Hi f26

It might just be me but does anyone notice how college station can lowkey be better at being civil like Bryan 💀 I feel like that’s the difference between snobby and Bryan’s southern hospitality (genuinely more kinder) even by the way pple drive you can tell 😭

Gaining Momentum in the Fight Against Flock

Attached is the most recent article about flock from KBTX and it highlights a lot of the concerns the nation is feeling with this type of surveillance.

That being said, We have an active group here in this community that regularly attend the city council meetings and have drummed up enough noise for the city council to place the flock contract on the agenda and up for discussion.

This is the time to use your voice and join us in the fight against this surveillance. Message me if you would like to be apart of our coordination as we plan for when the council decides to open the floor to discuss if we want these cameras to remain in our town or not.

Oktoberfest race

I decided today that I was going to run the BCS Oktoberfest half. It finishes inside Kyle field. Has anyone ran it before? How’s the course? Is there a decent crowd around campus or is it pretty quiet?

New here! Looking for outdoorsy friends in the area

Hello , i’m 26M , i recently moved here about 2 years ago and have been looking forever for clubs or meet ups that see geared towards meeting other hikers , kayakers , camping , or even hunting and fishing. i haven’t had any luck finding clubs or meet ups in college station or the surrounding area that are geared towards those interests. The only ones i could find are affiliated with Texas A&M. So is there anyone here in their 20’s or even early 30’s that are interested in kayaking the local waterways or hiking ?

Thanks in advance

Side note:

Sorry for having to make this post again from a new account. My old account had too many psychos and trolls throwing hate at me left and right due to having Texas in my username

I’ve also looked into the Brenham , Chappell Hill , Navasota , Anderson , La Grange , Somerville , and Giddings areas. I didn’t bother with Madisonville , Centerville , Jewett , Marquez , Normangee , Hearne , Calvert , Franklin , Marlin , Groesbeck , Mexia , Kosse , Coolidge , Caldwell , Cameron , Rockdale , Buckholts , Or Milano since the original 8 areas including College Station / Bryan didn’t give me any good results.

City Council's Discussion of Flock Cameras (4/23)

Just wanted to do a follow-up post and share some highlights from the last city council meeting (4/23) where Flock was finally brought up again in agenda item #7.4

Link to the full video is here. Resident comments start at around 46:15, and city council discussion begins at 56:47

The agenda item discussed was for a grant application aiming to use federal dollars to pay for the city's contracts with Flock. The project's cost (per year, I believe) comes out to $370,452 and the city currently has plans to install 72 cameras throughout College Station.

Some key points from the meeting:

  • More residents went up to speak against Flock this time around
  • The police chief was the sponsor of this item and defended the cameras, assuring the council of their effectiveness, security, and data-sharing practices
  • 4th amendment/privacy concerns were largely dismissed by the city attorney.
  • The grant application was written in such a way that the grant funds could not be used for any other public safety item besides Flock cameras.
  • One council member asked about our current ALPR provider and why there's a need to switch. According to the police chief, Vigilant Solutions, our current vendor, offers mobile units, whereas Flock is the first to offer fixed-unit installations
  • Some members, like Melissa, seemed open to further discussion of these cameras and possibly their cancellation at a future meeting
  • Ultimately, the council went ahead and voted to approve this item

I can understand why the council approved the grant (it was made clear that whether this item was approved or not, it wouldn't change the city's current contracts with Flock), but it doesn't change the fact this is all still being paid for with our taxpayer dollars, whether it's collected by the city or the federal government, and as such, we deserve a say in whether they stay up or not.

I want to thank everybody who showed up to speak, y'all did great! A lot of good questions were raised by both the council and residents, and if you want to join us at the next city council meeting today (5/18) at 6 PM, you can sign up to speak here. The deadline to sign up is at 2 PM.

New in town - Is it weird to go by a bar / club by yourself?

EDITED: I just moved here, in my late 20s(F) and have not made any girlfriends yet so I was honestly thinking of going to a bar / club to mingle but…is it weird to go by yourself?

St Francis Wolf Sanctuary in Navasota, TX

Is anyone going there anytime soon? I ordered a brick donation, but I live in Hawaii and will likely never see my brick in person. I would love a photo of it if anyone's willing.

Dr. Demon Rehoming

I unfortunately have to rehome my cat, I added info about him below and also the reason why.

I am hoping to find his forever home with someone who loves him as much as i did. I would love to get updated pictures, meet beforehand, and all that stuff!

I did contact the shelter and rescues for help on rehoming him, but they don't have many resources other than giving him up.

His name is Dr. Demon, I work in a research lab and thought it was fitting. He completely lives up to it, he's always doing something funny or bothering me for attention and pets.

I'm in a 2-bedroom apartment with a roommate and have a 10-year-old toothless cat who is really struggling with the dynamic between them. When the demon was first found as a kitten, my elderly cat took care of him and loved him, but the older he gets, the more my elderly cat sees him as competition. There's simply not enough space to keep them permanently separated, and the stress on my elderly cat has become too much. Demon is young, adaptable, and would thrive in the right home, rehoming my elderly cat is just not an option, he can barely handle a day somewhere new.

  • Found in a parking lot as a kitten
  • One of the most personable cats I've ever had
  • Greets me at the door every day like a dog, incredibly affectionate and always wants to be near you
  • Loves to play, chase things, and watch birds and squirrels out the window
  • Not a biter, doesn't hiss, has never attacked anyone
  • Been around large dogs, small dogs, and multiple cats, does well with all of them
  • Likely fine around children, though he hasn't been around them much, happy to do a meet beforehand to make sure.
  • A little shy with new people at first, so he may need time to adjust. He's been living with me since he was found, and he's just not met too many people before.
  • Indoor cat, sunbathes on the balcony but has never tried to escape
  • Loves interactive cat toys and lasers!

He would not do well in a quiet household alone with little interaction. He needs companions, attention, and room to explore. I dont have a lot of space in my apartment for him to grow, explore and not be bored.

He's a young and active cat, who loves people, other animals, and is always doing something stupid or funny.

I'm happy to meet, share more info or pics if you're interested in getting to know demon better!

Also, if there is a separate subreddit better suited for this, please let me know!

Affordable Vet Clinic in College Station? 🐶

Howdy!

I’m a current student at TAMU and have been looking into getting a puppy. I was curious what a good vet clinic would be to start consistently going to? I’m a student, and supporting myself, so affordability is very high on my list of priorities. Obviously I want a good and experienced clinic to go to, but I don’t mind traveling a short ways if the cost difference makes up for the gas it would take to get there. Thank you for any recommendations and advice!

Spurs Game at a Northgate bar?

Does anyone know where I can watch the Spurs Game tomorrow night on Northgate?! I’m not familiar with CS at all, but I am going there to spend the day/ evening with my daughter and her friends. I’m trying to figure out how to do that and get in the Spurs game at the same time without looking like the Spurs are a priority. lol. But surely both can be achieved?

avoiding unnecessary c-section

to all the women who have given birth in CS, which hospital do you recommend? I’m trying my hardest to avoid an unnecessary c-section for many reasons and even though my OBGYN is with St. Joseph’s (LOVE Jamie South), they have a way higher c-section rate compared to BSW.

i’ve read enough of the statistics and want to hear from real women who have given birth between these two hospitals before I make any decisions!!

Has anyone else had billing or cancellation issues with Row House College Station?

I signed up under a promotional unlimited membership for $69 and later submitted cancellation forms because I did not want to continue. After that, I was charged $199, which they explained as a $159 membership charge, a $25 returned payment fee, and a $15 late fee.

After multiple follow-ups and working with my bank, my account was eventually confirmed canceled with no future charges. However, the $25 returned payment fee and $15 late fee were not refunded.

I’m mainly posting to ask if anyone else has dealt with something similar and to warn people to read the cancellation terms carefully, save all emails/texts, and get every cancellation or billing promise in writing.

The classes may be great for some people, but my billing and cancellation experience was stressful and frustrating.

Help

Help! I’ve gotten into graduate school for my MSN in hopes of becoming a CRNA. I was denied grad plus for less than $5k in adverse credit I accrued when I was 19. I am 24 now, married (both of us messed up our credit when younger), I am a mom to a two year old and I have a solid gpa and really need someone who would be willing to endorse my grad plus loans. I can give you any supporting info you may need and I would be forever be in your debt and you’d potentially be investing in a future CRNA!! I start classes May 26th and really trying to figure out any way I can to attend school.

Hey yall! I love making quilts, but I have no need for more in my house lol. Do yall know of any organizations nearby that would take quilt donations? I just want them to go to a place where I know they’d be used and would be helpful to the recipient :)
