Solasta: Crown of The Magister, final thoughts after completion

I'm very late to this, but I finally beat COTM and both of its DLCs and I wanted a place to talk about it.

I ended up buying the game after beating BG3, with Solasta being one of the main games recommended to play after.

I love how it starts with your party literally meeting in a tavern, and while the voice acting isn't technically great, I think it has its own charm. My party was a Gnome Bard, Dragonborn Paladin, Half-Orc Fighter, & Dwarf Rogue.

The plot is mostly just there, but I think it has some nice twists & turns I didn't see coming and it's not bad. The Soraks are good villains, pretty difficult to fight if you're not in the light and their shapeshifting had me double guessing a lot of the NPCs. The final act ends with an appropriately epic bang.

Palace of Ice was a really fun sequel campaign, getting to play in an icy wasteland and with higher level spells. Demons were a nice additional threat, alongside the cold itself. I found the plot mostly the same, though I did enjoy it. I love the finale where you literally go to Hell to fight an Archdemon.

The Lost Valley was less enjoyable (I sequence-broke it something fierce, and got an ending that made little sense) but I still had fun. The setting was unique, the new enemies were fun, and I really liked the NPCs. I mixed up my party this time, using a Tiefling Warlock, Human Wizard, Halfling Druid, & Dwarf Cleric.

Graphics: characters don't look good, but I like the environments. Solasta 2 looks like it's a big leap forward graphically.

Soundtrack: it's a bit short, so a lot of the OST gets repeated, but it's genuinely great and I hope the same composers return for Solasta 2.

Enemies: I love the variety. Soraks are a cool original enemy, and while their designs are classic, I enjoyed getting to fight Orcs, Giants, Goblins, Trolls, Ogres, & Dragons.

I think I prefer the gameplay to BG3. Being able to ready actions is a major plus, as is flight actually letting you fly up into the air. Being grid based makes things easier to aim, both spells & arrows, and the somatic components of spells had me having too double think my original strategy.

Solasta 2 looks good so far, but I'll have to wait until it gets to console. In the meantime, stay in the light my friends.

Are Amethyst used for anything?

Currently playing A Giant Problem user campaign. I have a bunch of Amethyst in my inventory. It doesn’t say they are an ingredient and not sure if it’s used for crafting. Are they spell components? Can I just sell them off and make some money?

Elven Accuracy feat not working

Is anyone else having problems with this feat? I put it on an elf weapon master with Revenant Blade and a greatsword. For some reason it still seems to be rolling 2 d20s for attacks when I have advantage.

Finished the Dev Dungeon Crawls

Just completed the 'Caer Falcarn' and 'Dun Cauin' set of dungeon crawls.

If you are looking for a low story, high combat dungeon crawl these will be fun. If you want more story, then you may find these a little lacking.

I used port from wildlands camp to go back, but quest is still active. Tried to speak to mayor, but nothing happend. Will it resolve later, or am I stucked?

Edit: not bug or stuck, will resolve later.

Should I buy the add-ons?

I recently bought Solasta in the PS sale for about €8. While creating characters, I also ended up purchasing Inner Strength for €5 cause I really wanted to make a bard.

I’m having a great time playing the game despite that it’s a little dated and the UI text is a pain to read on a TV.

The remaining add-ons are still on sale for a couple of days, and even though I’m only 20 hours into the main campaign, I’ve been debating if I should buy them now before the sale ends.

Are the add-ons generally regarded as fun/nice additions? It would only amount to €20 if I bought the remaining ones, but still, if people generally didn’t like them, I’d rather keep my money.

I have like a 1000 hours into BG3, so I don’t mind a little repetition.

EDIT: Just bought them all! Thanks for the advice

will the game get better?

hi!! i played crown of the magister for like 5/6 hours, i was having fun for the first 2/3 hours but now i'm not really enjoying it. first reason is gameplay wise, i think i built my party awfully but i don't know why. for example, i have a fighter and even when she hits a, let's say 16, she does like 3-4 damage and the fights have been extremely boring and long because of this, i'm playing on easy. also, at first i liked how you need to create a full party and give them personalities, but they've been extremely flat and the writing seems very dull. for instance, i'm at the part when you're in that sort of arcane library and need to look for soraks (still haven't found them but i'm pretty close).

can someone please recommend some builds, and please tell me if the story and the writing will get better once i progress more?? thanks in advance!

Solasta 2 on 9070 xt glitching

Hey guys I was wanting to know if anyone else with a 9070 xt or just an amd card is having these similar issues. There's like squares in the skybox that tile across the entire sky and lowering or increasing the resolution either makes more of them or less of them but they're always there.

Custom campaign : a giant problem

I am stuck on the custom campaign A giant problem. On Xbox so cannot use UB mod. I cannot open the door under the wild elk inn. I made sure to read everything even using a potion of comprehend languages. The door below the elk says it cannot be opened . I read toburs ledger and have the key. Brass key kasin Brunn key and wild elk room key. But the door will not open. I have an old notebook but I cannot read it even with the potion and no vendor can do anything with it. I have beat this campaign before but playing with a friend. I had a hiccup in this same spot last time but cannot remember what I did to get past it.
