Hwaro-Won Consistency Check, food the same, service not.

Hi DFC! Ive seen a lot of mixed reviews lately for hwaro-won and I felt bad because I initially gushed over it when it just opened so I think I owed it to you guys to revisit and do a consistency check.

So the banchan is the same, the korean pancakes however were oilier and the kimchi was a bit more fermented. Still love the Scallion Kimchi here.

We ordered the pork skirt and got the beef platter. This time 2 of the meats were marinated. Their marinade tastes the same and the shortrib and short plate just tasted exactly like the same with different texture so the subtle differences in meats were wasted.

This time we opted to cook the meat ourselves and the servers still came by to ask if we wanted to change the grill.

Now we came in just as the restaurant opened so 3 tables lang kami nun and the servers were attentive but as soon as I said “oh service isnt bad man” the restaurant got slammed and was suddenly full. Servers had their hands tied and a lot of items had to be followed up. I could see the other tables be visibly frustrated having to constantly follow up.

I honestly believe that the staff weren’t trained to optimize movements because they looked like chickens with their heads cut off between each table. i dont feel that its understaffed either, dami nila, its just a lot of wasted movement.

We were just about done but I can see why people are frustrated with the restaurant. And thats sad for me, i genuinely still enjoy the food so if you plan to eat here please come just when it opens so you’ll get good service (until the restaurant fills up)

curbside coffee iced spanish latte experience

hi guys! been buying coffee from Curbside for straight 6 days now kay along ra sa akong usual errand route, so every morning before starting my day, coffee sa jud 😂

First few days, I got their iced Spanish latte. The first one I had was super milky, and even if wala nako gi-mix, dili jud siya covered kaayo with coffee. Don’t get me wrong ha, dili ko coffee expert 😭 I actually like it that way, kanang milky and light ra. Pero after 3 days, napansin nako nga mas coffee-like siya. Like if wala nako i-mix, almost brown na jud siya with just a small amount of milk. Then the next day, same gihapon mas coffee-forward siya.

Then today, nibalik na pud siya sa mas milky nga version.
Curious lang ko if mao ba jud ni usually ang Spanish latte nila? or basin depende lang jud sa preparation that day?
Basin naa pud naka-notice ani or frequent Curbside customers diri? 😅

Visiting Davao City for the first time

Hi all! My husband & I are visiting Davao City for the first time together this October for a wedding. We'll be staying nearby Abreeza Mall. What nearby cafès or restaurants would you recommend to us? We have no food restrictions/allergies, and also enjoy good coffee/cocktails. Only staying for 3 days & 2 nights. Thank you!

Hwarowon

When I saw someone posted about this place here, I got excited to try this place out. Finally, a “decent” samgyupsal place - decent meaning somehow similar to what I’ve tried in SoKor.

Giving out 2.5/5 for this place.

I’ll list out my pros and cons for this place.

Pros:

  1. Meats are sold at per plate depending on the type of cut. Wide selection of meats from pork belly, pork jowl, pork skirt, beef, chicken, etc.
  2. They also offer a set plate good for 2-3 persons if you opt out for the ala carte meats.
  3. Price starts at 400+ for their meats. Quite pricey, but still good for the quality of meat they are serving.
  4. Def a plus point for me that the staff cooks grills the meat for me. This ensures that the meat is cooked right, and at the same time we will just enjoy eating.
  5. Staff are friendly and approachable.
  6. They are open until 1AM.

Cons:

  1. Grill was too small. It took awhile to cook for the 4 types of meat we ordered.
  2. Short staffed. We went at around 9pm and I think they didn’t expect for a lot of customers to come in at that time. We had to repeat our additional orders several times before they came in.
  3. Disappointed again with their grill. They placed the steam egg and kimchi on the sides of the grill. Our egg and kimchi got burnt before we could eat them. It was inconvenient to reach out for these side dishes while they were grilling. They could have served the steamed egg in a different pot, and the kimchi on a plate.
  4. Although the side dishes were refillable, there were only minimal selection of side dishes. Wish they had soup as their side dish.
  5. They used AI-generated photos for their menus. As a resto, they should have taken actual photos of their selection as much as possible. The AI-generated photos looked unappetizing.

Would I come here again? Probably, but it would not be somewhere I would crave for. Would I recommend it to a friend? Less likely. Worth the money? Not entirely, had better K-bbq for the same price somewhere else.

This place has potential. I hope they change the grill so that they can cook more meat on the grill at the same time.

For anyone craving homecooked meals on Grab, I can absolutely vouch for this merchant. Dagko ilang serving and init pajud ang food inig abot sa imo. 🫶🏽 One of the best karenderyas and bagay sa mga busy kaayo na wfh peeps opting for pinoy food.

PS. Reco sya pero di man resto pero walay lain choice hehe

Best Oatmeal Cookies in Davao

Hi! I am still on the hunt for the best oatmeal cookies in Davao. The thin, crispy and crunchy kind, and not so overwhelmingly sweet. Recos are much appreciated. Thank you.

Very Underwhelming K Steak Unlimited.

Genuinely impressive how they can overcook pork chop AND Undercook a medium rare steak.

Easily the biggest grey band and blue center Ive seen in Davao and one of the dryest pork chops Ive ever had.

My expectations were low but damn, with the amount this costs you could get better meals and better ambiance at other nearby restaurants.

Genuinely wanted to give this restaurant a shot because I thought “they must be doing something right having been open for this long” but for a restaurant that has steak in their name it seems like they dont know how to cook them at all.

They do provide good value on the other dishes Ive seen on other tables so maybe next time I’ll try it those and see if theyre worth getting.

Dont get me wrong, flavor was good. I really enjoyed the taste of the porkchop, the steak and the steak sauce were really decent. The gravy tasted like flour and stock though.

One thing I’ll give positive points to them though is that they have all prices written out so no big surprises when you order on their “per gram” menu.

Wouldn’t ever eat here again tbh.

Comma Cafe

I’m a big fan of Chagee (unfortunately only available at Manila ATM), but the Teaspresso Milktea at Comma cafe also satisfies me! The flavor na mas more on tea ang flavor 🤤
So far I tried Hokkien Dahongpao Oolong and Dark-Roasted Oolong. For those who have tried, any other flavor recos? Only ordered via Grab, I want to try dining it at their place it looks good based on the pictures.

Lau's Cafe Spaghetti and Meatballs

First pic is from this week, second pic is from February this year.

Disappointed not only with the size of the meatballs but also the sauce, not as rich and herby as before. They increased the price as well, from less than Php 400 (I think 390-395) before to Php 455 (these prices are from their Grab store so I'm not sure if it is the same in-store/dine in) which was honestly not an issue to me but I did not expect the quality to decline.

Takodeal’s OG Takoyaki

First time trying and nagbase ra jud ko purely sa reviews and ratings from Grab and it did not disappoint!! ₱90 for 6 balls. Not greasy. Not harinabols. Sauce is very good! Really, my second best next to Indanganese 🥰

Hands down best price to flavor ratio burger in the City!

Black Burgers (SM Supermarket) 149 for their double cheese burger. Sa mga naga reminisce sa dating space burger, this really hits the spot.

Moro Grounds

May nagsabi lang sa reddit na for Mindanaoan food, i should check out Moro Grounds. Since napanood ko sa The Chui Show yung food sa Zamboanga, curious talaga ako so nagorder ako ng chicken satti and chicken piyanggang.

Both were so good :( Nagpacute din ako sabi ko baka pwede itry yung palapa, binigyan nila ako, from Sulu daw yun. Tapos tuwang tuwa yung nagserve sakin since sarap na sarap ako, binigyan pa niya ako ng isang bowl ng satti sauce, for free :(( 100/10.

Try it out pag asa area kayo - reasonably priced siya!! I posted this because they deserve more lovee!! 🥰

Daghang salamat sa nagrecommend 🫶🫶

Huckleberry's Pulled Pork Nachos

Hello! I recently visited huckleberry to grab a few drinks on a sunday night and I must say im a bit underwhelmed with how the quality of the food changed. Idk if ako lang naka pansin but its not as same as before! Specifically yung nachos nila :( I mean yes, the food is still great esp yung others but yung nachos nila I think changed esp yung cheese sauce and the portion and quality nung meat. Go to talaga namin ang pulled pork nachos nila for our finger food when drinking but over time, nag iiba na yung quality talaga. It does not hit different anymore. I HOPE THEY BRING BACK THE OG VERSION! idc kahit mg price increase but please do not compromise the quality of the food :/

Thoughts on 444 Coffee?

Just passed by it yesterday and got intrigued. Sa Tiktok I only see influencer reviews or photoshoots😆 To those that have tried their drinks, what are your thoughts? Worth it ba?
