9/11 Memorial in Indio, CA

On the 25th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the City of Indio unveiled a new 9/11 Memorial during its 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. You can see the new 9/11 Memorial in person at Miles Park in Indio, CA.

The public memorial is a reminder of the historical impact the attacks had on New York, the United States, and the world. On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger airplanes and flew them into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and were prevented from striking Washington, D.C. by passengers and crew in the fourth plane who fought back against the hijackers. 2,977 victims were killed on the day of the attacks, including plane passengers and crew, thousands of workers in the Twin Towers, and hundreds of first responders who were on scene to help. More than 9,000 more people have died in the 25 years since that day from cancers and respiratory diseases caused by exposure to toxic dust and smoke in the air that resulted from the destruction in lower Manhattan.
