Moving to Essex

I’m an Indian currently living in Oxford, and I’ve gotten a job offer from a company in Clacton-on-sea. I was planning to living somewhere nearby like Colchester or Chelmsford but everyone’s been advising me against Essex and I feel like i’m stuck between the safety I feel in Oxford and a job I really like. Any advice?

Finding the Right Area in Chelmsford to Rent and Raise a Family

I've been living in London for five years and am now looking for a change. I'm planning to rent in Chelmsford before deciding whether to buy in the area.

I've been searching for two-bedroom houses near the station, but most of the listings show a high crime rate of 8/10 on Zoopla.

My daughter will be starting reception in September, she already got outstanding school place in London. Is there any chances we can get good school if we move early July to the area?

I have a four-year-old daughter and work remotely — could you suggest a good area to live and raise a young child? I'm looking for somewhere safe and green, not too far from the train station.

Sorry for the too many questions but this move seems like a big deal so I want to make sure I'm familiar with the area before committing to move.

26NB looking for friends

Hey everyone!

I’m 26, non-binary, and looking to expand my social circle. A lot of my friends have moved away recently, so I'm hoping to connect with some cool, like-minded people. I’m a big metal and punk fan and would love to find folks to hit up local gigs with, but I’m just as down to hang out and chat. Outside of music, I'm into gaming, miniature painting, and DJing. I’m pretty easygoing and just looking for genuine, platonic connections. If you think we’d vibe, feel free to drop a comment or send a DM!

Signage

I think someone altered this sign at Riverside Retail park as a joke but it's been there over 4 months. This has not been photoshopped.

Chelmsford for International students.

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student from Bangladesh and I’m planning to study a BEng Mechanical Engineering with placement year at Anglia Ruskin University starting next year.

I wanted to ask people who live in Chelmsford — how is life there overall?

- Is Chelmsford generally peaceful and safe for students?
- How’s the weather throughout the year? (I’m from a hot country so UK weather will be very new for me )
- Is it easy for students to find part-time jobs for around 20 hours a week?
- How is the overall atmosphere for international students?

I’m honestly looking for a quieter and more comfortable city rather than a super hectic place like London, so Chelmsford seemed interesting to me.

My long term plan is actually to do my Bachelor’s, Master’s, and eventually a PhD in the UK as well, so I’m hoping to build connections, gain UK experience, and properly integrate into the engineering sector over time.

Would appreciate honest opinions and advice from locals or ARU students.

Straw bales for garden

Is there a good place to get 3 bales of straw for a vegetable garden? Preferably that has not had herbicide sprayed on them since it's for vegetables. Thank you.
