[Rolex Datejust 41] Chrono24 situation. Would you keep it?
I bought a 2024 Rolex Datejust 41 ref. 126334 on Chrono24 from a professional dealer in NYC. It was listed as a 2024, like new and unworn, full set.
When it arrived, a few things did not match the listing:
- Different serial number than the watch/card shown in the photos
- Different warranty card date
- Missing the white Rolex hang tag shown in the listing
- Watch had light bezel marks and has been buffed/polished according to AD.
I messaged the dealer and they admitted they sent me a different physical watch because the one pictured had sold the day before and Chrono24 "did not remove the listing."
I took the watch to my local Rolex AD after receiving. They said the authenticity checks out, but confirmed it has been lightly worn and buffed.
The dealer offered me $500 to keep it instead of returning it.
The watch is beautiful and is still a fair market deal, but the principle bothers me. I bought an unworn watch based on specific photos, and received a different lightly used one without being told first.
Would you take the $500 and keep it, or return it on principle?
