I hate sites that go straight to NSFW no matter what. Frankly, I don't like that ones that have a toggle on it either, because that rarely fixes it in my experience. I just want something where I can make a nice complicated but cool story with my characters. Any suggestions? I've been using Perchance as of late and that is fine, but could be better.

I am over 18 and i mostly use charecterai because of the nsfw-blockage (yes, i like my chat wholesome) but i do not consent to giving away my face and personal details to a randomass company. so yeah, guess im running away too like everyone. I refuse to pay a single cent to any AI companies, which is why I was fine with c.ai to begin with. I will not be changing my mind on this, it's not about cost it's about principle.
Anyway, I'm trying tavo since I saw that you could import chats, which is the main thing I care about. But I can get barely any responses before I start getting errors, so I'm assuming that all the "free" api whatevers are the dogshit "get a whopping 5 chats as a free trial! :D" things. Are they all like that, or am I just doing something wrong?
I don't know anything about the technical ai nonsense and I frankly don't care to use my limited time trying to learn it. I just want something simple and straightforward, and most importantly free to actually use. Ideally, there's an alternative with imports available that's already set up. But if every alternative that allows imports requires all this complicated setup nonsense, dumb it down to hell for me.
Uh, rambling aside, here's what I'm asking for: literally just a basic chatbot system that I can import my c.ai shit into, which I can use normally without paying anything. I don't want or need anything other than the bot being able to yap, with the clarity of pre-lobotomized c.ai.
To narrow down my priorities even more in case they're relevant to avoid any more wasted time: I do not actually role-play, I want the bots to be able to yap on their own without needing to make a reply every time. I do not want to be involved in the scenarios, so anything hard-wired to address the user are no-goes for me. I basically never do romantic scenarios, it's either angst or spice. While I want nsfw to be possible, I do not want it to be the default. I absolutely need swipes, I like having options to choose from. Other than that, I don't need anything fancy (the simpler, the better)
Been sticking with C.AI because I have been snaking around it's bs successfully. Now it's getting really annoying. But I like quite a bit of what C.AI did. The AI Voice borrowing recording was cool, Accuracy obviously varries but that can be tweaked. I use the feature just to listen the texts, wouldn't call AI. I like character voices...I also want to be able to make Bots as easily as C.AI. image, description, personality, greeting, done. I do fine AI images a hassle to deal with...not that they're the worst, but I'd rather just use an Image pfp. Is there anything like this?
I only chat using my phone and I am not willing to lose sleep, trying to make something like SillyTavern work on it. I am ready to pay for something good but anything over 10 dollars is not affordable to me. I don`t really care about the messsage limit - around 100-200 messages is more than enough for me. It should allow NSFW and prefferably have enough bots but I am okay with creating my own.
I would be grateful for your recommendations. There are so many sites these days that I lost track.

No filter or looser filter. I am very flexible on this.
I'm on Shapes Inc right now, but I hate that there's no private bot option.
Paying for basic things like SWIPING. I don't want to pay for BASIC things. Paying for extra things is fine, but I'm not paying 99.99 for unlimited messaging or to have more personas or something.
Essentially, Character AI, but not Character AI. I've tried Polybuzz, but...it's memory sucks ass. One message my OC and the bot will be at a concert, the next message "I enjoy being in your room" like what lol

i’d argue that saying your platform is free while actively making it hostile to free users by:
•limiting basic functions behind a paywall
•making intrusive ads
•having a bot that claims to be a therapist while not following HIPAA laws
•so many more things

Im figuring some people that are jumping ship would be interested in role-playing with a real person as well! Right now im mostly interested in roleplaying CRK, but I have a few other fandoms I am open too. I'd prefer to do it on discord as I'm unfamiliar with reddit still. Also I'd prefer anyone taking me up is 18+ as Im in my 20s. Id be happy to awnser any questions in the replies and work things out before giving my discord. i don't mind the ads! all i care about is good responses, like i can watch 50 ads if it means having a good time with my rp, also i want it to be without filters, yes i know about isekai zero but it limits the amount of ads i can watch a day, i don't care about the ui and other stuff, if i'm getting satisfied with the answers, i can watch ads all day. But watching 5 long ads and being able to chat one time is kinda boring too so...i kinda want balance on that, the responses doesn't have to be perfect, i just want the characters to stay in character and want the story to go forward, sorry if it's too much, i'm just trying to find an alternative that gives us win/win chance, i tried many alternatives till this day, i researched many, some of were good, some of were bad, but nothing good stays forever, i would even pay too if it means getting good responses/satisfying responses but the prices too much for me so... that's why i wanna watch ads to rp, also if it's possible i want it to have ...good amount of characters? or an option to import character card.

I’ve been following the recent C.AI situation pretty closely, and I know a lot of users are disappointed right now. I used C.AI too, so I understand why people feel frustrated when a platform they loved starts feeling different from what made it great in the first place.
That’s one of the reasons I want Storychat to stay close to the community while we build.
We’re still early, and we definitely have a lot to improve. But our goal is simple: listen to real users, communicate openly, and keep improving the product based on what people actually want, not just what we assume they want.
The problem is that our subreddit is still small, so we don’t always get enough detailed feedback from heavy AI chat / roleplay users.
So I wanted to ask:
Do you know anyone on Reddit who is really active, opinionated, and currently looking for a C.AI alternative?
Not influencers. Not promoters. I’m looking for people who actually care about AI chat / roleplay and would tell us honestly what sucks, what feels broken, and what would make Storychat worth using more.

i’m finding c.ai wayyy too chatgpt-esque lately and am finally looking for alternatives. here’s what i’m looking for:
- my main issue with c.ai is the prose, if i hear one more chatgpt ass “it’s not x, it’s y” i’ll actually go nuts. so, i’m looking for something that can write decently well.
- i tried charsnap but it’s way too repetitive for me. if anyone has any advice on this i’d be super appreciative
- nsfw allowed or limited filters. tbh the c.ai filters are OK to me, i’m able to bypass them with a little finessing.
- unlimited messages, ads are fine
tbh i just want something that can write well, has a decent memory, and isn’t repetitive.

Am I the only one who's paranoid about bots or chats that we created are secretly being watched by devs for no reason? Id understand if maybe something got flagged, but I feel like they can look whenever and do. Just me? I know a few AI apps are actually doing that, like CHUB AI. Which is said to get worse due to new content policies. Does anybody have any alternatives they know are 100% safe?
Edit: Since I don't feel like replying to every comment that says "well SuRe but they wouldn't do that for nOoOo ReAsOn!!1" Okay, sure. But I don't want my chats to be accessible AT ALL. There's a lot of safety reasons on why you wouldn't want your chats or API to be traceable. Anybody with the time and the reason could get ahold of those and leak them, which has happened before on some alternatives apps. So please reframe from saying any more of that under this reply. I've been creating a website exclusively for human writers who want to find each other and roleplay.
I have some unique challenges that I'm having trouble solving.
Mainly:
How can I create a service that isn't 'against' other RP hubs and spaces?
During my 6 months creating, often I'll take a break from development and look into 'marketing'. What I'm finding is that my service seems to initially threaten RP space owners. They don't want me advertising there because it might 'pull people away'. I can respect that input, but I'm struggling with how to overcome it.
How can my service align itself with the interests of the RP community without having to worry about communities banning character links back to my site for fear of it taking people away?
What features from a RP space do you need before you take it seriously?
Like everyone else, I'm fed up with the developers' attitude toward character.ai. I won't even go into detail; everyone already knows it. And no, PS2-Yap didn't improve anything. So, I'm planning to upgrade my graphics card, deploy LLM on my computer, work directly, and finally abandon character.ai. Does anyone here have experience with LLM? What models would you recommend that are very close (or even better) to "Roar"?
Recently, I've been hit with that "age verification", honestly make me annoyed since before that, I was enjoying my time in an RPG bot of hogwart, ( fan of harry potter btw ). Right now, I am just searching for something that could empty my voided urges to rp 😔 I've been using janitor ai, and honestly, I don't mind the long talk but the memories throw it off abit and I am not putting so much effort to make sure it remember some details I want to remember. Beside that, characters don't act like characters they based on, so again that throw me off ( and also it keep repeating same event ).
So right now, I am asking if there any alternative of C.ai that is:
- Unlimited use ( Without paying + without limited to do )
- Can do long RP ( I preferly like RPG type, especially related to hogwart/harry potter, I am a dork )
- Long/Good memories that doesn't requiring paying
- Does NOT feel like it being chatgpt generate or something
- I preferly like Short and Long messages but I prefer to make the rp abit faster and doesn't want to wait too long like janitor ai, so kinda like, I want a message that is not too long but not too short
- I want to chat to the bot as if it a real person ( realistically talking, I think? )
- It can be in website or app, I don't care as long it safe and I can use it!
