How to attract crows.
I used to have crows but the mocking birds chased them away. I’m trying to get them back since we now have two hawks in the neighborhood. The crows and grackles always kept them away. I put some cat food on top of a fence and some chicken food. Does that really work? Putting out food? What else can I do? My hens are free ranged. They haven’t been too bothered about being locked up. I put straw in there since they live to scratch in it. And they have the kiddie pool since I’m in TX and it’s HOT! Sorry went off subject lol how do I get the crows to come back.
Is that a normal or abnormal crop?
It looks soft and squishy. Kinda like a boob.
Chicken run floor
I have a flock of about 30 chickens. They have about an acre and a half of fenced in (like Fort Knox!) area to range all day with access to lots of shade as well as pasture, and they also have a large coop and run to get out of the rain. I have had coarse sand in my chicken run and in the coop part where they sleep for over a year and I have loved it. But my drainage is not the best. So now it has become concrete underneath and it smells bad. We are working on the drainage issue. And I hate to give up the sand because it’s so easy to scoop the poop. But I’m debating digging the whole thing out down two or 3 inches to get rid of all the bacteria, and then adding a very thick layer of hardwood mulch, natural, and undyed, of course. I don’t want to do pine shavings with our water issue. Any thoughts? And BTW I am in deep south George where we have extreme weather. Right now it’s boiling hot and dry, and two weeks ago we were flooding. I would appreciate any kind feedback 😘

C.O.O.P. Technology
Hello, I created a prototype for a system that monitors chickens as well as identifying predators. This system uses a computer vision to count the number of chickens in the coop before closing the coop at night. If this system identifies that a chicken is missing, it will send a notification to the owner so they can search for it. Furthermore, when a predator is identified, the system will send a notification to the owner and play the sound the predator makes, alerting the chickens of the danger so they can hide from the danger. This system allows me to leave the house and let my chickens free range in my backyard with increased safety… and less anxiety!
If you could fill out this form about any interest in it would be greatly appreciated: https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLScEJZ0l1LE.../viewform...
Chickens roasting on a rotisserie above the grease tray
Injured chicken
Edit: thank you for the feedback. After examining her and not finding anything really wrong with her leg, we determined she is egg bound. 🤷♀️🙈 we have given her an Epsom salt bath and massaged her. The egg seems to be moving down and her legs are working. She is much more alert. Hopefully we wake up tomorrow and she has passed the egg! 🤞

Original post: A couple days ago, this hen was wedged between the fence and a water bucket. We got her out and it seemed that she had a hurt leg. We assumed she would heal just fine so we put her in a separate crate with plenty of food and water.
Yesterday she seemed okay, but not better. She had eaten all the food and drank a lot of water.
Today she won’t stand/move, has barely drank or ate, and she has been using the bathroom on herself. She keeps leaning over to one side and leaving one leg limp.
We want to take care of her (without a vet bill). Any advice on healing or giving her energy?
Peri peri chicken
Sunday special - Roast chicken, peri peri sauce, cucumber, pea and herb salad on yoghurt, chicken fat potatoes 🧡
"Chicken à la Minnelli" is basically comfort food with Old Hollywood flair. This is the ultimate cozy dinner, featuring crispy, golden-seared skin and rich Italian herbs. Add a rustic gravy created by pan drippings. This regular roasted chicken dinner is easily turned into something special!
"Chicken à la Minnelli" - Roasted chicken is one of my favorite meals, so I thought I'd try Mr. Minnelli's recipe. I stuffed the chicken with the onions and a big bunch of sage leaves, which I luckily have growing in the garden. I brushed olive oil and the Italian herbs and garlic onto the outside of the whole chicken.
I placed the chicken in a roasting pan, but with no rack. Cooked at 450, reduced to 350 just like the instructions said. Basted. I attempted to roll the chicken over on it's side to cook, a technique which I've never used, but then I realized after wrestling with the bird for a minute, that I didn't have a rack to balance the bird on its side. I'll have to get this rack and try this again to see if it makes a difference.
Turns out I don't have the right kind of rack. You need something like this one, I think. Anyways, the chicken got cooked without being rolled around in the oven like a sleepless night. I've cooked plenty of chickens in the oven and wasn't worried.
I did baste a few times with a little extra melted butter and olive oil. After the first basting (of 3) I basted with the pan drippings.
After it was done, the chicken was moved to a platter to rest. I did make a simple gravy with the pan drippings, but no giblets were used. My secret to moist chicken is to baste it for a good 5 minutes when it comes out of the oven and is resting. It really works great!
Mr. Minnelli suggests serving his chicken with mashed potatoes and peas, so I decided why not choose 2 more celebrity recipes for these side dishes. I already knew that I had a peas recipe from Joan Crawford that I wanted to try and then I found a yummy twice baked potato recipe from Myrna Loy. I know they're not mashed, but who cares!? The twice baked potatoes worked perfectly.
Now for the taste... Excellent!! When I roast a chicken, the herbs I use are typically rosemary, thyme and tarragon. I hadn't thought about sage, but it's a wonderful accent for the roast chicken and the addition of Italian herbs and garlic really makes this mouth watering!
Stay tuned for the potato and peas, recipes being posted next.
First time with ducks, specifically 2 eggs
I went to get eggs from a local and she had 2 that were fertile almost ready to hatch. I got the one she helped put a hole in moistened with coconut oil and into my incubator (I have reptiles that I incubate the eggs) maybe an hour later I had a little baby. So from candling it and all the rabbit holes I went down online the second one pipped the sac the morning before I picked them up. After 48 hrs I put a hole into the air pocket like instructed, however the sac was shrink wrapped like the other one so I moistened it with coconut oil as it was whit white. After I noticed all the veins not drained in the sac, it’s chirping and still chewing. I have a piece of paper towel over the hole and the incubator is staying at a consistent 75-80 humidity and 98 degrees. I’m worried and not sure what steps to take minus letting it be in the incubator. Any advice would be greatly appreciated… attached is a pic of baby beep beep, would be awesome if someone could identify the breed. It was a huge baby in a small egg I’m leaning towards Rouen the body color isn’t dark more like a grayish brown but it has fabulous eyeliner 😅
Motherhood at its finest- A mama hen fighting for her babies' food.
Two chicks were snacking on some COOHGRUBS BSFL when their mama joined the fight. Eventually, the rooster stepped in to break up the conflict. I guess both of those chicks must be his kids! 😂

Chicken sitting out
I cut up chicken potatoes and 3 pounds of organic chicken to put in a crockpot I cut up potatoes carrots, some chicken broth and then I took it out of the fridge at 2am to cook it for 8 hours and I just looked and it literally wasn’t cooking all freaking night I woke up at 8am. It was sitting in the crockpot out for about 6 hours. It didn’t smell bad but should I throw it out. I’m so mad.
This needs to be said.
I’m also cool with chicken nuggets, chicken strips and chicken fingers
My gf prefers medium rare chicken.
My gf has made chicken like this about 3 times now and I feel we could get sick. She prefers it like this, but I think the chewiness makes it hard to eat. I don’t want to be mean.
MaryRuth we’ll miss you
I had to say goodbye to our sweet MaryRuth today. Our vet thinks she got into some old rat poison which was under a shed months ago, and there was no good prognosis. It may have been a tiny remnant but any is too much. We never found any, but it’s still a possibility. She was always friendly, sweet, and chatty. Cluck in heaven sweet girl. 💔🌈
