Turns out there's a case to be made for Goro.

I've been replaying the first game recently for probably the 5th time, and after 20ish years since first playing the game I finally found something about Goro that redeems his otherwise all-around big suck design.

By big suck design, I mean:

‐ his attack animation/range/speed

- his dorky wannabe superhero kid character model

- his character-specific door mechanism that makes you read the tip every time, because of his shitty attack, even though it's intuitive enough looking that you probably never would've needed a tip to figure it out. You will read tips, FOREVER, and you will LIKE IT.

- de facto tankiest character but he can never hit shit so he spends all his time with high defense being staggered

What could possibly make up for all of these flaws? Well, it turns out his weapons are fucking strong, some might even say "as fuck". Not only that, but their stat caps are comparably also quite fucking high, and their abs requirements remain pretty manageable up to level 5. This means that you can place a fairly strong synth sphere in them temporarily and gain practically all of the benefits without getting capped/maxed out.

Does it still suck to line up the needed 1 or 2 hits with him? Usually, and some enemies are just fucking hopeless (medusas are scary as hell). Do I enjoy his door mechanism now? I could write a strongly worded letter about how I do not, and never will.

Alas, as much as I would rather not play Goro in general, I've started using him selectively with the above in mind, and I'm seeing it ramp my damage output earlier than I experienced in previous playthroughs.

Curious if other people incorporate him like this, or if Toan gets the melee job done for most people like he did for me in the past.

Edit: just to be clear, I don't really mean I'm using Goro as the source that's increasing my DPS. I use him sparingly still. I've just noticed the stats on his weapons combined with how quickly they upgrade makes them great sphere material. Basically, if you use him occasionally to pick up the few kills he is good for, you quickly end up with spheres that make your other characters cracked. He's still not awesome in his own right, but he's worth rotating for that reason.

Dark Cloud 2 PC Port Preview

Given the excitement around the DC1 decomp, I thought it might be time to share a project I've been working on. This is Dark Cloud 2 running natively on Windows. The game is running 2x internal resolution for this video.

It is a decomp-based (not recomp) port of the game. As you can see, there are some defects I hope fix.

I know it's going to be a question and I think it's important to be transparent about this stuff: AI was used, mostly for decomp but in some other areas as well. I'm also a programmer by trade and write my own code so it's not just 100% vibe coded.

I plan to release the source for this in the coming weeks after I've had some time to clean it up and remove anything that might be legally problematic. Obviously there is still a lot of work to be done, but I'm hopeful that with the way the decomps are progressing the project will improve over time.

Future plans include:

  • Support for multiple resolutions
  • Support for unlocked framerate
  • Support for more platforms (android, macos, linux, etc)
  • Classic, Enhanced, and Remastered launch presets
  • Whatever else I come up with

Anyway, hope you all think it's cool at least and sorry for coming out of the blue like this, I wasn't aware of the DC1 decomp until recently and I felt a bit hurried to say something about it rather than keep working in the dark.

Hey y'all, BeeT here! The DC2/Dark Chronicle Vinyl LP's are finally here and shipping out in the next few days! I thought I'd get your opinions for the next project!

A lot of feedback was received on the Discord, with the majority of you asking for a repress of DC1. I would love to hear if this is something you would be interested in. If so it would likely be a very limited run like the DC2 pressing, limited to 50 or maybe 100 depending on your feedback. Let me hear your thoughts! Also there's still a few DC2 LPs available, and 1 test press as well! Shoot me a message if you're interested!

Hey everyone, with the DC2 records shipping out tomorrow, this adventure is coming to a close. With that said I’m excited to finally share what’s next. After receiving overwhelming support and suggestions, the choice was clear... the next pressing will be Dark Cloud 1!

It only feels right to go back to where it all started and bring the original Dark Cloud soundtrack to vinyl (again)! DC1 is very near and dear to my heart, even more so than Dark Cloud 2, believe it or not. This game consumed my childhood (and a decent amount of my adult life as well) in the best way possible, so an extreme amount of love and care will be going into this project!

I also heard the constructive criticism regarding the price of the DC2 pressing. While seeing it funded in less than a minute was incredible, it was disappointing knowing some fans who wanted to be part of the project simply couldn’t justify the cost. Smaller pressings unfortunately mean a higher cost per copy, so this time the goal is to get the price as low as possible, so we’ll need your help spreading the word!

DC2 was limited to just 50 copies and is very close to being sold out with just 2 units left. If we can get enough support behind Dark Cloud 1, the goal is to increase the pressing to 100 copies, bringing the preorder price down from the previous $200 to around $150 or hopefully even lower. The more support we can build, the more affordable we can make this for everyone. If you know another Dark Cloud fan who would love to see the original soundtrack on vinyl, please share the project and help spread the word!

More details on the artwork and preorder date will be shared as things progress, join the Discord on my profile to stay up to date. Thank you again for all the support. I can’t wait to show you what’s planned for Dark Cloud 1!

DC2 Battle Tank Aquarium

According to the Help menu, we can increase fish Strength stat if we place some fishes in the battle tank. I tried it to no avail.

I am afraid that the fish will die if i left them there for a long they will die (one of them died already).

Do the battle will continue even when we are not looking?

How to safely increase strength?

Spheda questions and minor venting

So I've been playing spheda and I hate it, it's so tedious and difficult, the way the ball bounces is so unfair, the gutters are frustrating, and yeah I get more abs, but replaying stages for hours for another chance, is absolutely unbearable, especially when the level layout changes every replay, it's absolutely not fair, so I have questions to reconfirm if their right or not to see if it's worth keep trying to get the citizen requiring 10 spheda games

1: do the 10 only count after talking to her? Because I beat at least 6 spheda levels before talking to her, and having to do it all again on a technicality isn't fair

2: can I replay spheda levels to beat spheda again and that counts? Because even if replaying levels suck I can at least stick to the smaller levels layouts to not have to deal with as many frustrations

And 3: who the heck made this mini game? Satan?

I think I'm just gonna throw in the towel on spheda because it's causing too much stress and it doesnt even feel worth it anymore, but if either of these questions are true I can at least give it another try later and not have to worry about the gigantic levels and gaps that come in the other dungeons

Is there a list anywhere for what monsters appear on what levels & dungeons?

Hi, I’m playing Dark Cloud Enhanced and doing monster hunting missions but I’m finding it difficult to remember what levels what monsters appear on. Is this randomised or is there a guide anywhere that gives what monsters can appear on what floors of each dungeon? Thanks in advance.

Dark Chronicle Monster Notes

Hi everyone, how many pages do the Monster Notes need to have to be complete? Are there any missable monsters besides the Flotsam Balloon? Is the Kotorebus, which spawns from the Trentos, missable? I ask because the Trentos isn't listed in the Monster Notes. Thanks, everyone.
