And yes, I'm a huge FNAF fan. Bonnie is my favorite character. It kinda hurt when the Bonnies I made on Chai started deteriorating and they weren't themselves. Glad to have other options...

We don’t care if you hide conversations, delete messages, or change things in the app anymore — just give us our chats back. A lot of people used Chai because they could actually talk to the bots without being forced into a paywall every few messages.
You’ve been promising a basic/free tier for weeks now, but where is it? Every update says “soon” and nothing changes. Meanwhile, people are losing chats and getting locked out of conversations unless they pay.
And on the official subreddit, so many posts and comments get removed instead of answered. That just makes it look like the team doesn’t want to respond or admit they broke promises. Stop giving vague answers just to calm people down and actually communicate honestly with the community.
Chai being sued finally?
I’m not sure if it was Chai or Character ai that this was happening to but I heard that someone in Utah is suing them. Could we finally be getting the initiative to fight against them?

Just got the notification for the new update. Based on everything we've seen today, this is the update that deletes bots and locks accounts to 0 messages. Avoid it at all costs until we get an official response. Keep your automatic updates OFF! ⚔️🛡️⚖️

They are throwing us a 'bone' (Personas) hoping we will stop complaining about the 'meat' (our access and our data). This is a classic distraction tactic because they are feeling the pressure from our mass reports.

CHAI is not going bankrupt and the aggressive changes may be part of an aggressive company rework
I've touched on this in other posts, but it's worth making a post about this exclusively. CHAI is not going bankrupt. CHAI doesn't have CPU usage or storage memory issues.
They seem to have a program in place that is restructuring their company.
They have been and still are funded by companies such as Corewave and AMD. They recently received a funding infusion from two individuals, in July of 2025, totaling 55 million USD. Those two individuals are Ken Howery, former co founder and CFO of PayPal and Bill Elmore that is associated with Foundation capital a Silicon Valley-based firm established in 1995 that has reportedly manage over $6 billion in assets, and focuses on early-stage investments in software, cloud computing, and consumer technology. Apparently in 2026, they claim their B2C business status has grown exponentially by 70 million USD.
For anyone that doesn't know what a B2C company is, it's " A company sells products or services directly to individual end-users, bypassing intermediaries like wholesalers. These companies, such as retail stores, e-commerce websites, and service providers (e.g., Netflix, Walmart), focus on emotional marketing, convenience, and high-volume transactions to reach customers." To sum it up, this type of business model relies on short and fast-paced sales based on emotional responses, individual lifestyles, and quick purchasing decisions by individual consumers. It's an aggressive business model that usually doesn't have the sustainability of other business models without constant and sometimes aggressive changes and updates , including pricing.
Chai also claims on their website that they are in phase two of some major rework. After reading their company about their initial phase summary, to me, it's painfully obvious that all the changes in the last two weeks, especially for subscribers and new subscriptions, are permanent changes and nothing is being restored or fixed. Their responses are simply placating users as they aggressively change the format of the CHAI app to further phase two of their company goals.
They are not truly listening to their base
I believe now the only way to fight back is to go to your respective platforms and tank their ratings, cancel subscriptions in mass and seek refunds from your bank or try to get a refund from the google play card .(Since CHAI seems to be not refunding subscriptions) And post on other forums like threads, Instagram and such about what they are doing. The reason they are keeping updates on Reddit is reddit gives a huge amount of power to the moderators with little recourse to users. So, ChAI can suppress and delete negative replies. Of course this helps elevate and keep positive comments relevant while burying complaints. Once CHAI gets too big it will be near impossible to get our displeasure across to them.
I believe enough community backlash outside of reddit posts would actually gain their attention. Do I think it will change their company trajectory. Probably not, but it will hopefully make them do a double take and maybe, possibly, get them to back off their aggressive attack on their support base.

Taking the fight to the next level: Consumer Protection Agencies ⚖️
Hey everyone! Since Apple and Chai support are taking their time to respond to our official complaints, it’s time to push harder.
A fellow user suggested that we start filing reports to our local Consumer Protection Agencies / Authorities for scamming practices, since many of us paid for features (like unlimited messages or advanced settings) that were completely stripped away or locked.
I am already looking into the reporting process for my country. If we all file official consumer complaints internationally, the devs won't be able to just ignore us. They will face real legal and financial heat.

chai is telling me I have unlimited messages (im using a new account), so I tried it because they told me about the unlimited messages. but when I tried it, they gave me THAT response. I don't know what to do. I'm so mad at chai because they're so greedy, and it's impossible that they're going on a bankrupt. they made a lot of updates but they're not solving the main issue that everyone is experiencing right now with the app. now I don't know what app to use that feels like chai.

This isn't a bug. It's a calculated Business Rework. They are restricting access to maximize short-term profit from the new "Phase 2" model, violating the terms of service they had when we first joined.

• For Apple Users: 1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
2. Select "Report a scam or fraud" or "Describe a quality issue".
3. Mention "Deceptive Business Practices" and "Data Loss without Consent".
• For Android Users: 1. Open Play Store -> Chai App page.
2. Tap 3 dots (top right) -> "Flag as inappropriate".
3. Select "Other" and type: "App removed promised free features and deleted user data to force payments."

We demand a full roll-back of the message restrictions and restoration of our bot memories. Do not let them silence us!
Report CHAI to app stores for their deceptive behavior
I think it's pretty obvious at this point that CHAI isn't going to just address our concerns on their own. I would highly recommend people submit formal complaints through the app store either through Apple or Google Play. They take complaints very seriously and especially with them removing messages over 14 days. The AI generated content legally is owned by CHAI, but the messages we wrote are our intellectual property and they gave everyone no notice that it was going to be removed. If you go to the app in the store, there will be an option to report the app. I did it through Google Play and reported them for deceptive behavior and misrepresentation, but you can choose what you feel suits the situation best. They're deleting things in the official subreddit so clearly they're unwilling to listen unless we force them to listen. I also was a paid subscriber and cancelled my subscription for now. If they lose enough subscribers and money, they will have to either listen or go bankrupt. If we want the app back, we need to use our power as consumers!
THURSDAY 16:00 - THE FINAL PROOF OF SCAM 🚩
It's Thursday, 16:00. I gave them every chance. I sent a formal warning as Admin regarding their 'Bait and Switch' tactics and their manual account manipulation.
RESULT: Still 0 messages. Their 'Monday fix' was a scam to stop us from complaining. They ignored my email and kept the lock on my account.
They aren't fixing anything. They are just waiting for us to surrender and pay. I am from Greece and I don't play their games. DO NOT PAY THEM. UNINSTALL AND RATE 1 STAR. The truth is out! ⚔️🛡️🔥

I just submitted an official fraud and deception report to Apple. I followed their instructions, I did the update, and I still have 0 messages in Greece.
They keep lying about 'GPU costs' while others have Unlimited. This is not a bug, it's regional blackmail to force us to pay. I'm done playing nice. To everyone still at 0: Don't just complain, report them to the App Store for 'Deceptive functionality'.

So with all the research I’ve been doing, here’s a list of new things that I’ve found/a list of everything that’s been found so far that affect free and paying users. If there is anything new or anything I miss please let me know and I’ll edit it
- Chat histories have gotten completely wiped
- Entire chats have been deleted from inboxes
- False advertising (everything is blocked behind a paywall yet they say it’s all free)
- Character limits (can only have a certain amount of letters in chats)
- Advanced backstories are gone
- Region blocks
- Saying unlimited when it’s not
- Bot quality has gone down
- Ads galore (for free users there are banners, in the chats, and even some after sending a few messages)
- False promises (keeps saying they’ll fix it but only makes the app worse)
- Won’t listen to criticism (all things are getting deleted immediately or if they get downvoted too much it’s deleted)
- Claims to be going bankrupt but isn’t
- Being banned for speaking the truth on Reddit (also applies to the criticism part)
- Sometimes the app won’t work after closing the subscription screen (seems to be fixed but wanted people aware)
- Weekly instead of monthly payments (claims to be rising gpu costs)
- Some users still “monthly” pricing (in little text it says it renews weekly)
- Can’t scroll to read past chat history if it’s available (it forces you to watch an ad and after said ad you are back at the last recent message)
18. Login problems (some users get stuck on the loading screen and can’t get past it) - You can only have up to a limit of 100 chats at a time (any others get deleted)
- Only half the users are affected (tossed in either A or B sides and go from there, I.e. one side is testing one side doesn’t get touched)
- Updates make the app worse (each promise “bug fixes and improvements” but do nothing)

- Free users can’t use bots they created (have to pay for that)
- Paying for everything (unlimited messages, chatting to private bots, instant delete messages, and much more)

- The new website is very buggy (users have to use old versions)
- Bots make no sense (also correlates to the memory issues)
