I have a Sumiko Moonstone cartridge, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to up the gain or not.
I maybe want to eventually get better Schiit stuff when it is actually worth it to do so. Is it a good idea? I have heard that the cheapest Schiit stuff has issues, and I’ve had weird issues with my Magni regarding a weird noise when I turn up the volume, as well as a channel imbalance I’m not sure I made up. Should I upgrade to something better or would I be wasting my money? If I upgrade this stack, what should it be for? I have the stack connected to my Audioengine A2+ speakers and have Hifiman Edition XS and Sennheiser HD6XX headphones. I just think Schiit stuff is cool. I love the look and the sound. I also have a Mani 2 with my turntable setup.
I recently (and finally got speaker stands) and have them nicely separated from the walls in my room. However, I noticed something with the sound. (and this appears with my headphones too) The bass is no longer as precise as when I got it and the low end kind of blends into each other if that makes sense. (I am not an expert with audio frequencies and things). Since it has been almost 3 years, and the stylus is interchangeable with nicer ones from the Oyster Series Sumiko cartridges, is it time to upgrade? Thinking about either the Olympia stylus or the Moonstone stylus. Only a 50 dollar difference from each other.
