Can Classpass enforce "first time only" rules at studios?

I found a local studio on Classpass and their descriptions state that Classpass users can only take 1 class across all their offerings through the app, and after that you HAVE to get their direct membership. I guess studios can do what they want, but what if someone went ahead and booked multiple classes? Can they kick you out? Using Classpass to list classes and then saying that you can't take the class even if the app lets you feels like it's against the spirit of Classpass, like why even put the studio on Classpass at that point? Just offer discounted first timer classes directly?

reviews no longer anonymous….?

is anyone else noticing this? i tried a new yoga studio the other day and did not enjoy the class - it was advertised as intermediate/advanced and was described as a heated yoga sculpt class. It was definitely a class for beginners and was hardly heated and the instructor didn’t have a mic and I couldn’t hear anything she was saying. No big deal but was pretty annoying because I left feeling like I didn’t break a sweat.

I left a review for the studio detailing all of this and it posted the review with my name !!!!?!? Now I can’t figure out how to delete the review, but I feel awkward going back to the studio now!? Why would they change this feature

Is Class Pass bankrupt?

I am a Pilates studio and for the first few months our direct deposit paychecks from Class Pass were always on time every other Tuesday. The past 3 or 4 payrolls I have had to reach out to Class Pass to receive payment from them and every one has been late. They still owe us one paycheck even.

Any other studios having the same problem? Is it time to remove all our classes from Class Pass?

Classpass /marketing question for boutique studio owners!!

I'm thinking of starting a yoga/pilates/multi-modal studio and I wanted to connect with other owners and see what are some of the biggest challenges I should account for as I build?

I've heard Classpass is great for getting new members when you're first starting out but I'm hesitant to go down that road already because I don't want my brand to be diluted. But I also won't have much money for marketing. So I'm trying to plan!

Any insight would be super helpful. TYIA 😄

I AM FUCKING DONE!

I feel like I am being held hostage by this dumb ass company. I had an injury and was unable to use my credits. They aren’t allowing me to roll over 68 credits onto the next month. Money down the drain. As if I didn’t pay for those credits. It’s all a scam. The customer service is awful and at this point I’d rather give my money directly to the businesses.

Honest question for the sub: what would actually make you leave ClassPass?

Hi all,

Been a member of this sub for a while and a ClassPass user on and off for years. Reading the threads here is fascinating, the same frustrations come up over and over. Credits expiring, surprise cancellation penalties, studios disappearing, the tier system getting confusing, prices creeping up.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, partly because of my own frustrations and partly because I'm curious whether the rest of the community feels the same way.

For me, the bigger issue isn't even ClassPass specifically. It's that London has so much wellness on offer and almost no good way to try things without committing. I don't want to buy a 10-class pack at a studio I've never been to. I don't want a monthly subscription for somewhere I might only go to twice. Some weeks I want pilates, other weeks I want yoga. Most platforms force you to lock in before you've worked out what you actually want.

The other thing that's been on my mind is how much commission the smaller independent studios in London seem to be losing to the bigger platforms. Looking at this sub it seems like a lot of studios are on these platforms because they have to be, not because they want to be. The bigger chains can absorb 30 or 40 percent commission rates. Independents really can't.

I've been quietly working on something in this space called WellDrop. The idea is independent London studios posting last-minute spots they want to fill, customers booking them at the price the studio sets, no subscription or credits or tiered memberships. Pre-launch, nothing to download yet, the whole point of this post is genuinely to understand what people actually want before I build any further.

Three honest questions for the community:

  1. What's the actual single biggest reason you'd consider leaving ClassPass? Cost, credit confusion, studio availability, lack of flexibility, or something else?
  2. Has anyone tried MoveGB, Hussle, or any other alternative? What worked and what didn't?
  3. If you were designing a wellness booking app from scratch, what would you absolutely make sure it had, and what would you absolutely avoid?

Genuinely interested in the critical takes. If anyone wants to see what I've put together so far, it's at welldrop.co.uk. Waitlist is on there for Londoners when it goes live.

Thanks!

Class pass credit surge in Dallas area

Hello. Anyone in the Dallas area notice an absurd increase in class pass credits starting Tuesday? Specifically for Pilates studios? The studio i go to are increasing from 6-8 credits to at least 10-18 now😵‍💫
Is there a reason for this?
I also noticed it’s for the 6am and evening classes aka when regular 9-5 people workout.

San Diego Credit Surge

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing a surge in class credits for a certain class that is usually not that high?

I’ve been booking the same Monday / Wednesday classes for 5 months now with the same instructor same time and credits always ranged between 6-9 credits. Now, those same classes are doubled at 12 credits.

I figured it was the algorithm realizing (5 months later) that I really enjoy this class / instructor / time so I look to book at a studio I haven’t been to. I’ve browsed this studio many times (just never pulled the trigger bc of how out of the way it is) and I always remember the classes being 8 credits. Now, they’re showing 15 credits!

I’ve had my friends that don’t normally take classes with me check on their accounts to see if it’s showing any less for them, but my normal Monday / Wednesday classes are still showing 12 credits regardless ):

Hoping this isn’t the new norm, I really enjoy using class pass to try different studios (and actually got to save money booking through them vs the studio directly) but now it’s cheaper to go through the studio directly. Great for the studio, but not sure how that would be beneficial to class pass?

Credit check: can someone check how much credits is Mad Lagree in Chelsea, London and Form Studios Bayswater London please?

They have gone up to 20 credits per class for me. Do studios make more or is it Cp’s profit? I’d rather buy directly from the studio if that’s the case.

Cancellation promotions are a scam

Tl:dr - Always take screenshots of the in-app promotions they offer you before you proceed with it else you’d be getting a surprise during your new billing cycle.

Recently i decided to cancel my classpass subscription, and as usual the app will give a promotional offer so that you don’t cancel. I got a 30% off for 3 months which i thought was a decent deal. So i continued my subscription.

Come the billing cycle, i saw they only gave me 20% off for 1 month. When questioning the support representative, they asked me for a proof that this offer was given and insisted i was wrong. Who on earth takes screenshots of the in-app promotions. These promotion details also don’t get shown to you after you continued with it. So essentially it’s a scam to just keep you in the app for one more month.

When I said i want a refund, they said they’ll cancel my subscription immediately AND all my carry over tokens will be gone as well which is ridiculous since my carry forward should not be affected.

I have decided to cancel my subscription after this last month ends as i would not support a dishonest business. Hope no one else falls for this scam and remember to always screenshot the promotional offer.

Referral page broken?

Is this happening to anyone else? It just gives me an error message and customer service just tells me to update my app, but it’s like this on web and app. I have a few friend wanting to join but I’m trying to get them to wait until this is working again

Built a ClassPass 'alternative' I wanted to share with you guys.

Happy Sunday -

I wanted to share BlockFit, an app we've recently launched in Brighton, England.

In doing so we've done our best to address the main pain-points felt by both Studios and Users of ClassPass, this sub-reddit has been a massive help in surfacing those so thank you.

For Users -

  • Credits. Never. Expire.
  • No subscription needed, just pay for the classes you wish to attend
  • Prices shown in cash, no need to do a sum in your head to work out what you're actually paying
  • Frictionless ways to commit, short term or long term, to a studio you discovered on BlockFit by buying blocks of class credits for that studio, or even a monthly subscription

For Studios -

  • Full control over pricing. You set your class price and that's what users see. If you wish to use dynamic pricing it's applied transparently with a floor price which means you'll never sell a space for less than you wish.
  • Transparent commission structure. ClassPass only guarantees you 40% of your class price, with BlockFit you'll keep no less than 85%.
  • Get to know your customers - as soon as they book their first class you can message them in-app, to welcome them, to follow up after, and to share offers for classes/memberships to keep them coming back. We want BlockFit to be treated as a sales funnel, something ClassPass actively obstructs.
  • Minimal setup. We'll scrape your public schedule and availability and do our best to push bookings into your existing system. We have a studio app for full control and visibility.

We're soft-launching with a couple of studios now that the apps are live, and will be adding many more studios very soon. Even if you're not near Brighton I'd love you to download the app and create an account so you can share your thoughts and hopefully we'll be in your city soon!

If you DO happen to be in Brighton let me know and I'll sort you out some credit so you can book your first class for free. If you're a studio owner who's interested in listing please do get in touch here or through the form on our website.

Cheers.

Danny

“Early access trial” which gives 0 credits instead of advertised 48

I contacted customer service to see why I have no credits though I signed up for a trial through the correct link. Apparently there’s an early access trial, randomly given to certain customers where instead of 48 credits you are instead given 5 workout classes. I’m a bit annoyed because 5 workout classes is at most 30 credits which is still 18 credits short, and I don’t really WANT to try workout classes.

Customer service is really unhelpful too. I’ve heard from several people that they like ClassPass and I was excited to get the trial to see for myself and I would’ve kept paying for it if I liked it. I feel super deceived now and I probably will just cancel instead

"Oops, something went wrong"

My wife and I signed up for a free trial through T-Mobile. She was able to go to 1 class, then received the error message. She re-entered the same credit card info, deleted and reinstalled the app, and restarted her phone without a fix. She contacted Customer Service chat and spoke with a Live Agent who briefly pushed for a paid membership. When she turned it down, she was told there would be a fix in a couple hours. That was on Friday night. Saturday, same error message. She spoke to an agent on Sunday, they said to wait another 24h. She just spoke to an agent today (Monday), told to wait another 24h.

My experience: last Friday, I made a reservation for a class on Tuesday - this was booked seconds before my wife's attempt resulted in an error. I ended up cancelling since the plan was to go together. I tried to book a class this afternoon, and received the same "Oops, something went wrong" as my wife did. My CS agent gave me "one solution" and was extremely pushy about signing up for a paid membership to fix the problem.

Coincidental pattern? Nah. This smells like a manufactured problem in order to absolve themselves of providing anything more than a few credits (out of 55 credits in the trial offer) to get people to pay for a membership.

Just wanted to throw a PSA out there if anyone else is going this route.

Oops- looks like something went wrong message

I have been trying to book at this studio & it won’t let me. It’s my favorite and I go weekly!
- Yes I have credits
- I can book at other studios
- My friends are able to book the class
- It’s ALL classes at only THIS studio. Studio has no idea why either.
- Payment method is fine

Help?!

Cancellation promo

Hiii so I’ve had class pass for quite some time and they would usually give me promos whenever I was going to cancel or just out of random. I used up my credits so I can cancel without losing them, and they offered 15% my next month. Do you think this is worth it? I’m not sure if there are better promos I can try to get before I get this offer.

Any insight would be appreciated, thank you !!

Classpass cancellation offer scam

I received an offer after canceling my membership. The offer states that as long as my membership renewed the next month, they will give me additional 15 credits. When I clicked on Redeem Offer after my membership renewed, it did not work. I tried emailing them (the same email that they emailed me with) and was told I was emailing them with an invalid email address and to talk to their bot instead. I talked to their bot and was told the offer will not work.

edit: i asked to speak to an agent through their chat and was able to connect to a live person. They were able to apply the offer of 15 credits to my account
