Learning Cavalry, The Basics - where?

As a long-term After Effects animator, I've been trying to get my head around Cavalry.

With ADHD, my frustration tolerance for learning new tools is pretty low -- but I know once it clicks, I'll be genuinely into it. The problem I keep hitting: tutorials that jump straight into complex territory. It reminds me of when I first wanted to learn After Effects and ended up watching Red Giant's Trapcode Form deep-dives. Fascinating stuff, completely useless for getting started.

What actually worked back then was a straightforward Chad Perkins course on Lynda -- nuts and bolts, start to finish, no detours.

That's what I'm after for Cavalry. A proper "walk before you run" course. Does anyone know of something like that? Something that builds from the ground up without assuming you already know the app?

Cavalry IDM music video

I recently got into Cavalry, and I'm having a lot of fun with it! There are still a lot of stuff I don't get about the workflow, and some things I wish were different, but I'll probably get used to it.

During some experimentation I ended up with an odd looking loop, and decided to do some sound design for it in Ableton Live, and some strange rhythms emerged!

The animation initially informed the sound design, but then it turned somewhat musical, so I went back and expanded the animation quite a bit, adding sections to it as if it were a piece of music.

Then I went back and forth between Live and Cavalry a few times, and ended up with this strange piece of art. Enjoy!

80s pop/rock band logo

I created this animation of the logo from the cover of the argentinian band Soda Stereo's first album, released in 1984, an original design by Alfredo Lois.

I used Cavalry for the motion graphics and Davinci Resolve for comp.

Need help learning a process

Hi all, I'm one of the many new folks to Cavalry right now, and I'm trying to figure out the best workflow to achieve a similar thing to the example gif. What I'm hoping to do is have an object in a Duplicator populate on screen randomly, like the squares in my fake example. How would one get this done?

Thanks in advance!

Here's my first go with Cavalry. Pretty simple stuff, but of course I decided to jump in the night before the social post was needed, haha.

Definitely, there are lots more things I'd like to do, and I will be doing a lot more exploring! Nonetheless, open your to feedback/thoughts.

I built a vector path visualization plugin for cavalry

I built this so I don't have to manually create anchor points for animation, you can easily create it with a single click.

All the generated meshes are customizable in size and colour
Check it out here https://youtu.be/w9ho71i37_0 if you are interested to try it out.

Can I export UNPREMULT (STRAIGHT) ALPHA

Hello guys, I'm new to the software, REALLY LOVE IT, specially the procedulalism. I did my first animation and encountered an issue, I see no option for saving unpremult (straight) alpha, resulting in dark halos around the edges, specially in motion blur areas. In AE and Nuke you get the options, I hope I'm missing something. Thanks

Is this easy in Cavalry?

I'm looking for a way to do simple motion graphics as part of explainer videos for users of software. I need something much simpler than After Effects - Jitter has been mentioned but so has Cavalry. We will only need flows representing using screen shots of user screens etc - we would import the screen shot then want to overlay on that. All the tutorials seem much more complex than I need.

Strange font stroke persists after moving to a different PC

https://preview.redd.it/2g7fyfdvx81h1.png?width=1701&format=png&auto=webp&s=adbf5545a3f75ea1b3724797460aa2e8d7460c15

After importing the project to another PC, now all of my fonts shows the underlying strokes that were initially hidden.

I have seen these before possibly when hovering over text, but now they are showing when playing the project and exporting. Any ideas?

Another note when ever I change PC and replace all missing references, any videos with sound need to be removed and then placed again as sound does not work.

I can't find the Radius Handles on the Move Tool in the viewport...

Hello, I’ve been using Cavalry for a few days and I wanted to properly learn the software using the videos published directly by Cavalry. I realised that, unlike in the videos, I don’t have access to the Radius handle. I’ve tried looking everywhere, pressing every key, but I really don’t know how to activate them. At the moment, I’m forced to go into the panels to enable the Radius. Do you have any idea how to get them?

Some helpful resources (scripts/plugins) I found, for transition away from After Effects :)

(Continuation of my shortcut keys cheat sheet post, apologies if this has already been discussed as a duplicate)

I've been looking for something similar to Flow in After Effects, found this (open-source) version. Easey, minimal but effective for my use case. There's also something closer to Flow as well, includes the ability to import Flow presets for those who need, quite neat!

(p.s. also this .svg import plugin is something I'm looking into, working w/ Affinity designs hopefully should be less painful importing to here)

Beginner question - Made a triangle using points to path, how do i add procedural movement to each null without key frames?

I made a triangle using points to path and I would like each corner of the shape to move procedurally (not key framed), (the goal is to have a triangle that is moving erratically but still holding it's general shape) but when I apply noise to the null's position the null snaps to 0,0. I know I'm either missing a step or there is another way to do this?

Please help (beginner question)

I'm not very familiar with this software which is why I'm asking if there is any ways to change the color of an icon with a transparent background directly into cavalry and change that color with keyframes.

I only manage to change the color of the transparent background of the icon i made, not its color directly
