Dickason Potholes Before & After

These potholes were reported by me recently on the 4000 block of Dickason in the Oak Lawn neighborhood.

The ticket was filed by me through the app on July 2 at 2:18 AM.

I received an email notification that the potholes had been repaired on July 2 at 3:56 PM.

13 1/2 hours, people.

Go outside right now. Find a pothole. Report it. We can heal the city together.

Estimates & Impact

It was a little clunky, but I figured out a way to export all the data from my 311 tickets filed within the last year and change.

According to my count, I have filed 1,779 tickets with the City of Dallas since around April 2025.

These tickets have resulted in total parking ticket revenues of about $20,000 and a total "civic response cost" of about $900,000 (again, I don't have data but I came up with some conservative cost estimates and the model came out somewhere between $500,000 and $1.8 million)

It's impossible to know an exact number without all the appropriate data, but because I have reported so much in the way of:

  1. Potholes

  2. Street repairs needed

  3. Drainage issues

  4. Traffic sign condition issues / damage

  5. Traffic signal problems / damage

  6. Traffic markings issues (faded crosswalks, lanes, etc.)

  7. Construction barrier issues (instruction conflict / knocked over, etc.)

  8. Dead animal pick-up

  9. City park maintenance

  10. Code violations (vegetation obstruction of traffic signs emanating from private property, usually)

And so much more

The city has mobilized around million dollars in resources to remediate these concerns. I can literally point out entire streets that have been redone because of tickets I filed to note the serious condition of the street and there are more on the way (N Henderson & Capitol is falling apart and the city is working to address it this summer, for example). There are new traffic signs in Deep Ellum because of feedback I provided about the safety hazard of through traffic on Floyd St. There are new lane configurations because I pointed out certain intersections had incorrect instructions in the signage. There are some signs I've literally found buried in trees which the city and its people had forgotten about and which are now visible.

Here's what amazes me - I am just one guy. One guy, by filing tickets in a system, was able to get all these resources mobilized. Imagine if everyone in Dallas took time out of their day to report a damaged sidewalk, a faded traffic sign, a traffic signal bulb that is out, a cracking/sinking street, a car blocking the sidewalk, an abandoned vehicle, a damaged rail crossing, a homeless encampment, or any number of other things.

FOLKS - One guy driving around doing Uber on the side was able to passively mobilize a million dollars of resources to make the city where we all live and work better. You can, too.
