For anyone who saw my last post, the second guys social event took place last weekend on October 3rd at Prairie Dog Brewing. The first one had 25 guys register and 7 actually show up, but all had a great time.
This time around, of the 23 registered, 20 showed up! (major success). Huge thanks to everyone that came out.
From everyone I spoke to afterwards, it sounds like people had a genuinely great time. There were some returning faces from the first one as well as a bunch of new guys, and at least one person mentioned that the guys he spoke with said they'd come out again.
The main piece of constructive feedback was actually about the venue setup. The seating made it a little difficult to move around and mingle, so some people ended up staying with the same group for most of the night.
That's something I'll change for the next one, somewhere with more open or communal seating where it's easier to move around and strike up conversations with different people. I think I've found a good spot for November that takes this into consideration.
It's also changed my thinking a bit from the first event. After only 7 people showed up last time, I started thinking maybe 5–7 was actually the ideal size. Now I think it's less about the total number of people and more about creating an environment where those smaller groups naturally form but people can move between them.
Either way, going from 7 guys at the first one to around 20 at the second and hearing that people want to come return is a great sign.
Still pretty cool to me that this started as an experiment in Vancouver to see if guys would actually be interested in meeting other guys and making new friends.
Turns out they are!

As a side-bar, I'd love to incorporate a toy drive into either the November or December event and support a local organization such as the Salvation Army (Toy Angels) or Calgary Firefighters Toy Association. Since I'm from Vancouver, if there's anyone that has a connection to any of these organizations or feedback, I'd love to hear from you. In exchange for a toy, I'm hoping the venue can provide some first drink free or other sort of benefit, I think that would be really cool.

I’ll be honest and stay I hopped on this post on a whim, it’s Saturday night and I noticed that my phone was overwhelmingly quiet and I realized that maybe I should have more space to meet people and speak about life and everything in between. I want to learn everything about who you are are and tell you about who I am and just meet someone that maybe gets it?
I grew up in Calgary and know my way around good food even when I’m not the one cooking it lol, I’m a girly girl at heart but most definitely a mucho independent man when it comes to my grind. I’ve had my fair share of life experiences, currently working while I run my own non profit organization, I’m also taking courses to qualify for graduate school and in the midst of it all, I guess I just want to meet someone with substance, stories and maybe a little bit of darkness, just like me.
And for the love of the lord, my post history is separate to what I’m making friends for haha.
So this might sound weird but as a 32F, originally from Ontario, with no kids and no friends in Calgary… and going through a divorce, I found myself wondering if there were others going through this as well. It’s funny to see the insta trend post of millennials going through a divorce, going to therapy, getting fit, etc. but if you’re like me, it can be incredibly lonely.
So I thought I would come on here and see if there were other ladies who resonate with me, and would want to meet up. Think of it like peer support lol not that we’re going to just meet up to vent, but even just knowing that someone is going through something similar while not having to explain any of it can be comforting.

Help! I fell victim to the cult of pickleball this summer.
The problem is I’m having a hard time finding people who want to play casually. I’ve tried all the clubs open play and social sessions and they all seem so intense!
I want to play properly, have good rallies, improve naturally, etc. I just have zero interest in ratings, rankings, or turning it into my entire personality. I want to have fun, get some exercise, and social with people.
