Schiit comparison.

I have two moni gjallerhorn F s plugged into my Klipsch speakers they are plenty sensitive. When my friends are over I play music louder and I've been getting outside of a bias according to forkbeard and I've just barely tried the protection on the amps if I don't pay attention.

I was thinking of moving to a single aegir 2f. On paper it's about the same power but I think it would be in the class a bias more often and then I have the option of two mono in the future

Do you guys consider this an upgrade. I really would prefer the aegir over the vidar Incase anyone recommends that.

Coolest thing or maybe warmest thing?

I have had the Asgard X with Mesh Dac and Pietus Maximus stack for about 6 months. I have always turned them off after use, (few hours daily) almost daily. Then recently I forgot to turn them off, it was a busy couple days so I didn't have time to listen. but once I did, they just sounded more amazing? like leaving them on for days did something to them? am I crazy or is this a thing ?

Like more clarity and more engaging ?

Joined your Schiity club today.

I’m also using the Valhalla 3 as a preamp. I’m really liking this so far. It’s great for a desk setup - the feature that shuts off the preamp out when you plug the headphones in makes it really easy to integrate this setup into my workday.

I'm intrigued by the BUF, But currently only have the Magni and Asgard X (Both Meshed)

I've never had a tube before. But $99 seems like a deal for some entry level Tube Action.
I currently have a shelved Magni with Mesh and an Asgard X as a do-it-all.

If I decide to buy a BUF, my chain would be PC -> Magni at 100% pre-amp -> BUF -> Asgard X

I understand it would fundamentally work, but is it a dumb idea?

Should I get a Jottenheim 3 as a pietus maximus owner?

Hello,

Currently I own a pietus maximus (ess dac)and love it. However I would like to see if there is a substantial difference between the “tube like” sound signature vs something more neutral like the jot 3. Is there actually a substantial difference in sound? I only own the pietus so no other reference gear to compare to. I would like to avoid having a bunch of source gear that sounds largely the same.

Broken HI LO switch

Hello, I’ve got my old Schiit Magni 3 here and the HI LO switch decided it was going to break on me when I toggled it today. It’s good and stuck at an obtuse angle and I’ve tried shimmying it every which way to get it unstuck with no luck.

Because it’s now stuck in LO mode, my headphones aren’t being driven good enough. I’d like to avoid buying a whole new unit just because of a mechanical switch.

Would it be possible to remove the switch (just the red box, leaving the pins) and use some solder to make a bridge between the correct pins to stick to HI permanently? I have to right equipment, but am unfamiliar with how these switches work as far as what pins are doing what and what needs to be bridged.

Any advice, diagrams, etc would be helpful.

Thanks

I'm disappointed about r/iems opinion on the new Vestri. It's not spoon-fed clickbait, and it makes them hostile.

I know Schiit has a unique way of delivering marketing and technical data, but with the way r/iems is reacting to the Vestri, you'd think they can't read at all. All of the info is on ONE page.

Byggy love and…confusion?

So, I received the Byggy, coming off of a Gungnir 2 that has found a home in my office as a DAC position opened up there.

You’re read this all before, but I can’t believe how detailed this thing is, how great the soundstage is, etc. However…I also find it somewhat fatiguing, particularly with certain headphones (e.g. the Hifiman he1000se—less so with the HD800 and even less so with the 660S).

Have any of you had this same experience and, if so, does it eventually resolve? I’ve read several posts where owners claimed they let the thing run for 3-5 weeks before it “blossomed,” but that’s always seemed absurd to me.

Unless of course it’s true, in which case it’s not.

Care for Tubes

I'm still very much a vacuum tube novice and was wondering which is worse for the vacuum tubes in my beloved Schiit:

◆ Leaving it on for extended periods of time when it isn't actively in use

     – not for days at a time, but for when it is expected to be used soon
     – or daily occasional use with hours-long stretches in between sessions

◆ Turning it on and off more than once or twice a day

     – with the daily occasional use separated by hours of inactivity
     – perhaps a listening session in the morning and another in the afternoon or evening

I know they generate a great deal of heat, and I've always treated heat as the enemy of electronics, and made sure that cooling is a priority. However, the cycling between hot and cold can cause additional wear and is why I've always left my computer on (especially in the past when they contained spinning rust)...

I'm curious what advice or wisdom you might be willing to share about this conundrum. I've read conflicting and contradictory recommendations online, so thought here might be a good place to ask.

Thank you!!

Do you all keep you schiit on all the time or turn off when not using?

Schiit says they are cool with keeping it on but I was curious what everyone thought?

Valii 3 tubes rolling issues

Hey everyone,

I just received a 6SN7 to 5670 adapter for my Schiit Audio Vali 3, but I ran into a mechanical issue.

The adapter itself is too wide at the base and hits the metal top plate/grille around the tube socket before the pins can fully seat into the socket. Because of that, the adapter/tube can’t be inserted all the way down properly.

I’m using a standard octal 6SN7 adapter (5670 → 6SN7), and it looks like the Vali 3 opening around the tube is just too narrow for this specific adapter design.

Has anyone here successfully used a 6SN7 adapter with the Vali 3 without removing the top plate?

If yes, which adapter model/brand did you use?

I’d really appreciate links or photos if possible. 😄

Schiit Vali 3 6SN7 to 5670 mod.

Nothing special. I wanted to try out some different tubes on my Vali 3 so I bought an adaptor and ran into the issue of it not fitting through the top plate. I ordered a socket saver but it ended up not working, so I pulled the top plate got my dremel and did something reckless. It’s not perfect but I like it better than not having the additional height of a socket saver and it works.

Buf with Mimir and Jot3

I am thinking to get a Buf with a Jot3 Can I have it connected through RCA from Mimir to Jot and also have the Minir connected directly to Jot with XLRs and use the Jot to switch between the inputs. Any problem with this?
