This has been my dream forever. Finally was able to afford my dream pc after graduating college!

I’m just extremely happy with this and wanted to share it.

Built it last weekend. It’s my first build. I didn’t account for 200mm front fans and 140mm side fans blocking each other, so drilled new holes in frames of 200s and slid them toward glass side a half inch to make it all fit.

I think my consoles may be paperweights now.

Finally built my first PC at 21 😭🫡 What do y’all think and what should i upgrade next. It’s AM4 i know but didn’t want to spend an extra $300 rn

So after being a console only gamer for years I decided to get back into pc building, I know perfect timing right!!.

I wanted to see if I could build something affordable that could play most games with everyone’s leftover PC parts. Between online auctions, Facebook marketplace and a friend sending me his 3080 I had just about everything except for a good case.

Well just so happens I had two of these Mac Pro towers in my office that I planned to use as a base for a coffee table and figured why not complicate my first PC built in over a decade by shoving it all into a case it’s not designed for.

I want to keep this as a sleeper build and not overly modify the outside of the case. So far in taking this apart I’ve developed a deeep Love/hate relationship with the 2009 apple design team. I’m recording the whole process for a YouTube video, but I’ll post updates as I get things fitted and tested.

I was working on this for the last 8 weeks because I wanted to upgrade my 6L PC to be capable of running local AI.
Since I was coming from ITX I had to tinker a bit as I wanted to support dual GPU for the inference and a third GPU for Helper Models like Embedding or similar tasks in my daily work.

Let's start with the Specs.

I had to keep the case as small as possible as this is basically my travel rig. So I have taken the Slim ATX version of the BeamCase and cut out a Slot that I did not need. This allowed me to have the case a total frame height of 330mm. The width is 160mm and the length is 300mm which comes from the minimum inner frame length of 270mm dictated by the 2 RTX 3090, plus 2times 15mm from the frame.

I did not want to use 3d printed ones, so I vibe coded panels as svg for laser cutting acrylic sheet.

For the Mainboard and the SlimSas Backplanes I have modified the new Frame element and added mount points for the backplanes. For the A3000 which is actually a mobile GPU on a pcie card, I created a holder that I can mount behind the PSU.

I operate this case in Thailand and even when its 36 Degrees in my house, I still have plenty of thermal headroom even when I train Loras on both 3090's

Under Heavy load, the 3090s have around 80 degrees Core temp, 100 degrees Junction Temp, the CPU is at 80 degrees under full multi core load and the A3000 is at roughly 90 degrees. This load lasted for several hours during one of my stress tests and it was not going above, so I think this is the thermal fingerprint under heavy load.

All in all I am very happy with the density and the capabilities of running powerful local coding agents with local memory and having the possibility to travel with it.

I have fully finished my PC other than my last part coming in on Thursday, which is the be quiet! light loop 360 AIO cooling. this is my first time doing a PC all by myself and i tried to turn it on real quick and all i got was a quick light flash from the motherboard. I stopped after a few minutes as I figured I did something wrong. My question is, do newer motherboards not even start up if there is not cooling system? I feel pretty positive the rest of my build works, and the GPU even has a red light whenever i unplugged the PSU cord from it (just trying to figure out different things). I guess I’m just trying to understand if that would be my issue, or if I’m missing something. everything is added and all parts are connected well other than that. I tried showing off my power supply and such to give as much info as I could. Help just overall understand would be appreciated, thanks :).

Finally finished this build that took a week and a half. Mostly waiting for parts to finish it completely.

This beautiful piece of machinery is running Steam OS exclusively. I built it mainly because I was upset at what the actual Steam Machine was capable of and the price tag it carried.

This baby can run 1440p high/ultra settings on every game put out so far. It's supplemented with a little help from Geforce Now for the most demanding games that I want to play on my living room tv.
