Thoughts on country radio today?

My friends & I were talking about songs and artists that are overplayed and artists not heard enough on country radio. It feels like every other song is Jelly or Shaboozey. What are your opinions are on country radio lately?

Graylan James

Does anyone else think he is super hot and super talented and infatuated with his voice? I've been listening to all his songs. He's amazing. I think he will make it big. 🤞

Bailey Zimmerman is the best

I think beside the massive country singers like Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs. Bailey Zimmerman has the best voice and also has the best catalog.

Thoughts on Avery Anna?

I didn’t know who Avery Anna was until the ACM awards and then became an instant fan- she has this really cool girl vibe going and is clearly a rocker my knit issue with her is that she doesn’t sound as country as I’d like.

Which artists fell off the hardest the past decade?

Past decade has seen a shift away from bro country and a lot of previously huge artists are now playing local venues instead of the huge venues they were selling out a few years back

I’ll start. Not all these artists are bro country nor do they have to be to have fallen off

Jake Owen

Brett Eldridge

Sam Hunt

Jon Pardi

Dustin Lynch

Russell Dickerson

Kane Brown (for obvious reasons)

Dan and Shay

Chase Rice

Scotty McCreery

Justin Moore

Justin Moore appreciation

I saw Justin Moore open for Riley Green last night after being a longtime fan of all his music. Dude absolutely nailed it, amazing show. He is definitely one of my favorites in the genre.

Why isn't Emily Ann Roberts more famous?

I’ve been thinking about this lately because I genuinely think Emily Ann Roberts has the voice. She can really sing, and there’s something distinctive about her sound—especially the mountain/Appalachian and bluegrass influence. She also had the backing of The Voice TV Show and mentor Blake Shelton (he definitely promoted her via tours, etc).

But at the same time, I wonder if she gets lost in the sea of blonde female country singers coming out of Nashville. There are so many talented women competing for attention that being a great vocalist unfortunately isn’t always enough anymore.

What I find interesting is that I actually think her more traditional, mountainy sound could be what sets her apart. She doesn’t feel like she’s trying to be another pop-country Nashville girl. She has a very specific country/bluegrass identity.

And honestly, I think her personality is another thing working in her favor. She comes across as really friendly, charismatic, and likable, which is something that can make a huge difference in building a fanbase. Her growing social media presence through Sasser House also seems like it’s giving people more of a chance to see her personality outside of just performing.

So she has the voice, a distinctive sound, a personable/charismatic presence, and now seems to be building more of an online following. That’s why I’m surprised she hasn’t broken through more by now.

What do you guys think? Is it just a matter of timing, label support, and exposure, or is there something about her that isn’t quite connecting with a larger audience?

Amy Kamm, lead singer of Raleigh alt-country/Americana band New Reveille, dies at 51

Amy Baird Kamm was a Duke nurse before becoming the lead singer of Raleigh band New Reveille. After she died in a house fire in Rolesville, NC, I spoke with her former bandmates about her life, music, and the years they spent performing together.

Sharing here because New Reveille was part of Raleigh's Americana/alt-country scene. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article316833300.html

I think Gavin adcock lip syncs at his shows?

Went to a music fest in my city, dude sounded good. Love the guy (get over it lol) but he sounded too good for the amount of hopping around. Idk why it dawned on me a few nights after. was just to smooth, idk. Even if mic technology has come that far to run down any external sounds every jump you take your voice fluctuates no matter what, right? (I can't sing to save my life so idk, he's a good singer imo, obviously they have better voice control but not to that extent, right?

running other people's videos back I don't think his mouth lines up the way it should/supposed to?

Maybe it's bc it was a Canadian show or maybe singing is a lot, doing it to much and needs to protect it, idk, I don't really care either. Just something I noticed and was wondering if anyone else has caught that or can also see it? Has thought it at all? If anyone goes to his show try to pay Attention and report back w your findings

Song that get sadder and more beautiful as you get older

What song gets sadder and hits harder the older you get?

For me, it's Neon Moon by Brooks and Dunn. After losing my wife of 30+ years I am the character they are singing about, the story they are telling is mine.

Is there one that gets you like that? One where it takes you back to the most beautiful time in your life and then, well...

Red Clay Strays Live

I recently started listening to them and like some of their songs so last minute I decided to go see them at MSG last night. I know they are not for everyone but I was so impressed. It was unlike any concert I have been to. I'm not really that into religion but the vibe there sure was - a few people dressed as angels and priests walking around the floor. I thought the music was great , love his voice and no political preaching at all (except before one song Brandon mentioning the entire band had different political and religious views). It was different and just a real fun time. He even brought out Zach Top for a song (then a couple for the encore). He said the producers wanted them to play a couple songs over again during the encores - seems like there will be a live album which if so I am looking forward to it.

Has anyone seen Chris Young live?

A friend and I are seeing him this week and I’ve seen so many posts on TikTok that he is drunk most of the time and people don’t understand what he is singing.

Has anyone seen him live and it’s a good show? I need some hope 😂

Wyatt Flores in Omaha over the weekend

Did anyone go see that show? I saw on Tik Tok, that he was cut off after a few rain delays, and then went into the crowd to perform acoustically. Said they could arrest him if they wanted to.

I love that! Giving the fans what they want!
