Update: Organized a second guys social event at Prairie Dog Brewery last week - Attendees Tripled!

For anyone who saw my last post, the second guys social event took place last weekend on October 3rd at Prairie Dog Brewing. The first one had 25 guys register and 7 actually show up, but all had a great time.

This time around, of the 23 registered, 20 showed up! (major success). Huge thanks to everyone that came out.

From everyone I spoke to afterwards, it sounds like people had a genuinely great time. There were some returning faces from the first one as well as a bunch of new guys, and at least one person mentioned that the guys he spoke with said they'd come out again.

The main piece of constructive feedback was actually about the venue setup. The seating made it a little difficult to move around and mingle, so some people ended up staying with the same group for most of the night.

That's something I'll change for the next one, somewhere with more open or communal seating where it's easier to move around and strike up conversations with different people. I think I've found a good spot for November that takes this into consideration.

It's also changed my thinking a bit from the first event. After only 7 people showed up last time, I started thinking maybe 5–7 was actually the ideal size. Now I think it's less about the total number of people and more about creating an environment where those smaller groups naturally form but people can move between them.

Either way, going from 7 guys at the first one to around 20 at the second and hearing that people want to come return is a great sign.

Still pretty cool to me that this started as an experiment in Vancouver to see if guys would actually be interested in meeting other guys and making new friends.

Turns out they are!

I'll organize another Calgary one some time in early November and if you're interested , feel free to shoot me a message or leave a comment.

As a side-bar, I'd love to incorporate a toy drive into either the November or December event and support a local organization such as the Salvation Army (Toy Angels) or Calgary Firefighters Toy Association. Since I'm from Vancouver, if there's anyone that has a connection to any of these organizations or feedback, I'd love to hear from you. In exchange for a toy, I'm hoping the venue can provide some first drink free or other sort of benefit, I think that would be really cool.

Saskatoon Guys Social Event (The Second One) - Saturday, Oct. 24 @ Rebellion Brewing @ 5PM

Hi Everyone!

Thank you to everyone that showed interest in making this happen for a second time!

I took a suggestion from one of the attendees of the first one and was able to get a new venue (also in the spirit of supporting another local business)

It'll be hosted at Rebellion Brewing on Saturday, October 24th at 5:00 PM.

This will be a casual meetup for guys who want to grab a beer, shoot the shit, and meet some new people.

Whether you're into business, fitness, sports or just looking to get out, meet some new people, and have a laugh, feel free to pull up and join the conversation!

When you arrive, let them know you're there for the 'In Good Company' event!

For background, I began organizing these events in Vancouver and Surrey and expanded to Calgary, which just had their second one this past weekend and brought out 20+ guys. The response has been so positive that I organized one in Saskatoon last month and the guys had a great time, with a bunch requesting to be kept posted of the next one. It's awesome to see guys connecting across Canada and meeting new people that they otherwise wouldn't.

For Saskatoon (and surrounding area) guys looking to grow their social circle and make new guy friends

Fellow guy here! 36, 2 kids and work in a corporate gig.

I'm from Vancouver B.C. 👋 and for the past few months I've been organizing a guys social event type of thing over beers at various bars in Downtown, Vancouver. I then expanded to a neighbouring city, Surrey and Calgary as well.

I was thinking of potentially organizing one in Saskatoon if there's enough interest.

This would be for guys in Saskatoon and the surrounding area that are looking to expand their social circle and hang with some new people, grab a beer and shoot the shit in a low pressure environment.

This started as a bit of an experiment to see if guys were open to making new guy friends and has taken on a bit of a life of its own with each one bringing out anywhere between 18-25 guys and continuing to grow month over month.

I found guys tend to get into different life stages from their immediate friend groups and the interactions can become infrequent and there weren't really any channels to make guy friends.

So if this sounds of interest, please don't hesitate to leave a comment below and if there's enough, I'll get in touch with a Saskatoon bar and get something going!

While I live in Vancouver, I won't be there but from the response I've received it seems guys are lacking for this type of thing in society.

Cheers!

I'm from Vancouver B.C. 👋 and for the past few months I've been organizing a guys social event type of thing over beers at various bars in Downtown, Vancouver. I was thinking of potentially organizing one in Montreal If there's enough interest.

This would be for guys in Montreal and the surrounding area that are looking to expand their social circle and hang with some new people, grab a beer and shoot the shit in a low pressure environment.

Major shoutout to all the guys in this sub that reached out and attended the guys event last week over beers!

I know a lot of people say that making friends in Vancouver isn't easy but it definitely didn't feel that way based on the response to my last post about getting guys in Vancouver together over beers. (https://www.reddit.com/r/NiceVancouver/s/FO9jzQ58t3)

Between comments and guys reaching out directly, I probably received over 100 messages of guys interested in joining or wanting to be kept in the loop about the next one.

The group that made it out (about 20 of them) were all super cool and seemed to really enjoy themselves and have some good conversations. Pretty much all wanted to be notified of the next one.

The next one will likely take place on August 29th and I think will be even better. I'm working on getting a private spot within a bar which I think will add to the whole experience.

If you reached out on the last post, I would've reached out already on how to stay in the loop and if you're seeing this for the first time, feel free to leave a comment or message me 👍.

I'm also looking at having these more frequently, maybe every 2 weeks instead of once a month.

If you attended and you're reading this, feel free to share your experience.

See you all at the next one!

I see a lot of posts from people seeking activity partners in Toronto - and I had this question

I see a lot of posts from people seeking activity partners in Toronto - and I had this question

I see a lot of posts where people are seeking activity partners for something specific or just to hang out or go for a walk, etc.

My question is, are most people open to doing things with the opposite gender? I understand males typically are indifferent but have seen a lot of posts from women which seek out other women specifically. I can understand why this is, just to manage the dynamics and safety between the individuals that are doing the activity.

I ask because I'm working on a tool in which you could post an activity and set specific parameters like age range, number of attendees, location/date/time, and have interested people join but unsure if it should just be for guys to make guy friends, women to make women friends, or open to anyone/everyone. Or better yet, choose whether you're open to anyone or a specific gender to join.

Would love some feedback and if this sounds interesting and you'd like to be notified of it, I'd be happy to keep you in the loop.

I created a tool for guys in Vancouver to expand their social circle after I organized a few guys social events 🍻

TLDR: Noticed there were no avenues for guys to make new friends when they get into different stages of life.

Organized men's social gathering events in Vancouver, got a big response, figured if there's this much interest, others might want to create their own that other guys can join, built a tool to do that:

www.ingoodcoapp.com

Hey everyone,

Over the past little while I’ve been organizing social gathering type of events around Vancouver called, 'In Good Company'

These were intended for guys that are looking to get out of their bubble and make other guy friends over beers and just shoot the shit for a couple of hours.

I found that guys tend to move through different life stages and sometimes your interactions with your friend circle can become more infrequent and there wasn't any real path to make new friends, meet new people (specifically for guys looking to make guy friends).

After organizing a few of these events I thought, 'if there's this many guys that are open to meeting new people, making new friends, then maybe they'd like to organize their own activities and others can join if it interests them'.

From there I began building a tool to do just that.

The idea is pretty simple:
- Find or create casual local activities
- Grab beers after work
- Go for a hike
- Hit the driving range
- Watch the game
- Whatever gets guys out of their bubble and out meeting new guys over some sort of activity

No group chats, a clear activity with a date/time/location, no awkward networking. Just normal guys making plans. You can even choose a template and add your own details.

I have a pitch and putt activity in there looking for a couple guys to join!

It’s still in beta, so I’m looking for honest feedback more than anything. I’d love for you to check it out!

Or even try making an event and then sharing the link in this subreddit for other guys to join.

You can check it out here: www.ingoodcoapp.com

I started organizing social events for guys in my City to broaden my friend circle. The response was so big that I created a tool for others to do the same!

Hey everyone,

I’m a 36-year-old guy from Vancouver, Canada.
Over the last few years I noticed that as life gets busier with careers, relationships, kids, etc., it’s a lot harder to maintain regular connections with your circle and even harder to make new friends that might fit your new lifestyle.

I kept seeing posts from guys looking to make new guy friends and I wondered why there wasn't a place for it.

So I started organizing monthly guys’ social gatherings over beers at local bars in my city. The response was surprising. I received over 100 messages and had 22 guys come out to the last one.

That made me realize there are probably a lot of guys who would host something themselves if it were easy.

So I built In Good Company, a web app where guys can create activities for other guys to join. It can be anything from grabbing beers after work, golfing, hiking, watching a game, trying a new restaurant, playing board games, or whatever you’re into. Hosts can set things like group size, age range, location, and a description.

If you don’t know what to host, there are event templates you can claim, customize for your city, and publish.

One thing I wanted to improve over Reddit is reducing the anonymity. Hosts are required to upload a photo and share a few interests so people have a better sense of who they’re meeting before they sign up.

I’d genuinely love feedback from people who think something like this could be useful. Maybe create an event and post it to your city's subreddit for others to join.

You can check it out here: www.ingoodcoapp.com

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Update - hosted a THIRD men's social event (In Good Company) - competed with FIFA ⚽️ and amazing weather ☀️ this time - here's how it went

Alright this time around we were competing with FIFA and Summer holidays 😅

Even with that, 18 guys turned out. Some old, some new. Mahony’s Tavern was gracious enough to reserve a large section for us, even with the Portugal Colombia game on (ended 0-0)

With this being the third one, it seems that guys that have come to look forward to seeing people from previous ones, like seeing an old friend, which is great!

I mentioned in my last re-cap that about 50% of the registrants showed up to the last one but it was around 80% this time around so it seems like guys are beginning to register with more intent to attend.

I’d also mentioned that a bunch of people had made friends with one another which was great to see and I personally was able to make a few friends with some of the guys over lunch checking out a live music event with a couple others - very cool people.

All in all, i’m glad to see that these events are continuing to grow and doing what they were intended to do - giving guys a low-pressure environment to meet new people, have a beer, shoot the shit and make some friends.

I also set up a separate sub-reddit where I’ll post future get togethers: [https://www.reddit.com/r/InGoodCompanyApp/\](https://www.reddit.com/r/InGoodCompanyApp/)

So if you’re a guy that’s looking to grow their friend/social circle, please feel free to join that sub where I’ll be posting all the future ‘In Good Company’ events and some other stuff I’m working on to push this forward 👍

The next one will likely be on July 25th from 5-7PM
