Millennial parents: Are any of you being super honest with your kids about how hard this world is going to be for them financially? How are you balancing reality with not making your kids basket cases?

Twenty years ago, working a fast-food job only priced you out of the rental market in major, high-cost cities. We’re the first generation raising kids who can't afford to rent an apartment on those wages anywhere in the country, regardless of how cheap the area used to be.

How are you handling this as parents? Are you ok with multi-generational living? I know that in the quiet conversations within my social group, I do have friends that dread the idea of their kids staying at home past young adulthood. Their kids are jerks, or they are...

I had a coworker who got divorced at 40 because her husband refused to let their daughter stay at home after college (he was 10 years older, she had a kid early). The daughter had legal trouble and was apparently seriously abusive. The daughter had nowhere to go, my coworker wanted the daughter to move back home, he said no... so she moved out and got an apartment and now lives with the abusive daughter.

How are you all approaching your kids and their futures as things become more and more different from how they were when we were getting out of college?

Just a tip- you don’t take height damage if you land in water, regardless of how shallow.

This may be common knowledge, or it may not, but now that you can free fall until you hit the ground except for a couple of seconds after your umbrella automatically deploys, it can speed up your game to just free fall into water if something you need is close by for quests, or if you want to hit a rivalry board quickly.

What jobs are around you that hire fast, pay better than minimum wage, and will get you working ASAP for those in need?

People regularly post in this subreddit asking what they can do to make a certain amount by such and such a time, or mention they have lost their jobs.

I always wonder if there are jobs, and they just don't know what they don't know.

I'll start- in the metro Nashville area, Shell gas stations can have you working within 3 days of being hired, and regularly do "on the spot" interviews. They pay around $12/hr.

If you can work overnights, Kroger in the same area will pay around $16/hr, and you can regularly start within a week and get 30+ hours.

A sign of the times. Blantons, Elmer T Lee, and Eagle Rare readily available on the shelves.

I pay a lot of attention to how things are going in the economy and in our city. Things are currently not going well for a lot of people.

This was the most “in your face” example I’ve seen of just how much spending habits have changed in our city and with our neighbors.

I took this picture yesterday.

2 years ago, in order to get a bottle of any of the above pictured whiskeys, you would need to buy a bottle that would allow you to qualify to buy them. You would then be forced to pay twice as much as you see on these labels. In the end, you couldn’t leave a liquor store in Nashville without paying $200 for a bottle of Blantons or $300 for a bottle of Elmer T Lee.

The prices are still inflated. Elmer T lee and Blantons both have an $80 MSRP.

But the fact that these are sitting on a shelf right now… when these prices would cause people to drive 6 hours two years ago is a pretty solid example that things aren’t going so hot right now.

Elder Millennial here. After a 26 year break, I built a Lego set yesterday. It is probably the most fun I've had doing anything on a weekend at home in years.

I was walking by the Lego store in my local big mall a couple of weeks ago, and there was a huge line out the door. A bunch of people were grabbing Star Wars sets, so my wife and I walked in to see what was going on. I think my jaw was dropping over a few of the several thousand piece sets. I was specifically interested in this one, because I'm a huge fan of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Later that week, she stopped back at the store and picked the set up and surprised me with it yesterday morning. I haven't had such a zen 10 hours in years. It was borderline therapeutic. Does anybody know if Legos are an HSA eligible purchase?? haha.

BERTHA: Grateful Drag is playing at Eastside Bowl in November. I HIGHLY recommend them.

They are Nashville based, on the right side of history, and they are all really talented musicians.

Melody Walker has a Grammy, and Caitlin Doyle is a super talented musician and a really cool part of the community helping groups such as second harvest.

You would literally want to be friends with everyone in this group.

I'm not affiliated with them, but as a Deadhead and a fan of really talented, really cool acts, I'd be super bummed out if I didn't see that tickets were on sale and missed them, so now you know!

This concert benefits Trans Aid Nashville.

For 15 years I've been told that being an IT manager was a bad move, and I should have learned to code to become an individual contributor. After a layoff, I'm now sitting on 5 job offers.

Everybody from my ex-wife to friends to neighbors always looked at me like I was crazy when I'd tell them I was a manager and not an IC at my company.

I never had an interest in learning how to write code, but I was always good at keeping the wheels on, understand the generalities of systems, and being able to distill complex projects into easy to understand powerpoint decks.

As international teams became more common, I became pretty good at keeping international staff happy as well.

I got laid off from a massive IT company 2 months ago. Since then, I applied for 10 roles. I got a pretty good severance, so im getting paid to find new jobs. I'm not in any real rush.

As of this morning, I have 5 job offers. All for international team management (I'd work from home). All with reasonably well known IT or IT-adjacent companies.

Sometimes, slow and steady wins the race. I'll never have the lifetime earnings of the IC's I manage, but it seems I'll also never be out of a job.

Delta Sky Club was the single most useful perk of any membership/club/subscription that I have ever had- regardless of the segment. I would fly 20-30 times yearly, and it was perfect. Are there any other perks you all use that may not save everyone money but offer significant value when used a lot?

I dont fly as much anymore, but when I flew regularly for work, the Delta Sky Club was something I actually looked forward to every time I would fly.

A lot of people don't even know it exists, and most people don't fly enough to make it worthwhile for them to have the expensive fees on the cards to get access.

But I'm wondering if there are there any other sort of things like Delta Sky Club or maybe not as well known clubs or memberships that save you money in some other area of your life that you use a lot?

Thoughts and feelings on Buf? Anybody using an all analog chain have one? Thoughts? Impressions?

I'm running a Technics SL-1500c to a Schiit Skoll to an Emotiva Preamp to a Vidar 2f out to RSL Speedwoofers (x2) and Super Lintons.

Wondering if anybody else who uses a pure analog signal has tried the Buf out.

Or if you haven't, thats fine, too! doesnt matter! I'd like to read about your experience.

What are your thoughts?

In the past few weeks, I've had over a dozen DM's of people asking me to try out their play tracker apps. I've seen a few posts about people having built apps that track what listeners play at home.

I don't understand why, though.I might be cynical, but the only thing I can come up with is that people want to gain some sort of prestige by being able to 'prove' that they have played DSOTM more times than anybody else. Otherwise, I dont see the value.

Anybody want to offer some thoughts on this?

How many full size (30ml+) bottles of ink do you own? I made new swatches today and I’m up to about 38. (A few aren’t included in this picture) I have probably 20 samplers as well.

The only ink I’ve ever replaced is Iroshizuki Sui-gyoku and Herbin Emerald of Chivor (not pictured because they stay at my desk). The rest are occasionally used and used with dip pens, but they don’t get as much use as those two.

ZB BR was getting to the point for me where it seemed like the maps were empty until there were about 5 players remaining, and then the game would finally get fun for the last couple of minutes. There were so many players that just didn't do anything until the end. I started playing Blitz because at least people didn't have a chance to hide out and I could get better at 1 on 1.

Now that the Rivalries option is available, it solves some HUGE problems. First, it causes more of the map to be used. Second, it prevents people from hiding out until single digit players are left. Third, it evens the playing field for people that have apparently gotten 90% of their kills from third partying. And 4th, which is the big one for me, it actually tests your 1 vs 1 capabilities and allows you to get better in the game mechanics vs. just hiding in a bush.

I hope they keep this around forever.
