First documented in 1044, it was mined continuously from the 13th century, ceasing production in 1996. It contains 178 miles of underground passages and chambers including chapels, barracks and sculpture all carved over the centuries in addition to the aspects directly pertaining to mining. Appropriately, the Wieliczka Mine was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978 and hosts ~1.2 million visitors a years to this day. This is an old collection specimen, ex. Lou Conti.
