Okay Schiit I hear you
At first I was a little skeptical about having to wait on my order to ship out for a few weeks. But…after staying up for late night music sessions countless times after work I can for sure say that I am hooked. The communication and customer service from Schiit has been great. So far I am loving my new setup. If you are thinking about stepping up your audio game and if music brings you joy, spend the money. Life is way too short.
I am new to the audiophile realm so feel free to send suggestions/tips/tricks.
Mimir -> Lokius -> Jotunheim -> Hd 800s
And then a Schiity holiday...
Well okay cheating in this photo cuz the Gremlin. But it's still all Schiity. The M21 is S/PDIF to a K13 then goes over XLR to the Lokius before being split RCA to the Midgard and XLR again to the Gremlin. For what ever sound I want or to solve whatever headphone challenge I have. Not that there ever is one with the Midgard. Thing is a beast.
Just Getting Into Audio, Some Assistance Please
Just as the post says, I'm just now getting into the audiophile world. I am into mostly singleplayer games with some fun competitive gaming here and there (Warzone, Battlefield 6, etc). I'm very much in the philosphy of "buy once, cry once." I was wondering if anybody could assist me in my thinking. I have the Sennheiser 490 Pro and I am looking into getting the Bifrost DAC and the Lyr 5 AMP. It's also a way for me to future proof myself for more powerful headphones and I have the money to pay for it, I just want to know if anybody have the same stack and have come to love their experience with it while gaming. Thank you to everyone that can and is willing to assist. I am also interested in connecting them to some nice computer speakers, was thinking of getting the Audioengine A5+, so if you all have any advice on that, that would be amazing! I appreicate the help!
GJALLARHORN and Monitor Audio Silver 100 7gs
Anyone use the G-horn with MA Silver 100 7gs? The speakers have 87.5 db sensitivity. Will the G-horn drive them?
Playing SACDs with Bifrost 2 or Freya+ (FAIL)
So yesterday I moved over my Yamaha DV-S5860 to my desk stack and put it under Freya+.
This is a ~20 year old unit that plays CD/SACD/DVD Audio/etc. It has coax out, S-video out, Optical out, RCA 2ch out and 6ch output to an AVR. Previously it was in the living room home theater setup.
So I decided to try it on both the Bifrost 2 (via Optical) and the Freya+ (via RCA). I hooked up both. I got nothing from each. I also backtracked and verified that the Bifrost was working ok with the USB from the PC.
At this point I would switch back and forth and neither worked to get output from the SACD player. The SACD player was playing, and the SA-CD indicator was illuminated, the track number and run time displaying. What I didn't do was put in a normal disc. I will try that next.
The SACD is a very recent release, the Atlantic 75th anniversary Genesis remasters (Selling England by the Pound).
So one reference said copy protection in digital format wouldn't work without an HDMI connection (to verify HDCP?). Also Schiit isn't paying any SACD license royalties.
As per Schiit: If you're using an SACD player, remember that it will not output digital content from SACDs. This is not our fault. Blame Sony's lawyers for that one.
So the Bifrost path will never work, just the Freya+ path.
The same reference also said that if the optical out was connected that the player might disable the RCA automatically. RCA output would not be copy protected. Also, if a hybrid disc, select the regular CD layer.
This seems to imply that the player should convert the SACD with its DAC then output to RCA.
https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/sorry-to-ask-this-sacd-question-but
So I am thinking
- Disconnect optical cable
- Test with normal then SACD to Freya+
How are other people listening to SACDs with their Schiit?
Another Schiity workday.
The Sys makes it simple to take a Teams call then get right back to what's important. And no one walks off with my headset cuz nobody knows how to get 250ohm working with their computer 🤣
Anyone else's Saga 2 just start clicking while idle?
I've had my Saga 2 for about 6 months, and it's kinda always done this thing sometimes where it starts clicking, it's the same noise as when you adjust the volume knob.
Sometimes it can be a lot of clicks. Sometimes it's just 1 click. Unfortunately I have no steps to reproduce.
Anyone have similar experiences?
Thank you!

Valhalla 3 or Pietus Maximus
I have lower impedance headphones (HE1000SE 35ohms, ZMF Bokeh closed 80ohms) and want the tube sound mainly for the Bokehs. From what I’ve read, both of these are solid contenders and around the same price. What would you recommend?
Base DAC/Amp - Magni Unity vs Asgard X vs Jot 3
I'm interested in going a bit deeper into my headphone setup and trying to determine what would be a the best pick for my base gear. I currently run HD 600s with a Topping DX3 Pro+ and I plan to pick up a pair of Meze 109 Pros and potentially DCA E3s.
I'd like to end up with a single DAC/Amp unit that serves as the default, but allows me to expand to EQs, alternative amps, tubes, etc. I'm not very interested in swapping different DACs so I'm satisfied with the mesh card that can be added to any of the three modular units. While I do occasionally move my gear around the house, I'm usually sitting right next to it so the cable runs and fairly short. My deliberation can be summed up into 3 basic questions -
- Are the balanced line outs beneficial in comparison to SE RCA when stacking other equipment?
- If all aspects of balanced are non-factors, why would I need the Asgard over the Magni?
I can see myself adding a Valhalla or Gremlin amp and either the Magni Piety or Pietus Maximus to the stack in the future. Speaking of, is there any audible difference between the NITSCH amps?
Which DAC/Amp best fits my use case of having a single piece of equipment serve as the default headphone setup, but also allows me to best utilize just the DAC and feed other amps if I'm looking for a different sound signature?
Edit: Thanks for all the feedback! I’m pretty well settled on the Asgard X at this point. It sounds like exactly what I’m looking for.
Looking for Schiit Equipment Racks!
I have tons of Schiit and other small form factor devices and need a nice multi-level rack for them that can be placed on the floor. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Don't talk to me or my son ever again
Recent upgrade. Couldn't be happier.
Schiit Kara/Mimir
I’ve been needing to get a new DAC for my office and active speakers. The Mimir seems to be getting great reviews and with forkbeard could be a digital preamp. I like the idea though of the Kara with its volume control and a headphone output.
I’m trying to really justify why going with this over something like the Fiio k13 to my partner though beyond I like Schiit stuff. What else am I going to notice about a much higher end pre amp?
Older modi 3 and magni heresy issues
Hi, I’m looking for some help troubleshooting a Schiit Modi 3+ and Schiit Magni Heresy stack I bought back in 2022.
When I first got the setup, I had no input sound whatsoever. I did reach out for support at the time and tried troubleshooting with the company, but I ended up moving shortly after and the gear got packed away and kind of forgotten about.
I recently found everything again and decided to go back and fully test it from scratch. Since it’s out of warranty now, I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything obvious before deciding whether it’s worth repairing or replacing.
I’ll be honest, I’m not super experienced with this kind of audio setup, so I’ve just been learning as I go and trying to eliminate variables step by step.
What I’ve tried so far:
Modi 3+ powers on and is detected in Windows
Audio is correctly routed to the Modi
Magni Heresy powers on normally
Tried multiple RCA cables
Confirmed correct routing from Modi line out to Magni input
Tested multiple 6.35mm adapters
Tested with Sennheiser HD58X and IEMs
Tried both gain settings
Volume tested across the full range
USB is in the correct input on the Modi
Result
Still no sound at all from the Magni, no hiss, no crackle, nothing
Additional testing
I also bypassed the entire PC and DAC setup and tested directly using a mobile phone into RCA into the Magni
Same result, completely silent
At this point I am leaning toward a hardware issue with the Magni itself, but I wanted to check with people more experienced with Schiit gear in case I am missing something obvious or there is a known failure mode for this kind of behavior
From one Schiit to another...
Got the Schiit Vestri about 3 weeks ago and here I am now with the Schiit Mimir, and it sounds fantastic! Now I am eyeing the Schiit Midgard to make a nice Schiit stack and my wallet is saying stop this Schiit.
Aegir or Vidar for KLH Model Three?
As per the title… I recently got a pair of Model Threes and currently driving them with a class d amp I had laying around. I definitely had noticed that the speakers come alive with more power so even though I would love to own an aegir I’m a little afraid of it being underpowered.
Listening position is around 3m away from the speakers and the room is mid-size…
Tube amp with HE1000SE?
Currently running a Topping 90D/Modious and I just ordered the Hifiman HE1000SE. I’m thinking about either adding the Buf and trying a couple different tubes or picking up a Valhalla 3. I know the SE is a lower impedance headphone so I’m not sure what will be the better route.
My Schiit stack: Modius → Lokius → Magnius, paired with Grado SR325 Classics
Finally sharing my desktop setup: Modius DAC into Lokius EQ into Magnius, all balanced via XLR, with my Grado SR325 Classics. Loving the clean stack
