Visages Theories

So, I know the story so far leaves the origins of the Visages up in the air. It talks about how different Nations view them (some say they are actually different faces of the same goddess, some say they are heros who ascended to the top of the towers, and i think some say they are created by the goddess to be her subordinates...)

I have a theory. I think that they are completely unrelated to the goddess in their origins, and they only claim to be connected to her to give themselves a way to controll the citizens of the continent. I think they may be from another world entirely (like Ishael, the wielder of Soulbrand), and they arrived to the continent in a time when the goddess had stopped involving herself in the affairs of mortals, but mortals still reveared her, so it was simple for them to claim a vague connection to her and let the mortals come up with their own details...

Also, is Tenjin a male or female Visage? Bc I am re-listening to the first book and at first they used she/her pronouns when talking about Tenjin, but then they switch to he/him, I think... i'm so confused... like, Ketashi/Katashi calls Tenjin his brother...

Weapons & Wielders 4, Flowbreaker, is Up for Preorders Now!

Hello, everyone!

I’m happy to announce that Weapons & Wielders 4 is now available for preorder on Kindle, with a target release date of September 4th! You can preorder it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HDTZFRWW

You’ll notice that there’s a placeholder cover right now. The main cover art is now finished, but I’m still waiting for the graphic design pass to be completed, and I didn’t want to keep being ambiguous about the launch date forever, so I thought it was better to go ahead and put it up for preorder so people can start planning around the launch date.

I’m extremely excited to see what people think of this one, and I can’t wait to reveal the cover when it’s completed!

Best,

-Andrew

Question about sus things

So if Corin and Sera are both relative nobility even if Sera was a retainer, why wouldn't they have already known all the tricks to increase faster with the star veins etc? Is this assuming Magnus Cadence never knew? That seems unlikely since he is a renowned duelist.

Katashi's motivations (AA6)

Just finished up AA6 and Katashi's behavior remains one of the most perplexing things to me in this series.

Corin and friends seem pretty convinced that he's up to no good. Corin, in particular, is worried about him detonating their attunements for various reasons. We also know that Katashi was supposedly controlling Mizuchi, forcing her to take the memory crystal, although we never actually saw him do this. We also know that he supposedly tried to blow up a city and was stopped by Edria Song. But again this was a secondhand account and we don't know what was said to Song afterward that impacted her so severely that she ultimately disappeared.

I tried looking for some other discussions regarding Katashi on here, and from the little bit I found, it seems like there's a loose consensus that he's plausibly a Ser'vek. This would explain some of his outward behavior, but I find this theory difficult to buy into for a couple reasons:

  1. It would be way too obvious to us as the reader. I think Rowe clearly wants us to think along those lines, so my instinct is to assume there's something deeper going on behind the scenes.

  2. More importantly, I can't seem to reconcile why Katashi would give Corin an arbiter attunement if he had evil intentions for the world.

Katashi would have known what he was doing by giving an enchanter an arbiter attunement. Doing so deliberately created one of (if not the only) attunement combinations capable of thwarting his supposedly evil plans. Modifying sub glyphs enables Corin to break free of the attunement detonation leash that Katashi could use to control him, and now Corin can remove everyone else's leashes, too. This seems like it would be very poor planning on Katashi's part if he ever intended to actually make use of those attunement detonating functions.

So, Katashi's either very stupid or very much not trying to destroy the world, in my opinion.

I'm curious what some of your thoughts are, though.

Is it still the most likely outcome that he truly is a Ser'vek despite his apparent self sabotage?

Is he purely self-serving for some grand plan of fighting or replacing selys?

Has he been deliberately manipulating Corin into taking the path he's on? Potentially with the help of some future sight?

Was his public show of trying to blow up the city all a bluff and/or put on for show knowing that Song would stop him?

Has he been observing Corin much more closely than we're led to believe? Much like how it was revealed how much Vaelien has been observing Corin?
