Looking for people who experienced the Canterbury earthquakes for a university research survey

Hi! I'm Natsuki, a university student from Japan.

I was an exchange student in New Zealand last year, and I'm currently researching how people decided whether to move or stay after the Canterbury earthquakes.

I'm looking for people who experienced the earthquakes to answer a short survey.

Survey link:
https://forms.gle/MPY8D1bymuTRJiHt5

The survey takes about 5–10 minutes, and all responses are anonymous.

My English isn't perfect, but I'm doing my best!

If you could spare a few minutes to complete the survey, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for your help!

Moving to Christchurch from North Island

Hi everyone, my wife and I are in the early stages of planning a move to Christchurch from Hamilton and we're just a bit overwhelmed with where to start, so we're looking for any advice from someone that's done that in the last 6-12 months please.... Things like ballpark budget, do's and don'ts, good neighbourhoods, moving options to consider - just generally speaking, how did you do it and what advice would you have? Thank you!! :)

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I work from home, so not tied to any specific neighbourhood.

Suspect lawn cutting/garden service

Hey Chch, my neighbours 2 doors over (who ironically I have never met but I know are immigrants) have used a lawn mower/tree trimmer type person to trim trees, mow the berm and lawn at the front of their section and I believe other maintenance work at the back of their property. (the workman had the tools a lawn/maintenance type person providing this service would use). Yesterday during the process, he scattered alot of offcuts etc on the road when loading his trailer, which I thought he would've been cleared and sweep up as part of the task. So it wasn't until after he departed, alot of crap was left lying about to be blown by the wind and traffic, with additional offcuts left on my elderly neighbours garden. Not really a job well done or very professional. It was expected we'd never see the guy again.

Yesterday afternoon he returns as I'm walking up the street. First thing I notice is that he gets his accomplice to blow leaves and yesterdays crap from the beam, onto the gutter and road. I greet him politely and comment that he left a mess yesterday and asked that he clean and leave the areas tidy after today's work. Pair of hours later, the berm has been roughly mowed and looks like it was done with a weed trimmer not a mower. There is again more cut scrubbery tossed into and around the trailer, with more rubbish cast onto the road. He is still working at the back of the section, but I'm putting money up that after today's effort, there will again be a mess to be blown around the street. There is no company or business name on the truck but the rego is KYH888.

Today

Yep, would've won my money back. He left a shit of a mess, which being the GC I am, I cleaned up for my elderly neighbours and the people who have obviously been duped. I doubt the guy is known to the neighbours who hired (?) him. It seems he's a cowboy, taking advantage of people who are trusting and Vulnerable. If you see this clown in your neighbourhood or he offers his services to you, I strongly recommend you decline or at least ask about his work and previous customers.

Rego is KYH888

Ant issue

So I've got a colony of freeloaders that need to be evicted.

They are currently residing inside the wall in my bathroom.

I've been so kind as to give them a free meal on the house (nest killer), which they've been devouring. These bait stations I've placed in the bathroom not just so they can get a free show while I shower, but is where the activity was first noticed.

Problem now is, they're coming out through cracks in the kitchen and putting their rotten mitts over my bench and crawling up walls towards my spice rack. It'll only be a matter of time until they sus out my pantry and decide to set up residence there. I even had to throw out my sourdough starter as one got inside my jar, and that was the straw that broke the camels back!

I have sprayed ripcord around the base of my house, covering vents and pipe points.

Any recommendations for a company to deal with this and have the nest killed?

Is there a good craft store/ craft supply shop around?

I'm new to Christchurch and was wondering where do people get their arts and craft supplies from? I've googled but it came up with mostly shops that sell models and models painting stuff. I'm looking more for things like stamps, paints, crayons etc.

Is it okay to try on wedding dresses if you’re not ready to buy

Hey everyone,
Just wondering if this is a normal thing to do in Christchurch.
My mum is terminally ill and sadly won’t get to see either my sister or I get married. We really want to take her to see us both try on wedding dresses while we still can, but we’re not actually ready to buy one yet.
Is it okay to book an appointment at a bridal shop just to try dresses on, or is that frowned upon if you’re not buying?
If anyone knows of any bridal shops that might be understanding of our situation, I’d really appreciate any recommendations.
Thank you so much ❤️
