Ideas on Recreation of Celtic Myth

So, I have some general ideas of what fills in the blanks in the myths of the Tuatha De Dannan that we don't have clear ideas on- the world rises from a cosmic void, the Formorians make the world, the Tuatha begin with a rebellion by a trio of male deities (Dagda, Ogma & Lugh) & a trio of female deities (Munan, Macha & Badb), Balor is killed & the Formorians pushed back, the Tuatha expand, Dagda makes men in his kettle as the Fianna, Ogma makes women, the two meet & the women civilized the men, at some point the Tuatha had discovered the Underworld (likely through death & reincarnation themselves) & go there, leaving the earth to men. But, there were several blanks, even in this, that I didn't quite know how to fill in, but I think I may have cracked it.

I assume several old stories that aren't directly referencing gods/ goddesses as the characters, but involve acts that seem to require Gods likely had their narratives lifted from the lore of the gods & goddesses, though the characters themselves are distinct people & are only mirroring the gods. So, I looked for stories that could link to stuff we know was about specific deities to see if I could reconstruct how & why the whole rebellion against Balor occurs & I think I mostly cracked it. I may not be 100% positive on all the details, but I think I'm heading in the right direction.

So, Dagda, Ogma & Lugh all establish kingdoms on the surface of the earth & expand, but Balor is a cruel tyrant who can't stand the prosperity they found in that realm, so he begins demanding harsh tribute & lays down the law as the true king. This angers the three enough that they form a military alliance & declare war on the Formorians, but there is the matter of Balor & Beira's 3 daughters, Munan, Badb & Macha. They believe if they can turn them, they can create a cascade effect, which will erode Balor's power & leave him vulnerable to defeat in combat. Dagda tries & fails to seduce one of the 3, so he turns her into a deer in anger. She, in turn, is told to flee to Ogma's house, where she will be safe. He recognizes in his wisdom who & what she is & frees her from the spell, later taking her as his wife. This is why, in the forms of Ellen of the Ways & Cernunnos, the two have deer antlers & also explains their connection to hunting, in a way.

As the battle continues, Dagda is mortally wounded. He manages to hold on seemingly fine for several years, but does eventually succumb to the wound & dies at a sacred river. The daughter of Balor who killed him decides to claim his kingdom, but Ogma & Lugh object because she is a woman, which leads her to declare war on them herself to force them to view her as equal, also leading to the death of Ogma. In the end, Lugh decides to surrender & accept her as his equal, marrying her himself.

Later, by whatever means, Dagda & Ogma are revived from the dead & reunite with Lugh. (I still don't quite know how this part works) This drives the final sister, Munan, into insanity & she wanders into the wilderness for a time before she is found & finally pushed into marriage to Dagda. This final interconnection of the six brings many of the Formorians to turn against Balor & join the Tuatha De Danaan & Balor is finally killed by Dagda in battle. The remaining Formorians surrender &, in turn, Beira is allowed a place amongst the Tuatha & her son, Lir, becomes king of the sea in his father's absence.

Keep in mind with Ogma, I am under the current belief that Ogma is the same deity as Cernunnos, Sucellos & various vague Celtic mentions of both underworld gods & hunting gods & that the story of Fionn Mac Cumhaill has essentially lifted almost his entire role in Celtic mythology. I think he created women due to the women being found underground by men in both an Irish story & a Welsh one (ie, the Underworld) & the fact that he's treated as a god of wisdom & civilization & the women seem to civilized the men.

I also somewhat like that the three male gods & three female gods all have different aspects of peak masculinity & femininity. Dagda is the ruler, the father, the archetypal druid, etc. Ogma is wise & artistic. Lugh is passionate & a warrior. All 3 are needed in their own ways. Meanwhile, of the 3 women, one is timid, one is aggressive & untamable & one is possibly the archetypal female druidess, a carer & a mother figure.

I was unsure given the story I lifted some of this from whether the aggressive one was supposed to be with Lugh or Ogma. Does she go with the archetypal warrior, or the one wise enough to know what to do about her? But, I was already almost dead positive that the story from Fionn was supposed to be about how Ogma got his wife & it does make some general sense that a warrior making peace with a fellow warrior & then the two marrying makes just as much poetic sense here. In this case, she would possibly be the only woman he would ever consider his equal.

As to the part where they were sharing rule every seven years, I think it's possible that this was misplaced. We have enough info on druidic calendars to know that they had no special seven year period, but they did have a sacred five year period. Seven is a number sacred to Christians & Romans. I think it may have originally been every five years & had some sort of sacred intersection with that calendar & the Christian writing it down misinterpreted it & changed 5 to 7 so it made sense biblically.

Real or fake?

I am not Canadian & it's been a while since I've seen one of these. Heard 1996 is a fairly common year for fakes.

So far as I can tell, I don't see any signs it's not real, but I wanted to run it past actual Canadian numismatists real quick.

New Additions

Trying not to go super crazy. I picked up a Flying Eagle penny, a V Nickel & a steel penny this pay & have a 2026 half dollar in the mail after determining that none of my area banks have them & the cheapest thing I could do was just buy one off an online seller.

Pawn shop gave me a deal, since I bought 2 coins & a $40 video game & his card reader was down, so I had to use his atm- so the flying Eagle, v Nickel & game were only $65 altogether.

I guess the steel Pennies aren't worth that much, because someone else gave me that one for 10 cents. So, now, I just need 1 more wheat variant & 2 indian head variants & I'll have all the circulated small cent designs.

Yaupon

This will probably piss some of you off, but after looking into it, Yerba Mate is closely related to 2 other species of plant with similar properties- Guayasca & Yaupon, the second which grows wild in Florida.

So, I went ahead & bought some Yaupon... honestly, not bad. The taste is virtually identical to Green Tea, its got the caffeine & the theobromine. I could get used to it.

Also, I took advice from Yerba enthusiasts & didn't use boiling water on the Yaupon, which the packaging suggested. Definitely less bitter, so the green tea taste was actually somewhat enjoyable black.

I do think I want to try & compare to Yerba & Guayasca, though, to see which one I prefer overall.

Not intended for circulation- found in circulation

I thought this was new, but the date on the side says 2010. Apparently, these were never meant to be used as money. Went to a local laundromat- because they have a dollar coin dispensing machine for some reason- to see what all I could get with the bills I had on hand & this was one of the coins that came out.

EDIT: OK, so they started minting this series in 2009, there are about 17 different designs. They stopped intending these designs as real money after 2011, but continued making new ones. Since they started circulating them, people generally have a mixed concept as to whether most of these count as money, but a 2010 design was intended as real money, apparently.

Did anyone else know about this?

Apparently, the singer of the Hurricanger theme did a whole series of Power Rangers theme covers in English about 4yrs ago. I stumbled across them on YouTube today.

Some of the unique coins in my collection

Most of these are just from me working at a store. People often accidentally spend foreign money they brought back from trips/ vacations which look similar to American money. A couple I bought directly. One of them is one set of my US Territory Quarters, a six coin program that only lasted 1 yr (2009) which I think a lot of people sleep on. I only knew about it because the US State Quarter book my family bought for me to fill out as a kid included a page for that, claiming it was just in case this rumored future set ended up being minted.

Otherwise included are (in no particular order) are 3 Bahamas coins (Penny, Nickel, quarter), a Bermuda Nickel, a Cayman Islands Quarter, an English 10 Pence, a 5 Eurocent & 2 Eurocent, a Swedish 10 öre, Hungarian 20 Forint, Romanian 50 Bani, Polish 10 Groszy, 3 special recent Canadian coins, as well as a Canadian George VI Penny & a Rock Dove Penny, a 1 Franc, a Hong Kong 1 Dollar, a 1964 Silver Dime & an 1889 Indian Head Penny.

Spice Garden

This generally works better for me, because they grow slower inside, once fully established. So many spices are no longer usable once they start flowering, so this will space out the time I can harvest from them longer. The table is light enough, I can reposition it regularly to try to keep them from flopping over, but a few of these might need some more dirt at some point. This table has a water reservoir underneath it, but I am also top watering. I suppose this is mostly just keeping it humid underground, but not really soaking up the water under there.

Contains Thyme, Sage, Basil, Spearmint, Terragon & Dill. I also just picked up some half price Rosemary & Marjoram seeds which were just added where I saw some room.

Cushion

OK, I've got my bike working about where I am comfortable- I have 2 batteries that are giving me a combined 15 mile distance on medium, but now the issue I am having is with comfortability.

I used to bike a lot (apparently improperly. I always kept the bike on the highest gear & just aggressively pushed myself til the bike was at top speed just so pedaling wouldn't be hard), but manually pedaling requires a lot of occasional stand up pedaling & moving around, whereas the bike, I am mostly sitting in place for hours at a time. It's leading to issues I didn't used to have- numb penis, aching tailbone, etc. I can't stand-up pedal for very long, because the lack of tension on the pedals due to the engine it turning it into more of a balancing game & exhausting me rapidly. I don't necessarily want to replace the whole seat, but I need some means to keep myself relatively comfortable. The numbness is easy enough to fix by just taking a break, but the butt pain is less so.

Screwed up Dream I don't Think I can post in normal places

But, I have to tell someone-

So, you know the comic Youtuber Kyle Gordon- does a lot of history based skits & makes funny music videos?

Had a dream he was doing a whole concert that I was watching on TV. You know how there are some bands that do weird crap on stage for shock value- biting heads off bats, throwing sheet cakes at the audience, m*sterb*ting, etc? For whatever reason, he decided to put a fully nude woman on his shoulders then, the camera changed to a physically impossible angle where it was shooting down her back & his face was at perfect eye level with her anus. He proceeded to full mouth lick her butt while staring at the camera. Not happily, either. Had a look on his face like hed done this 15 times this week & was over it, but everyone expected him to do it.

How much to Replace?

At one point, I had a small coin collection & my grandmother and other had also had a few historically significant coins before she died. They pretty much all got stolen, mostly by a drug addict aunt & one by a cousin of mine.

After looking into it, I am still missing a Mercury Dime, a Canadian Twoonie & a random coin from Tanzania that I am not incredibly worried about at the moment. My grandmother had a Morgan Dollar, a standing Liberty dollar & an Eisenhower dollar.

Roughly, how much am I looking at to get all of this back- no proofs, no reproductions, no rare defects?

Just tried for first time- noticing a lot

So, this stuff made me feel really weird. Wired for a couple minutes, then evened out into an extremely calm state. I looked up what was different & saw that it has caffeine, but also a chemical that causes your body to process caffeine in a slow, steady drip & another that has an extreme calming effect. So, I felt very present & focused for the first time in a long time because it was cutting ky anxiety a bit.

Unfortunately, it is making me notice that I have some very serious issues. I have OCD & Social anxiety to the point where I am under a constant general level of stress & anxiety no matter what, so that is my new baseline & my body doesn't even register that as stress, however I am still suffering from the effects- I have extremely low energy or drive or motivation to do much of anything ever. This drink did not turn that off, but gave me a temporary lower baseline to where I could actually see what was causing severe stress & anxiety reactions for the rest of the night & its not good.

I was at work as an assistant manager & was the closing manager on duty. I decided to go get carts from the lot. The second the thought finished, I was hit with a wave of stress similar to when you realize that your life is over if something isn't done by a certain date/ time & you can't imagine how you're going to accomplish it. It wasn't because I didn't want to get the carts, it was because I had just assigned myself a task & was instantaneously overwhelmed that it wasn't already done. When I got out there, as woman & 10 elementary aged children got out of a car & all the kids started at me blankly for a minute, which freaked me out, then we all walked back in the store simultaneously, which caused another wave of stress. As we closed, my cashier being stressed out about getting her stuff done was stressing me out. When we got in the office to count down her drawer, at one point, I leaned forward in my seat a little. My brain interpreted this as an anticipatory action towards something physically strenuous, like running a marathon & I got another wave of stress. She also kept talking to herself about what she was doing & telling me if she thinks her drawer needed stuff. Every single time she spoke where it wasn't actively part of a conversation I was choosing to have with her stressed me out. I got in my car to go home & running back through the cart thing in my head gave me stress again. WTF

Want simple upgrade to Walmart ebike

Was probably going the way of a second battery, but I wanted to get an idea of what my options were. This thing can only do about 5 miles one way on high & somewhere between 7-10 on medium & has a 36v battery & a 350w motor. It's one of those black, trapezoidal shaped batteries that has a 4 pin connector & locks onto the bike via a key & it mounts vertically, under the seat. It's designed as a folding model & there is only 1 bar connecting the front of the bike to the back.

New Titles.

I found a small thrift store a few blocks from my new house. They must be just out of the way enough, their dvds hadn't been completely picked over, so I was able to get a bunch I was missing for just $11. I haven't got a chance to test them, yet, though. Other than some light scratches & a few having dirt smudges, they all looked fine, though.

Second pic is some other new acquisitions I've picked up recently. I'm glad Walmart decided to stock up on the entire Demon Slayer series before the first Infinity Castle movie dropped on bluray, because I had only seen the Mugen Train movie & never got the watch the series arc version.

Yes, I realize I should have had a lot of these a long time ago. You'd be surprised how many obvious films you would think no film buff would be without I am missing. No, I did not care much for the Zombie Island sequel.
