I've drunk mate all my life, but ever since I tried this idea I saw on this sub, I can't go back to normal mate, I need the citrus flavour now. Grapefruit is my favourite 🤤

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a good all-in-one / ready-to-drink mate thermos that I can use on the go. I’m talking about those travel cups where:

There’s a separate compartment for loose yerba mate

A thermos section for hot water

An integrated bombilla/straw built into the lid

Everything is sealed so it doesn’t leak when carrying it around.

I want to be able to put yerba in, add hot water, and drink directly from it like a normal mate without having to carry a separate gourd and bombilla.

Has anyone tried these kinds of products? Are they actually good in practice or more of a gimmick?

- Do you recommend this specific one or others?

- Any brands or models that work especially well?

- How long does the water stay hot?

I’ve been drinking yerba mate for years and really enjoy it, but I still struggle with two specific things and would love your advice.

1. Keeping the yerba piled nicely on one side

I prepare my mate the traditional way I’ve seen in many : shaking the gourd, tilting it, and leveling the top with my hand so the yerba forms a nice slope on one half. However, as soon as I add water and stand the gourd upright again, the pile collapses and the yerba spreads across the bottom.

How do you keep it properly packed and slanted on one side even after adding water? Any good tricks with the filling amount, shaking technique, or when/how you insert the bombilla?

2. Constant clogging with Barão Mate

I love the taste of Brazilian Barão, but it’s extremely fine and powdery. No matter which bombilla I try, it clogs very quickly. I’ve already experimented with the 45-degree insertion technique and a few others, but it still happens almost every time.

Has anyone found a reliable way to drink Barão without constant clogging? Or do most people switch to a different bombilla type or even avoid this yerba for traditional use?

For comparison, I have very good experiences with Argentine yerbas like Liebig and Rosamonte, they are my favorites next to Barão.

This mount turned out perfect

Canarias always does it for me, really loving this one infused with a bit of green tea. Sometimes when I really want to get the full notes of a Yerba, I like to drink out of stainless, so the Messi 🐐 set is always great !

Le hice una actualización a mi mate, ya que se veia aburrido y nunca sabia a quien le tocaba.
Características:

- Conexión por bluetooth con aplicación para configurar rondas, alarmas, seteos, etc.
- Opción de enviar los datos a la web, y registrar en un mapa la ubicación del uso del mate, los participantes y el total cebado.
- Visualización en pantalla de temperatura, numero de mates cebados, a quien le toca.
- Batería independiente para varia horas de uso.
- Alarma sonora. Botón de encendido. Puerto usb-c de carga.

Ahora le hice una base transparente para que se vea todo el circuito y se vea mas tech.

EDIT: Mi intención no es meterme con ninguna tradición. Solo estaba aburrido. Ningún mate ha sido maltratado (solo un par de agujeros)

Not the best pack, still getting some stuff throw the straw. Any tips on how I can make sure it’s smooth and more filtered?

Siempre me cuestione en q momento se colocan los yuyos en el mate antes de la yerba, durante o a lo último.

The electricity went out at home, and most of the things we use are electric. Since our house is still new, we have not installed gas yet, and the gas cylinder we usually buy had also run out, almost as if it happened on purpose.

It was a very cold day, and as true mate lovers, my mom and I really enjoy drinking mate together. Three years ago, my mom was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), and ever since then, I have felt an even stronger desire to enjoy every moment with her.

She asked me if I could make a fire to heat the kettle so we could have some mate together. It made me laugh because I only learned how to make fire recently, but I decided to try. I made the fire and prepared some delicious mate for us.

At that moment, I realized there was no better reason to keep sharing mate together. Ironically, right after everything was ready and the fire was going, the electricity came back.

What did I learn from this experience? Sometimes, it is worth stepping away from the routine, leaving the comfort of the kitchen, and enjoying a warm mate outdoors, surrounded by nature. And above all, there is nothing more meaningful than making my mom happy and fulfilling a simple wish she had.

Como va gente, les queria hacer una pregunta, es normal que a mi mate de calabaza recien comprado se le filtren gotitas de agua por abajo el primer dia que empece a curarlo?

Lo compre nuevo, puse yerba nueva y moje con agua temperatura mate (no se si es la forma ideal pero es la que mas repetida vi cuando busque, cualquier consejo se agradece). El tema es que despues de un rato, en la base habia gotas que se habian filtrado por la parte de abajo, no esta rajado ni nada, se filtro a traves de lo que vendria a ser el tallo de la calabaza, o donde se agarra el tallo mejor dicho, es normal? termino de curarlo y eso se arregla? lo llevo a cambiar?

Los del lugar en donde lo compre me dijeron que puedo ir al local pero que primero termine de curarlo y no respondieron mas, muchas gracias de antemano
