Topic for discussion: is it folly to adapt Robert E. Howard 100% faithfully?

REH was a pulp writer and a world-class pro at selling to that market.

His stories are perfect for the pulp format.

But in adapting his material to any other medium, I think that being faithful to the concept and the spirit of the original work is more important than a slavish, note-for-note transcription.

When I started adapting “Jewels of Gwalhur” as a series of storyboards, I quickly found out that complete adherence to the text was just not going to work for the audio-visual medium of live-action streaming.

In the sample I've shared here, art by Miguel Guzman, you might spot that even this early in the adaptation, I've made a change.

Can you see in this shot how I've already deviated from Howard's story?

Purists might bristle at any change in the master's canon, but purism can hog-tie an adaptation.

If you want a deeper look at my adaptation of "Jewels," and my view on comics in general, it'll be here:

LIAM SHARP'S 'CONAN' portfolio - US edition

Liam Sharp's Kickstarter campaign for his Conan portfolio just went live. I know a lot of members in this subreddit have expressed admiration for his Conan art, so you may be interested in this too. Personally, (along with Rob De La Torre) Liam is my favorite modern Conan artist and I am thrilled for the chance to obtain a portfolio with some of his amazing Conan drawings...

FROM THE KICKSTARTER: "In April this year, Liam Sharp was invited to create a unique exclusive portfolio for the Lake Como Comic Art Festival. The result was this already-iconic set of Conan prints, the originals of which were featured in a hugely popular exhibition at the show.

The pieces were representations of classic scenes from Robert E.Howard's Conan the Barbarian stories - a character Liam has adored since he was a young boy - and are as close to canon as the artist could get them based on the texts..."

Legend of Conan Script review

Just stumbled upon a very detailed review of The Legend of Conan script. Honestly, I’m not quite sure what to make of the story itself. Some ideas really caught my attention, while others left me scratching my head 😕

Complete and Updated Listing of Titan's Prose Pastiche?

Is there a listing of Titan's REH pastiche, both the print novels and the e-book short stories, that's actually complete and gets updated with each new release?

You'd think this would be a prominent feature on the conan-dot-com site, but if they have anything like that, I couldn't find it.

The Goodreads and Amazon listings I've found are always incomplete. It's ridiculous that someone interested enough to want to buy these stories has no easy way to keep track of them all.

It's kinda sad I didn't see anyone mention it yet, but about some days ago, it was announced that the voice actor Michael Donovan has passed away all the way back on March 4. He was the voice of Conan in Conan The Adventurer, and to me, the definitive voice of the character
