Liu Xiyu & Gao Mingchen | Poor Boyfriend And Me

Did you like Yoori's Sneak Peek?

Chinese title: 穿成破产太子爷的刁蛮前女友

Ruan Yu finds herself thrown into the role of the “villainous ex-girlfriend” of Lu Chengyun, a once-privileged heir whose family has fallen into bankruptcy. According to the original story, she is supposed to be selfish, cruel, and destined to become a stepping stone in his comeback arc — but Ruan Yu has no interest in following that script.

Instead of tormenting him, she starts rewriting their relationship from the inside: trying to survive the plot, avoid becoming the hated ex, and figure out whether Lu Chengyun is really the cold, ruined young master the story made him out to be. What begins as a forced second chance between an “evil ex” and a fallen prince slowly turns into a messy, sweet battle against fate, misunderstandings, and the original storyline.

* transmigration / bankrupt heir / villainess FL / ex-lovers / rewritten fate

Drama Smackdown: The Kiss Deluxe Edition

Every way to smash two faces in 9:16, plus the cursed ones

Greetings, connoisseurs who can date a drama by its kissing style alone, people who have typed "what episode do they finally kiss" into a search bar with visibly shaking hands, and everyone who has ever watched a chin grab, set their phone face-down, and gone for a short walk to think about their life!

This week on Drama Smackdown we are climbing the entire vertical drama Kiss Ladder, all eight sacred rungs from the chaste forehead peck to the top-shelf felony, and then, because you have been good, we are going off-book into the bonus round: the cursed kisses that don't fit on the ladder but haunt the genre anyway.

TL;DR: The 9:16 format made the kiss the main event, so vertical drama evolved a full taxonomy of face-smashing, each variety tuned to a specific frequency of yearning. Today we rank the core eight by heat, then hand you the four bonus kisses that operate outside the laws of god and man. This is a thirst post with a syllabus.

LEVEL 1: THE FOREHEAD KISS 🥵

He lowers his mouth to her forehead like he's sealing a vow he's too scared to say out loud. No tongue. No agenda. Just a man quietly losing a war with his own feelings, one gentle press at a time. It is the most PG thing in the entire genre and it will still put you on the floor.

Verdict: rated G, hits like an R.

LEVEL 2: THE FISH KISS 🥵

Two sets of closed lips meet and then just stay there. Motionless. Load-bearing awkwardness. You can pinpoint the exact frame where the actor remembers the note "keep it clean." It's the kiss of two people who are contractually attracted to each other and running entirely on vibes and stage fright.

Verdict: less a kiss, more two people politely bumping mouths and praying the scene ends.

 LEVEL 3: THE ALMOST 🥵🥵🥵

The kiss that isn't. Noses graze. Breath tangles. The orchestra loses its entire mind. And then, one atom short of contact, the screen goes black and the app asks for tribute. This is the most profitable non-event in entertainment, the genre's masterstroke: they discovered they could sell you the empty space between two mouths, and you paid without blinking.

Verdict: it did not happen and it wrecked you anyway. Diabolical.

 LEVEL 4: THE SHUT-UP KISS 🥵🥵🥵

She's winning an argument. He responds by kissing her mid-word to end the debate on a technicality. It's manipulation, it's a red flag, it's the reason the scene is trending. The genre knows exactly what it's doing when it makes "he couldn't argue back so he used his mouth" read as swoony instead of alarming.

Verdict: closed a discussion with his lips, opened a thousand fan edits.

LEVEL 5: THE CHIN GRAB 🥵🥵🥵🥵

Two fingers under the jaw, an upward tilt, a low "look at me" that is very much not a request. The lightest touch on the entire ladder and the most dominant, because he isn't gripping her face, he's gripping the whole power balance and quietly adjusting it in his favor.

Verdict: barely any contact, catastrophic amount of authority. A war crime committed with a thumb.

LEVEL 6: THE WALL SLAM 🥵🥵🥵🥵

Now the set participates. Back to the wall, forearm overhead, nowhere left to go but into the kiss. The kabedon is the crown jewel, the moment the building itself becomes his wingman. Aggression, but make it architectural.

Verdict: he brought a wall to a kiss and we all applauded the wall.

LEVEL 7: THE NECK DETOUR 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

The mouth abandons the mouth and heads for the throat. This is the genre's clever workaround for everything it can't legally show you. It can't take you to the bedroom, so it takes you to the collarbone and trusts your imagination to cover the rest. One good neck kiss does the work of an entire deleted scene.

Verdict: they went off-mouth and off the rails. We do not discuss what it did to us.

 LEVEL 8: THE FACE-EATER 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

The final form. Hands in hair, feet leaving the floor, cut called and ignored, two actors who have fully forgotten the crew exists. This is the kiss the ladder was built to reach, the one that crashes the servers and launches the "wait, are they dating in real life" investigation. No notes. No survivors. Just the rewind button and our collective shame.

Verdict: ate, left no crumbs, took our dignity as a tip.

THE BONUS ROUND: KISSES THAT LIVE OUTSIDE THE LAW

Some kisses refuse to sit politely on a ladder. They are chaos agents. Handle with care.

 THE CRYING KISS 🥵🥵🥵😭

One or both parties are sobbing, and they kiss anyway, salt and desperation everywhere. It should be a mess. Instead it's the most emotionally devastating entry in the whole enterprise, because now the thirst is wearing grief as a perfume. You came for the heat and left needing a professional.

Verdict: hot AND heartbreaking, the genre fighting dirty.

 THE DRUNK KISS 🥵🥵🥵

Alcohol enters the chat and suddenly everyone has plausible deniability. He kisses her and can blame the baijiu. She kisses him and can pretend she doesn't remember in the morning. The drunk kiss is the genre's favorite loophole for making two emotionally constipated people finally do the thing while handing them both an exit ramp.

 Verdict: cowardice with excellent lighting.

 THE RAIN KISS 🥵🥵🥵🥵

Someone runs through a downpour. Someone gets grabbed. They kiss soaked to the skin while the sky performs interpretive dance. Is the rain there for symbolism? Partly. Is it there because water is free production value that reflects light beautifully and makes everything read hotter on camera? Completely. The genre found this out early and never looked back.

 Verdict: meteorologically unnecessary, cinematically essential.

 THE FORCED-THEN-MELTS 🥵🥵🥵🥵 (with a large asterisk)

The controversial one. He kisses her before she has agreed, she resists, and then, per the genre's oldest and most side-eyed script, she "melts." Let's be honest adults about this rung: in real life this is not romantic, it's a violation, and the fantasy only functions because it's fiction with a script guaranteeing his intentions are pure and it always works out. The genre adores it. The genre also needs to grow up about it. Both things are true at once, and we can hold them together while still clocking that the execution is, infuriatingly, often effective.

Verdict: a red flag the genre keeps trying to sell as a rose. We see it. We're watching anyway, with notes.

Hot Take: the bonus round is where the genre tells on itself. The crying kiss, the drunk kiss, the rain kiss, and the forced-then-melts all exist to give two people permission to want each other without having to admit they chose to. Grief, alcohol, weather, and "I couldn't help myself" are just four different ways to dodge responsibility for a kiss. The genre is emotionally avoidant and it kisses exactly like it.

 Final Verdict?

Eight rungs and four cursed bonus tracks later, here's the truth: vertical drama built the most elaborate kiss vocabulary in modern entertainment because the format gave it no choice. Fill the whole screen with a face and a kiss stops being a beat and becomes the entire event, so the genre engineered a ladder with a setting for every flavor of wanting, plus a few off-book kisses for when it felt like cheating.

And we climb all of it, gladly, every single week. We arrive for a forehead press and stay through the felony, we roll our eyes at the forced-then-melts and hit play on the next episode anyway, we pretend we're above the drunk-kiss loophole while queuing up a show built entirely on top of it.

The ladder isn't a guilty pleasure. It's just a pleasure that happens to be extremely good at its job. Climb responsibly.

Alright, confess: which rung is YOUR rung, and which bonus kiss do you defend past all reason? Chin grab loyalists, neck detour survivors, unrepentant rain kiss apologists, sound off below. We're building a leaderboard, and there are no wrong answers, only incriminating ones.

💥 This has been Drama Smackdown, where we mapped every way two people can smash faces in 9:16 and then added the cursed ones for the true degenerates. Hydrate, touch grass, and I'll see you back here for the next one.

Melon 🍉 | Clearing Up the Rumors

This is just a short summary from me. In this video, I talked about a few rumors.

1. Love triangle rumor (CTX, LN, and HCR)
There were rumors about a love triangle involving CTX, LN, and HCR. All three denied the rumors, and LN also stated that she wasn't in a relationship with anyone.

2. Contract dispute between CTX and his agency
CTX first sent a contract termination notice to his agency. The agency rejected it and warned that there would be legal consequences. CTX then sent another termination notice, but the agency refused to accept it again.

After that, the agency publicly claimed that CTX had failed to fulfill his contract. In response, CTX released a lawyer's statement accusing the agency of breaching the contract, including:

  • Lack of clarity regarding his work arrangements
  • Chaotic financial management
  • Failure to properly look after his physical and mental well-being

3. GYX rumor
There were rumors that GYX was being sued and that her company had already filed a case against her. There were also claims about her studio saying she is better than LXX. However, what I found shows:

  • No actual case found under her name
  • The birth date listed in the supposed case does not match (poor edit or possibly using Lunar calendar? idk)
  • Too many holes, zero solid proof, and no official statement from either her agency or GYX herself

So overall, don’t believe everything you see online. Always do your own research. If there is no proof from official sources, it should be treated as a rumor. If it turns out to be true later, that’s fine but spreading unverified claims can still harm people, especially their careers and mental health.

There’s been a lot of melon this week, but I’m only covering this one since I actually spent 3–4 hours digging into it today.

I also shared quite a bit on our Discord. There’s new GYX spice news there too. If you want faster updates on CShort news, you can join us , we share everything from tea, actor projects, funny dance , memes , dramas, novel , Abs and more. Someone even mentioned actors retiring 4 days ago, and things like Wang Jin opening a wrap shop, plus other interesting updates 😄

CShort actors who come in your less fav category (Part 2)

Let me tell you - THIS IS STRICTLY NOT A HATE POST (btw for the first one it is, not for second one on the list). It's just an opinion post, the idea inspiration which came from a fellow redditor.

Now, well the thing is that some actors acting isn't it for you. I felt the same for these 2 as well 🙁

  1. Lu Dan Dong: Tbh I actually entirely dislike this actor if I say it. I actually did feel some negative vibes from him and I was actually right, as he was sentenced for 10 months in prison for DV. Now keeping that aside have y'all seen his dramas where he was paired with Ma Qiu Yuan? Not a single one is bearable, and he plays the highest level of sc*m in those ones. Sometimes I really felt that was he really playing himself coz those roles were so, so, so realistically sc*mmy that you really cannot imagine your faves playing those roles, leave favs, even any other actor. There was this specific one with Ma Qiu Yuan only and that one was..... Don't even get me started on his character there😡.

  2. Zheng Chenyu: Ok, so let me tell you I really don't dislike her as a person but her acting and characters because all of the roles I have watched of hers have her as a naive, damsel in distress, stone faced character. I am yet to see her in a role where she is a strong, smart, sassy and if possible, a funny FL and not a suppressed, oppressed, downtrodden and 'at mercy of ML/abused Cinderella' character 🙁 Well considering that she's like too young (21) we can hope that she grows more in her script selection and roles.

Wife is a painter/artist, husband has OCD. Green flag ML & FL.

Help me find this. I need to know the ending 🙈 The title was something like “Wrong table. Forced Blind Date. Marriage of convenience. Then real love happened.” (I searched here using some of these keywords but couldn’t find it😔). If I’m not mistaken, the ML was Zhang Yunzheng and Liu Yitong. I love it because both ML and FL are strong. And they communicate. While ML is protective and ready to back up FL, FL is actually more than able to handle most of the things on her own. As I wrote in the title, the FL is a painter, and the ML has obsessive compulsive disorder. FL took the initiative to marry FL even though she knew he wasn’t her blind date. Later she was motivated to "cure" ML’s OCD as his granpa promised her 100million. The funny thing is servants and assistant has a group chat where they gossiped about the development of their master’s love and happily expecting the young master 🙈🤣 Please help me find this. Thank you 🙏🏼

Chen Si & Hou Chengyue | The Endless Snow of Beijing

Did you like Yoori's Sneak Peek?

Chinese title: 京雪未央

Shen Yanqing is a powerful, untouchable figure from Beijing’s elite circles — cold, restrained, and used to standing above everyone else. Lin Shu, however, is not someone who can be easily bent. She is intelligent, clear-headed, and painfully aware of the distance between their worlds.

What connects them is a love that crosses status, family pressure, and emotional restraint. Shen Yanqing may appear ruthless to others, but with Lin Shu he becomes gentle, protective, and quietly devoted. Their story carries that classic “Beijing elite romance” tension: deep affection, painful separation, snowy-night longing, and two people who keep reaching for each other even when reality keeps pulling them apart.

* elite romance / class gap / angsty love / protective ML / winter atmosphere

Any Green Flag ML Drama Recommendations?

Looking for any dramas that the ML out the gate are green flags. I mean from beginning to end. This one for me was it:

Jinye Yaoguang/Who's my Real Fiancé?/The Ashes of the Wilderness/The Light of Ashes

ML:  Xiang Hao 向昊

FL: Li Qianle 李芊乐

Plot Synopsis

Lu Zhiyao, a surgeon at the city's central hospital, saves the life of Qi Jinye, the richest man in the country, only to discover that he is actually the uncle of her fiancé, Qi Yunzhi. She mistakenly identifies Qi Yunzhi as her childhood benefactor. Just before their engagement, Qi's mother, due to the family's decline, looks down on Lu Zhiyao's background and publicly humiliates the father and daughter at the engagement banquet. In her despair, Qi Jinye appears with his men, dispelling her gloom.

Out the gate will say it isn't a award-winning short but what I liked about it was how ML was so in love with FL in was so sweet. He was a HUGE green flag when it came to her and was overprotective. He'd clarify things to make sure there was no misunderstanding and hated to see her upset. Can someone recommend NOT the same STORYLINE but a drama where ML is SIMILAR as in doesn't disrespect FL or buys the shenanigans that the 2ML/2FL tries to stir up or family and friends try to pull. Always backs FL and never lets anyone bad mouth/trash her.

Jin Xuanyu & Zhou Jiayi | Meeting You From Dawn to Dusk

Chinese title: 朝暮遇你

Li Chaomu was once a wealthy heiress, but after being pushed out by her stepmother, she learns to survive on ambition, sharp instincts, and the need to take back what was stolen from her. Her deepest wound is tied to Xie Yu — the boy who once saved her from a fire and whom she believes she lost forever.

But the man who appears in her life now carries the shadows of that past. Xie Yu / Xie Shubai is not just a stranger in her present; he is the person connected to her old rescue, her grief, and the truth she never fully understood. Their story mixes reunion, identity secrets, revenge, and a love that starts from a debt of life and grows into something much harder to walk away from.

* reunion / hidden identity / revenge / heiress comeback

Zaddy Zhao Ting Yi and His Lady-Loves! A nice little compilation.

InstaAlgo whacked me with this nice compilation of Zhao Ting Yi and his leading ladies from some of his well-known dramas. I added the translations and subtitling.

Zhao Ting Yi hasn't been highlighted much on this sub [but has been on our Discord... just sayin'] so I thought he should be taken out for a stroll around Reddit. Plus... as always Sharing = Caring! 🫰🏻

Even though he has been in the ShortVert Industry for almost a year and a half, his filmography is not as robust over the same period of time as other ShortVert actors¹. Quality v Quantity? Works for me! 🤔

Dramas featured in this reel + Female Leads:
The Morning Sun Resembles Me/Starlit Hearts/Zhao Yang Si Wo² x Liang Wen Jing
Night Entwined in Twining Branches x Wang Yun Yun
Only Have Eyes For You x Deng Ling Shu
The Wife With An Agenda x Deng Ling Shu
Just to Possess You x Han Yu Tong
Love As Life x Song Yu Jia
She's The One x Deng Ling Shu

And: 18-Year-Old Grandmother Arrives to Restore the Family's Glory, S1 + S2, S3, S4 x Li Ke Yi
MDL Title: Shi Ba Sui Tai Nai Nai Jia Dao, Chong Zheng Jia Zu Rong Yao
Zhao Ting Yi has been in all four seasons to date. Not sure which season was referenced in this clip, but I'm guessing S4. Regardless, I'm parking this one out of the main list because... reasons.

Check the Comment section [all the way at the bottom] of each MDL Drama Page link for the goodies!

With all of the above out of the way... time to put on your Casting Director hat and select the next Leading Lady to work with Zhao Ting Yi. And the setting for the drama... Modern, Republican, Historical... RomCom, Thriller, Fantasty... name the theme!

•🌶️•

I had questions about ZTY's character identification at time code 0:00:08 [18 Grandma] so... I asked Gemi for a little bit of a deep-dive explanation...

Q: Is this a proper name? If not, what does it translate to in English?

Analysis:
• Characters: 阿渊
• Pinyin: Ā Yuān
• Explanation: It is an affectionate nickname or familiar form of address. The prefix "阿" (Ā) is commonly attached to a character from a person's given name to show closeness, intimacy, or fondness among family, friends, or lovers. "渊" (Yuān) is the person's actual given name character (meaning abyss, deep pool, or profound).

→ Zhao Ting Yi's character name: Ji Zhi Yuan | Ji Si Nian [Past Life]

•🌶️•

¹ ^([Could be for a lot of reasons, but hopefully, having no rhythm is not a factor. He's an actor, not a dancer. 😎... 🫣... 😆... 🤣.])

² I made a mini-review post for Starlit Hearts when it was announced [two months ago] that a Season 2 would be forthcoming... sometime in the future. It seems that the future has yet to arrive... and I don't see anything on the horizon. Yet! 😎

Wang Peiyan & Liu Nian | Enemies Always Meet

Did you like Yoori's Sneak Peek?

Chinese title: 冤家路不窄

Wen Yu and Qi You are the kind of enemies who should never be tied together — and definitely not as lovers, let alone family. But fate has other plans when a five-year-old child suddenly appears, calls Wen Yu “Mom,” and points straight at Qi You as his father.

A DNA report turns their rivalry into a disaster neither of them can escape. Qi You, the rebellious Beijing-circle prince, and Wen Yu, the woman who never wanted to be connected to him, are forced into an absurd new reality: enemies, possible parents, and maybe something much more dangerous if their old hatred starts turning into attachment.
