits) for fall.
  • Have completed the Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling requirements.

They will receive $450 for 9-11 credits or $300 for 6-8 credits TODAY. Expect an email from me later this afternoon and you can see a DL ADVANCE in MyCSN now.

Has anyone from group 2&3 gotten their FA Advance yet?

I met all the criteria, yet I don’t see anything in my CSN. Maybe we can keep each other updated here?

Let's talk about today's disbursement....

Today's first fall semester disbursement includes all aid types for GROUP 1 students, and will disburse FA ADVANCEs for eligible GROUP 2 / 3 students.

OFA is adding FA ADVANCEs to GROUP 2 and GROUP 3 students this morning; it's a big population (greater than 2,500) for disbursement later today. Our process for assessing and calculating eligibility had to be modified to account for OBBBA changes - so it took longer than usual.

GROUP 1 students:

  • Grants and scholarships are ready.
  • Loans will be considered for disbursement for GROUP 1 students who are registered for 12 or more FA eligible credits.

OFA has made great progress on the Federal Direct Loans issues mentioned on earlier posts, but cannot yet fully calculate the required Schedule of Reduction required for student borrowers enrolled in 6-11 fall credit hours.

For students registered in 6-11 FA eligible credit hours who only have Federal Direct loans (no other financial aid) and the loan amount (after SoR recalculation) is enough to pay the fall bill:

  • OFA is considering these students for a new item called "DL ADVANCE"
  • DL Advance is the GROUP 1 version of FA ADVANCE; those assigned will receive:
    • $450 for 9-11 FA eligible credit hours.
    • $300 for 6-8 FA eligible credit hours.

DL ADVANCE is not new aid; it's an advance on your delayed loan proceeds and will be paid back once your Federal Direct Loan is ready for disbursement.

OFA should be able to disburse less than full-time loans over the next two Wednesdays (8/26 or 9/2).

I hope this is the start of something life-changing for all of you at CSN!

Late enrollment

Hi guys!

I graduated from CSN many moons ago and now my kids are starting up there. My 17/18 year old submitted his application a few weeks ago and hasn't received his NSHE ID yet.

We are going to call the help desk for it but after receiving it, what are the best steps to get him into some courses this semester? Orientation, etc?

Don't complain about helicopter parenting. He had some things he needed to work on after graduation and now he's ready to step out into college. I KNOW how frustrating the admin stuff can be (went to UNLV as well and it was just as frustrating.)

We've filed for FAFSA, need to file for his Chapter 35 benefits (that was part of the delay on my end bc we were waiting on the VA, ETC.)

Can anyone give me a CSN for dummies list of what we need to knock out? Oh, the english test.

My other kid is a transfer so she's a bit ahead of the game. Thanks!

TBA on classes and when to expect them?

Hi, I have like 2 classes that are TBA. It's making me a bit worried since Classes start on the 24th (for some, like me), and they say on 8/24, so I don't know when they'll show their date and times. Maybe any suggestions or something to calm my nerves?

Incoming Freshman

Hi! I’m going to be an incoming freshman this fall, and I was wondering how far apart these classes are from each other. Most of mine are only about 10 minutes apart, so I’m a little nervous about making it to class on time. Is that usually enough time to get across campus?

College Friends/Study Partners

It’s been over 7 years since I’ve been out of high school. This is the first time in a long time that I do “school”. Would love to connect with people.

I’m going for BS in computer science. Planning to transfer to UNLV later on.

Hello I’m looking for a study buddy for my math class. (19 F) This is my second semester at CSN and I attend classes at the Charleston campus! I am incredibly horrible at math, like whatever you’re thinking rn lower it by 3 grade levels. I’m hoping someone out there would be willing to bond over our shared ignorance :) or would like to yap and go over notes between classes. Lmk! I’m a business major btw

How hard is it to get into A&P after fall BIOL 189?

Has anyone taken BIOL 189 in the fall and then tried to get into A&P (BIOL 223) the following spring?
I knew BIOL 189 was a prerequisite for A&P and planned my semesters around that. What I didn’t know until reading the syllabus was that I can’t register for A&P with everyone else because I have to wait until my final BIOL 189 grade posts.
Has anyone been in this position? Were you able to get into A&P for spring, or were most of the classes already full by then?
I cannot waste an entire year because I couldn’t get into one prerequisite course. If this is a common problem, I’m seriously considering dropping this route altogether and going private. I’d rather pay more than lose another year waiting for classes. This is honestly so frustrating
