Fanon Chara and Frisk designs I made for april fools day, like a year ago.
These were made for sactrical purposes. Not at all how i genuinely view the characters. I made them (and the cool edit) to trick my friends into thinking I was changing my Chara and Frisk designs to...that. I knew they wouldn't believe me with the characters alone, so I made the edit to convince them.
As you can tell, I didn't fully remain faithful to their typical fanon designs. So I suppose I'll explain a few artistic decisions I made:
For Chara:
I didn't give them thigh-highs like what's typical for these designs as I feel that adding those, in addition to the feminine features and the short-shorts, would be a little too distasteful. Even for a joke in my opinion. So I gave them tights to keep them covered up. Other than that, I stuck pretty closely to what's typical to see for this kind of fanon Chara.
For Frisk:
I gave frisk a sweater dress to make them look different from Chara, it would be too boring to just put them in a colour swap of Chara's outfit imo. It's also to reflect their different personlities, as back in the olden days Frisk was mostly depicted as more feminine than Chara in this type of art. I made their hair longer for the same reasons. (Even though long haired Frisk was rare back then.)
Then, after making this my creative brain awoke and went: "wait, I can make an au out of this!!"
And thus, "fanontale" was born 🫠
It was kind of like a writing challenge for myself: "what if I take all the bs from the olden fandom and use it to make an acually compelling story? and use these old stereotypes and tropes and put my own twists on them?"
So, uh yeah that's what I did.
I kept Chara and Frisk as nb, but added feminine pronouns to their preferred pronouns. (I didn't want to do it, but i didn't want to diverge from fanon *too* much)
I made Frisk be a manipulative bastard using the "sweet angel" persona people used to give them as a veneer to hide their bad intentions. Instead of making the genocides "all Chara’s fault" i made it so that frisk did it of their own volition, but to avoid being scrutinized they blamed it on Chara.
Chara has essentially gone mad from Frisk's genocides so they act violent and crazy. Thus people don't question Frisk's claims as Chara’s behavior seems to back it up.
And I think I had made up a bit more lore for this bs, but I don't fully remember right now, feel free to ask questions. It may jog my memory.
It started as pure satrie, and ended up making a semi-starical au out of it. I probably won't do much with any of it though. As, well, this was never ment to be more than a joke for a single day. It evolved into slightly more than that but it doesn't change that it was originally ment to be meaningless.
I do question why I thought about it long enough to write all of this, but I suppose it was out of nostalgia for the olden days of the fandom. Even though I am glad we are no longer in those days, its fun to look back at the non-gross parts of our history sometimes and remember the absolute garbage I used to consume about this game as a kid...(i say this with mostly love, of course)
Maybe I will continue work on this au out of nostalgia...i more than likely won't though, as I have several, non 2016 themed aus that i'm way more passionate about than this one.
So, until nostalgia strikes again, Dear "fanontale".
