JW Marriott Parrots “Retired”?
A friend just went to the JW Marriott Palm Desert and the aviary is permanently closed. According to hotel staff, the parrots have all “retired.” When she asked where they went, she said no one at the hotel knows. Does anyone know where they went? Or have any other information about what happened to the parrots? 🦜

Protests Tomorrow?
I feel like the most patriotic thing I can do tomorrow is to protest our authoritarian regime. Does anyone know of any protests organized for the 4th of July in the area?
Pool renovation company recs and experiences
Hi all, we bought our house about a year and a half ago and the pool, built in 2013, needs some cosmetic touch-ups. The primary issue is the flagstone coping is separating from the top of the tiles. We also wouldn’t mind changing the tile. We’re going to limp through Summer and try the repairs in the Fall.
Has anyone had pool renovation/structural repairs done? Was it a painful experience? Any company recommendations or stay away warnings? Thanks
why does half the valley not use their car blinkers?
reddit.comMoringa leaves
Hello, does anyone here in the valley have a moringa tree in their backyard, or know of any specialty grocery stores that sell the leaves? I would be willing to buy some leaves off anyone who has the trees, as I love eating them cooked.
Thank you!!

Data Centers and Foreign Influence
Wonder why you have seen so many posts against data centers lately? Surely it's just organic public sentiment, right?

eff.orgOutrageous SCE bill-help
We (fiance and I) are renters in Palm Desert. We rent a 1300 sqft condo that is an interior unit (so you would think well insulated).
Last summer was our first summer renting this place and by June our bill was around $500. That freaked us out and we were keeping it at 78 so we turned it up to 84... by July and August we were paying $700-800. We don't have kids, it's just us.
In August 2025 I reached out to SCE and they said the meter was fine and would not send someone out and were not concerned... So I reached out to our landlord and she was appalled at the bill as well, agreed something wasn't right, and sent someone out to check on things. He physically bent the registers (vents) open to allow more airflow, checked the fins on our condenser outside, check a few more things and said all was good and that we are just fucked because the HVAC system is old.
I don't buy this at all. Our neighbor on the end unit lives in a much larger unit with a GLASS ATRIUM inside and keeps her place at 76 during the day all summer. Her bill is never more than $300/400 in the summer. Several similar unit (all non solar) owners I have talked to in the complex have been floored when I tell them our electric bill and tell me theirs is no more than $200/300. Something is clearly wrong and I just want to know if anyone else in the valley has experienced a similar situation? Any insight welcome.
I don't know what else to do. Sweating inside in the summer while SCE bleeds us dry.
Restaurant Recommendations
We have been invited by friends in Rancho Mirage to stay with them in their home. We would like to take them out for dinner Friday July 3rd as a thank you for hosting us. Would greatly appreciate recommendations for either steak, American or any special cuisine served in a fun, not too fancy but not a dive restaurant in the area. We can drive if another nearby city is on your list to recommend. Thank you!
Best self cooling devices that work??
Native of Phoenix that used to spend hours and hours outside, especially as a child. Now in my mid 40s, I live like a vampire in the summer. Heat tolerance has plummeted sadly. In our summer climate here in AZ, does anyone find that they have found something that has been a game changer for them? I really want spend more time outdoors beyond running from the air conditioned house to the air conditioned car and then running into the air conditioned store. We all know the summer drill lol! I don't have a pool and don't know anyone with one. I do have the ability to drive to the lakes but I'm specifically seeking a self cooling device that actually works for around the house and light activity outside. TIA and stay hydrated out there!
Rental Nightmares in the Coachella Valley
Hello,
My family and I have been staying in various rentals around the Coachella Valley. We have noticed concerning discrepancies with what is being advertised vs reality. I wanted to share some of these properties as they were absolute nightmares to stay at and the hosts were more concerned with turning a profit over the safety of human lives. There is little to no oversight when it comes to these properties and I have brought this up with the third party sites that do business with these hosts. One host went as far as remotely changing and locking our thermostat to 89 degrees F while it was 116 degrees F outside. This is just ONE story of the insanity we have faced in this area.
Not cool: Data centers are creating ‘heat islands’ on land around them – warming them by up to 16 degrees, researchers warn
Just fyi, same phenomenon with solar farms
