How do I straighten the handlebars on my new Giant AnyTour X E+ 3 (2024)?

Hi everyone,

I’ve just received a new Giant AnyTour X E+ 3 (2024), and the handlebars were shipped turned 90 degrees, parallel to the bike frame.

I’m trying to rotate the whole handlebar/stem assembly so that the handlebars are perpendicular to the frame and aligned correctly with the front wheel, but I can’t figure out which bolt I’m supposed to loosen.

The bike has an integrated adjustable stem. I can see the large side bolt marked “Angle adjust 14–15 Nm”, but as I understand it, this bolt is only for adjusting the stem angle, not for rotating the handlebars.

There also seems to be some kind of cover/access point on the stem, but I don’t want to force or remove anything without knowing what I’m doing.

Does anyone know this specific stem or bike model and can tell me exactly how to rotate the handlebars into the correct position?

I’ll add photos of the stem and the access points.

Thanks!

Buying an Ebike to take to work?

Just got a new job at a bank 2.2 miles from my house. The ride there would mostly on 1 slightly busy main road(not a highway of any sort). No sidewalk but a large shoulder.

Currently i drive a 2010 civic which i feel is sufficient enough but debating if i should buy an ebike. Not sure if id be able to park it at the bank but it shares a parking lot with walmart which i might be able to park it at.

My only concern is messing my hair up everyday riding to work.

Would this make sense to buy an ebike? so many options to buy im so lost

Looking for a basket/rack solution for my Tern

I have a Tern Vektron, which has their "Atlas V" rack (see pic). I'm looking for some kind of metal basket or case that i can throw my bag into, put a bungee cord over the top, and keep secure during my commute.

They say it's "KlickFix" compatible, but it's not clear if any of their baskets/boxes are compatible with the cargo rack on the Vektron.

Can anyone recommend something that might work?

Or is there a way to search for what is actually compatible with this rack?

Are there any bikes that are significantly shorter than a regular bike?

The entrance to my living space has an awkward layout that is a major hassle for a regular bike. I know that bikes with 20" wheels have a shorter wheelbase but they don't seem to make a big difference in the overall length.

Recommendations for "pretty" ebikes

Yes I'm probably gonna get roasted for this but I'm overwhelmed just trying to Google it. And I'm probably looking for a unicorn that doesn't exist.

I'm looking for a girly "aesthetic" ebike-- something that looks more like a classic/vintage "city bike" with a step through frame (C frame or mixte frame). Not as interested in "cruiser" styles which seem to be the main options in this category. Something that isn't super bulky looking. Something with fenders, rear rack, and front rack would be the cherry on top but not strictly necessary. Something with a mid drive motor, moderate power (500w or so), gears to handle moderate hills, and possibly some suspension to handle all the potholes and road problems here or if I were to take it on more of a gravel/woods trail. And yes, I'd love if it came in pink/pastels, but beggers can't be choosers.

The closest I've found so far is either the "BlueJay Premiere Lite" (though it's way overpriced for a hub drive, and the accessory prices are just silly) and the Murf Gigi, but both are hub drives rather than mid drives. Am I missing anything else? Or is this just a huge gap in the market? Why are so many ebikes just so "ugly" (or, if I'm being generous, more "masculine" or "aggressive" styled). I know I'm not the only person in the world who cares about bike aesthetics and wants something "prettier" but also better than a hub drive!

The best purchase this year

I'm enjoying my ebike so much. I'm more of a laid back rider, my bike is purely for leisure purposes. Hence the cruiser style I went for... It also makes it easier to take our dogs out on rides for longer periods without getting too tired.

My Murf Gigi, I love it💚 it goes 20 on throttle 25 on pedal assist. Most days I don't go over 10/11 mph.

Is a budget Globalkeep Soleix8 worth upgrading or should I save for a better platform?

Recently picked up a Globalkeep Soleix8 because I wanted a cheaper way to mess around with electric dirt bikes before spending serious money. So far it’s been fun for what it is.Mostly riding gravel roads, loose dirt, forest roads, easy trails, and some muddy sections after rain. Nothing crazy. No jumps, no track, no top speed runs.

Now I’m already thinking about upgrades, and that’s where I’m stuck.Tires and brakes make sense. Maybe bars and pegs too. But once I start thinking about controller, battery, and suspension, it feels like I might be better off just saving for a better platform later.I’m not trying to turn it into a 40kw monster or pretend it’s something it isn’t. I just want it to feel more planted and less sketchy in loose dirt.

For people who started with a cheaper e-moto, was it worth upgrading?

Or did you eventually wish you had saved the money and moved to a better bike sooner?

What surprised you most after buying an e bike

I have been spending a lot of time reading reviews, but I am more interested in hearing real experiences.

What surprised you the most after buying your e bike?

Was there anything that turned out to be much better or much worse than you expected?

I want to buy a reliable and reasonably cheap chinese e-bike that will have range of about 50-70km, what model would you recommend?

I need an E-bike, and due to being in Russia my choice is limited to chinese models. I consider Kugoo V3 Pro Max, but ive heard it needs to be waterproofed after purchase to avoid damage in the rain. Bike preferrably to be comfortable for commuting, it doesnt need to be super sporty thing.

Price, reliability, 50-70km range and weather resistance are top priority.

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

You Walk Up & Someone Is Stealing Your Bike. What Do Do? Make A Plan !

OK, so you get out of the grocery and make your way to the bike rack and see three guys trying to steal your bike. They have a cordless Dremel and are working on cutting your disc lock. 2 alarms are going off from the bike and these guys are calm as can be standing there like they are entitled to your bike.

Do you approach them? Do you call the cops? Do you get physical or ??

Let's say they are really close to finishing cutting the locks and the police can't get there in time? What would you do then? What if they are aggressive and approach you?

This is worth thinking about before it might happen. Discuss!

Replacing a car with an E-Bike

Currently looking at getting a Segway Xyber or the new Ariel Rider Grizzly. Need range and speed when I want it. Typical commute is roughly 10 miles. City is pretty lax on e-bike regulations. What other viable options with that speed, range and price point are there? Currently using a regular pedal bike to get everywhere which I love, but it’s getting pretty old going up a hill at 3 miles an hour with the wind in my face and cars getting mad behind me.

YouTube is My Customer Service

Every request for bike recommendations is inevitably met with replies suggesting customer service is the most important element of any selection. Is this really true? More important than cost, features, performance, comfort, reliability, and value?

Sure, I get it. Not everyone is capable of fixing their bike. But with a small investment in tools, a bike stand, and some patience, almost anyone can learn the basics that will cover about 98% of issues. YouTube will show you how to install, lube, and adjust chains. How to change tubes and tires. How to replace cassettes and derailleurs and fine tune shifting. How to bleed brakes and replace brake pads. Even how to upgrade your MTB fork.

In six years with over a half dozen ebikes, I've needed customer service once for a failed motor. Is it really worth paying 50% extra for what is perceived as better customer service or settling on a an inferior bike with mediocre components? Ride1up has some of the best offerings but many shy away for want of a convenient dealer.

Customer service has real value, particularly for novices. But does it get weighted too highly too often? Why isn't there more emphasis on being self-sufficient?

Looking for a new bike

Im looking to buy an e-bike but I don’t know which one to buy. I’ll be riding up and down hills big inclines for long stretches and was wondering if there’s any good bikes for hills and inclines. I noticed that a lot of e-bikes struggle with inclines and was looking for one that doesn’t. Something cheaper preferably I know that’s hard to get for what I’m asking but I’m open to any answers

Can We Talk About How Bad Bike Theft Has Got?

Guys, can we talk about how messed up thieves are?

Everywhere I go, people keep telling me, "Your bike's going to get stolen." I've even had people tell me some thieves walk around carrying tools specifically to break bike locks.

I'm at the point where if I can't see my e-bike or a car parks in front of where I left it and blocks my view, my heart instantly drops. It's genuine panic.

It's not even because I'm attached to the bike itself. It's because without it, I can't work. I'd have to go back to a 9-to-5 job with no freedom, and that absolutely destroys my mental health.

Stealing an e-bike from a delivery rider isn't just stealing a bike, it's stealing someone's livelihood.

It genuinely disgusts me that people can do that to someone just trying to earn an honest living.

How do you manage curb edges with an e-bike?

I often thought those bike "handling skills" that young riders or experts do on bikes don’t really apply to me, they feel too fancy. When I need to get over a curb, I usually stop and go up slowly, or I just go straight at it (banzai!), until now it worked, even if it made a big “boom”.

But recently I fell because of a curb: the road level and the curb base were not aligned like usual. I tried to park next to it before my move, and my wheel hit the base and I fell.

So I’m wondering how people deal with curbs on e-bikes. Should I stick to flat roads only, or should I learn how to hop curbs?
My bike is 81 LBS.
